‘Art’ has been one of the areas in which Utahloy International School has been nurtured since 1998.
Utahloy Education Foundation provides a range of art courses and art resources to all of our art students.
The results of UIS art students are exceptional, such as our 2022 graduate Max, who has being accepted by one of the top art schools in the world.

[Known to Unknown]
29 * 29 cm
Acrylic Makers and Prizma Color on Canvas.
The idea is inspired by the transmitting knowledge. When knowledge exchanges, it develops with individual understanding. Technically, they are drawn respectively on my back without me knowing the subject, I copy the strokes from my back to the canvas. I start with acrylic markers which represent the transition of knowledge; then I used colored pencils to add volume which represent the process of developing my understanding. The blank spaces left are areas of knowledge I feel uncharted.
[Sensing Celestiality]
14 * 21 cm
Metallic Pen and Prizma Color on Paper.
In this work, I’m reembracing the cosmic energy and sensing the celestial feeling using non-representational shapes. The power of philosophical knowledge of nature provided me creative forces. This work has a smooth surface using colored pencils, but the two-dimensional surface also presents the illusion of big space. The small work is inviting us with close inspection into the celestial sensations.

Hello, Max. Congratulations for the lovely show. I like the show very much and I can see you have done really hard work here.
What is your Theme?
Max：So my theme is seeing the unseen,
which means I’m trying to substantialize and present the unknown and the unseen part of issues of our lives.
你好，Max。恭喜你的艺术展览成功举办。我非常欣赏你的艺术作品而且我从中看出您付出了很多努力。
请问你这次艺术展的主题是什么？
Max：我的艺术展的主题是——探索你所看不到的事物。
这个主题的意思是我想去实体化并且展示那些，在我们生活中肉眼看不见和不为人所知的事物。

How did you start your journey of art?
Max：I think it all started with my curiosity and my quest of this world. Sometimes I would wonder things that why would work like this and how about the other ways.
So I will start thinking about those things we don’t actually pay attention to.
你的艺术之旅是从何源起的？
Max：我觉得这一切都从我对这个世界充满好奇和探索开始的。
我有时会好奇世间的事物为什么会以这样的形式运作，同时也会探索事物其他不同发展的方式。所以我就会开始深思那些通常不为人所在意的事物。

What inspires you in your art journey?
Max：For the inspiration part, I would say movie is a big part of my inspiration as I think movies are the experiences of people’s life and I get to know them.
那么何为你的艺术灵感呢？
Max：对于我的艺术灵感来说, 电影一直以来是我的灵感源泉。
因为我认为, 电影其实是人们生活的缩影。我能从中看到很多特别的东西。

How is your initial stage?
Max：I think my first few works are quite limited in terms of the techniques and the concepts.
Because I haven’t get the chance to develop my versatility or the competency of the techniques. And I haven’t get the chance to explore about the metaphysical thinkings. So that’s why I feel it’s quite limited in multiple ways.
你艺术发展的初期阶段是怎样的？
Max：我觉得我初期阶段的艺术作品在手法和理念上有局限性。
因为那个时候，我的多样性以及我的技术还有待提高。并且我那个时候还未完全掌握形而上学的思考能力。
这也就是为什么我觉得当时我在很多方面都会有多多少少的局限性。

How do you think of 2D Art work and 3D？
Max：Of course, 2D and 3D they are very different in terms of the materials.
So that’s the first part I have started my journey with. So I start doing experimentations. I will start exploring techniques and materials in various different ways. One experiment I did is a decalcomania technique.
For example，I did that on different surfaces on papers，and they all provide me a further understanding of the material itself and the techniques.
你觉得二维艺术和三维艺术怎么样？
Max：当然二维艺术和三维艺术，在材料上会有很大的区别。
因此，我第一步入手的角度就是开始做各种的实验，开始以不同的形式，探索不同的材料和技艺。
举个例子，其中一个实验就是贴花技术的应用，当时我在研究纸材料的不同层面，这些让我进一步的认识了材料本身，以及艺术工艺的方方面面。

What have you achieved in your Art Journey?
Max：I’ve developed more confidence in terms of the techniques. Because I’ve explored so many things that I reached to a point I feel like I could just work without worrying or concerning.
And under this condition or situation，I could provide more creative ideas and maybe new philosophy or new thinking，which will enhance the conceptualities of my works.
So these are non representational shapes all came from the subconscious I would say.
你在艺术旅程中有什么收获？
Max：我觉得我在不断地提高艺术工艺上的自信心。
因为我探索很多丰富的事物，以至于我能够达到一种境界，我可以摆脱技术的束缚，从而游刃有余。
在此时此刻的阶段，使我的创意甚至于我的艺术新哲理和新思维能够自由地涌现出来。
这能够让我的艺术作品具有更深刻的理念。
这些多种多样的作品都是从我的潜意识的灵感中创作出来的。

What do you want to say to our younger students?
Max：So the spontaneity of working has pushed me or like helped me in various ways so that I could produce a shape that I feel it’s aesthetic.
I think visual art course is a very inspirational and mind changing course. It it’s very powerful, it’s a literary device, it’s a language.
It helps you to express yourselves in various forms , various materials and colors，shapes，stories. So I think that’s the fascinating part that I would introduce to all of my friends.
你对我们的学弟学妹们有什么寄语？
Max：这样自由自主的创作模式, 能够让我在各种不同的方式下所创作独特的作品, 具有更多的丰富美学观感。
我觉得视觉艺术课程是一个非常能够让人创意迸发和思维变化的课程。
它也具有无穷的力量， 它是艺术手法，它也是一门独特的语言，帮助你通过不同的形式、材料颜色、形状来讲述故事和表达自我。
所以我认为这就是艺术课程最吸引人之处。
这些也是我想和我的师弟师妹们分享的。

What is your next step in your Art Journey？
Max：I will be attending Pratt Institute in New York city.
你艺术之旅的下一站是？
Max：我将会就读于美国纽约的普瑞特艺术学院。
UIVERSITY APPLICATION
艺术之旅
When？
我是从10年级后的暑假开始准备作品集等升学材料。其中包括了作品集，个人陈述，以及参与了一些活动提升背景。
What?
在准备这些材料的时候有特别考虑近年的申请情况和考官的偏好。当时有去参考众多油管博主的作品集，学习优秀的学生，也有找老师辅导。所以作品在很针对专业的同时也展现出了一定的技术多样性。文书的话是按照升学网站（Common App）的引导题写的。
我有积极的参与体育项目，组织学校的大型活动，也有自发组织“艺术班”。因为这两年考官对学术成绩看的没以往重，所以我想向考官展示一个“全面学生”的形象，让自己在众多大神中脱颖而出。
How？
对于艺术大学的申请最主要的还是递交一份新颖的作品集。
作品集是有页数限制的。怎么样在有限的空间展现出自己全面且扎实的技术，视觉效果好且原创的作品是考生需要特别思考的部分。
