Next week, our campus will be buzzing with activity, including the UISZ Boarding Halloween Event and BBQ on Wednesday, the 22nd.

The week culminates in a major highlight: our annual UIS Uni Fair next Friday, the 24th, where we are proud to host nearly 100 universities from over 15 countries around the world. Last year it was hosted here at UISZ, and this year it will be at UISG. It is a week that perfectly captures our community’s spirit, from foundational learning to future planning. We look forward to sharing it with you.

Following our recent MAP assessment analysis, students requiring EAL support began receiving tailored interventions this week, aligned precisely with their individual learning profiles. This targeted approach reflects our ongoing commitment to responsive, inclusive education, and we’ll continue to partner closely with families throughout this journey.

Launch of the Korean Mother Tongue Program

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of our PYP Korean Mother Tongue Program this week! This program celebrates and nurtures students’ home language and cultural identity while supporting cognitive and academic development. Importantly, it is designed as a continuous pathway from Primary through Secondary School, ensuring long-term linguistic and cultural continuity for our Korean-speaking learners.

This policy is essential for student safety, and accurate medical record-keeping; it ensures our nurses can act knowledgeably and responsibly in your child’s best interest.

D12 One-to-One Parent-Teacher Meetings Successfully Held
This week, we organized a series of one-to-one parent-teacher meetings for DSE D12 students who have just completed their first mock examinations. The meetings provided an in-depth analysis of each student’s current academic performance, integrating mock exam results with daily performance to develop personalized improvement plans and university admission guidance for the examination preparation.

本周我们为刚结束DSE一模考试的DSE12年级学生举办了一系列一对一家长会。此次会议深入分析了学生的学习现状，结合一模考试成绩与日常表现，与家长共同制定冲刺阶段的个性化提升方案以及升学建议。

2. Nanyang Technological University Visits Campus, Guiding Students on Their University Journey.
We were truly honored to welcome Mr. Alan Phua, Head of Admissions, and Ms. Ong Hue Sin, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU). They conducted dedicated admission seminars at both our Zengcheng and Guangzhou campuses.
我们非常荣幸地迎来了新加坡南洋理工大学招生办公室主任 Alan Phua 先生和高级助理主任 Ong Hue Sin 女士的到访。他们分别在我们增城校区和广州校区举办了招生说明会。
In the context of university applications—a process that often requires students to travel extensively to meet admission representatives—it was a special privilege to have a world-renowned institution like NTU bring such opportunities directly to our students.

3. D11 Thematic Class Meeting: Fostering a Collaborative Learning Atmosphere and Planning for the Future
To further cultivate a proactive and positive learning environment, D11 recently held a thematic class meeting. The session was thoughtfully structured and engaging: It began with a National Day holiday sharing segment, where students actively used English to narrate their holiday experiences and reflections, effectively enhancing their language expression skills. This was followed by a recognition ceremony honoring students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and achievement in both academic and extracurricular activities since the start of the semester, aiming to set examples and inspire all students to make continuous progress. Finally, the meeting looked ahead, guiding students to discuss strategies for adjusting their learning mindset and developing concrete academic plans for the upcoming stage, thereby equipping them thoroughly for new learning challenges.
D11年级主题班会：共筑积极学风，规划崭新篇章
为营造更加积极向上的学习氛围，D11年级于近日成功举办了一场主题班会。班会内容充实，环环相扣：首先，在“国庆假期分享”环节，同学们踊跃使用英语，生动讲述了假期中的见闻与感悟，有效锻炼了语言表达能力。随后，会议对开学以来在学业和各类活动中表现出色的同学进行了集中表彰，旨在树立榜样，激励全体同学共同进步。最后，班会着眼于未来，引导学生就下一阶段的学习状态调整与学业规划进行了深入探讨，为他们迎接新的学习挑战做好了充分准备。
4. D10 Table Tennis Fun Activity
Under the theme “Joyful Ping Pong, Bringing Us Together,” this activity was designed to help students effectively alleviate academic stress and enrich their extracurricular life through engaging and enjoyable sports. Amidst both lively competitions and friendly interactions, participants not only enhanced their physical fitness and sports skills but also significantly strengthened friendships and a spirit of teamwork among classmates. The event embodied and promoted the sportsmanship ethos of “Friendship first, competition second.”
D10班乒乓球趣味活动

Halloween Event Arrangements
关于万圣节活动安排的通知
In celebration of the upcoming Halloween, the school will be organizing themed activities to provide students with a fun and engaging holiday experience. The event is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, October 22, 2024.
The traditional “Trick-or-Treat” activity will be held as the main event, with the designated area specially decorated to enhance the festive atmosphere. Students are encouraged to dress up in costumes and join in the authentic Halloween fun. Additionally, a variety of Halloween-themed games and hands-on craft stations will be set up in the Secondary Building, offering diverse ways for students with different interests to participate.
Please note that specific timing and detailed arrangements are still being finalized. The confirmed schedule will be communicated in a follow-up official announcement. We encourage all students to stay tuned for further updates.

Reminder on Midterm Exam Preparations for Grades D10–D11
关于D10-D11年级期中考试准备工作的提醒
With the midterm examinations approaching, the grade-level team has begun organizing exam-related arrangements and academic support to help D10 and D11 students prepare in a systematic and effective manner.
Preparation Support: Students are advised to pay close attention to the review outlines and study guidelines provided by subject teachers, and to plan their personal revision schedule accordingly. We encourage everyone to proactively seek help from teachers to clarify doubts and address areas that need improvement.
Exam Information: The detailed exam timetable, venue arrangements, and code of conduct will be announced in the near future.
Words of Encouragement: We hope all students approach the exams with a positive and honest attitude, manage their time effectively, and maintain a balanced mindset to perform to the best of their abilities.

PD Days
IB Secondary staff spent time last Thursday and Friday taking part in Professional Development Days. The PD included our staff collaborating with UISG Secondary staff on Thursday. Separate from this, some of our DP teachers were able to attend an IB-run Extended Essay workshop over those 2 days. No matter which workshops we attended, the learning and meaningful conversations that occurred over these two days were enriching and for the benefit of our learners.
上周四与周五，IB中学部全体老师参与了专业发展培训学习。周四的学习包含与UISG中学部教师的协同教研。与此同时，部分DP老师在这两天中还参加了由IB官方组织的拓展论文专题研讨会。无论是哪一场工作坊，这两天开展的深度学习与富有意义的交流都令我们获益匪浅，最终将惠及全体同学。
University Presentation
On Tuesday, Year 10-12 students attended a presentation from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. It was a great chance to hear about what NTU offers, insights into the application process, and information about student life. Thank you to the Director of College Counselling, Ms Yein, for organising this for us.
本周二，十至十二年级的同学们参加了新加坡南洋理工大学举办的招生说明会。同学们借此良机深入了解了南洋理工的课程设置、申请流程关键信息以及校园生活实况。在此特别向升学辅导员 Yein 老师为此次活动所作的周密安排。
Volleyball 排球赛事
On Thursday, our players participated in the ACAMIS Yellow Division HS Volleyball tournament. It was great to see so many students involved. The boys’ team won their game 2:1, which was a great result. The girls’ team played a good game throughout although they ultimately lost 2:0.
在周四，我们的球员们参加了 ACAMIS 黄组的高中排球锦标赛。看到同学们踊跃参加，真令人心情振奋！男子队以 2 : 1 的出色比分赢得了比赛，女子队虽以 0 ：2 告负，但是她们全程展现出精湛的竞技风采，成就了一场精彩的比赛。
Looking ahead
Next Friday, we have a trip to UISG for Years 9-12 to take advantage of early access to the UIS University Fair. Organised by Ms Yein, there will be over 90 universities attending and it is therefore a great opportunity for our students.
下周五，我校九至十二年级学生将前往UISG参加大学展会提前场活动。这次由 Yein 老师组织的展会将汇聚逾90所高校，为我们的同学们提供了难能可贵的升学咨询机会。
