Tara O’Brien
I’m originally from a small town outside of San Francisco and have worked in international education for the past 15 years. I’ve taught and served in administrative positions at international schools in Budapest (Hungary), Doha (Qatar), and Lausanne (Switzerland). My teaching and administrative experience is in Early Childhood and Primary education and I greatly enjoy curriculum development and PD design.

I am passionate about all things education and am constantly on the lookout for programs to expand my knowledge-base. After giving birth to our second child, Amelie, I began my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on school leadership. I find it rewarding to take intentional steps towards achieving a long-term goal.

Rosie Dong
Ever since I could remember, I loved learning new things and explore different languages and cultures. I want myself to be a world-oriented, international person with a broad mind and vision. This drove me to decide to study abroad when I was young. I spent my high school and college years in Australia and graduated in education studies. After graduation, I hope to bring back the knowledge and experience I have learned during my oversea studying, and deliver and share it to the people around me, especially to children.
从我能够记事起，我就十分热爱学习新事物，接触不同的语言和文化。我希望自己是一个面向世界的，国际化的，有开阔思想和眼界的人。这驱使我在年少的年龄就毅然决定到国外留学。我在澳大利亚度过了我的高中以及大学时光，并毕业于教育学专业。毕业后的我希望将留学期间学到的知识和积累的经历经验带回国内，传递和分享给更多的人，尤其是向小朋友们。
I believe that every child is a unique and independent individual. When looking at children, I do not only see them as children and students, but regard each child as a whole person.

As an educator, I think that every child is full of potential, and they can do more and achieve more amazing things than we think, so I am keen to help the children develop in an all-rounded way.

Valentina He
I have been teaching at UISZ for the past 2 years, leading Year 5 students through their exhibition year and really gaining a deeper understanding of the full IB PYP programme. I am excited to be continuing at UISZ, now having the chance to join students at the beginning of their PYP journey in Early Years!

I was able to begin teaching in the Philippines starting from the age of 19, while completing my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Adventist University of the Philippines. I specialized in Biology, teaching sciences at the high school level and also to adult learners. Over the past 25 years I have had varied experiences and done a variety of roles in education.

It was in 2004 that my career took a shift and I began teaching English as an additional language to learners from kindergarten to adult age. It was in Beijing that I discovered a passion for Early Years education, gaining expertise in student centered Montessori and now IB learning pedagogy. I have 12 years of experience with early learners and am really looking forward to getting back into the excitement and adventure of K1 and K2!

I have been a dedicated educator with 18 years of experience, and I have taught in China and UK the subjects of Music, ESOL, Mandarin, English, Math, History and Science. I hold a Bachelor of Education Degree from Zhanjiang Normal University.

I very much enjoy working at the international school because of the different cultures, customs, and relationships I’ve made. This is going to be my 15th year of teaching in UISZC as a PYP teacher and my 3rd year as a Year two homeroom teacher. I am keen to share with you my knowledge and experience with PYP teaching and learning along with my cultural understanding of our school, our community, and the beautiful country in which we live: China.

My husband is from the United States, and normally we travel to the US to visit family every year during the holiday. Zengcheng is our home, and we enjoy spending time touring the mountains surrounding Zengcheng. It’s wonderful to be a part of the big UISZC family.

Karen Castro
My name is Karen Castro. Born and raised in Guatemala City. I have been teaching for over 10 years and absolutely love it!

I began teaching in Guatemala, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education – Learning Disabilities from Universidad del Valle.

As we teachers are lifelong learners, I decided to continue studying different certificates, including the IB PYP certificate, and the Early Years Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Currently, I’m studying for an M.Ed. in Technology Applied to Education from the Universidad de la Rioja.

Elizabeth Mulvey
My name is Elizabeth and I am originally from Ireland. I have been working internationally for eighteen years in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Brazil.

I have a B.A. in English and Music, a Higher Diploma in Music Technology and a PGCE in Primary Education. We have worked in American curriculum schools with common core and AERO and IB schools in Saudi Arabia and Oman. I have taught first grade, second grade, third grade and been a Music teacher for kindergarten to seventh grade. My passion is in inquiry based learning so I am looking forward to getting back to an IB school.

Koen Vanhoutte
After a long stint, growing up in Belgium, I lived in Budapest, Doha and Lausanne. Now I am excited to stray further afield and make Zengcheng my home, joining the Year 5 students at UISZ on their learning journey.

I have been an educator for a decade and a half. I taught a wide range of age groups, in three different international schools and one university in three different countries. I have fulfilled many teaching roles during this time, ranging from substitute teacher and teaching assistant to course developer and one-on-one special educational needs teacher. In recent years I have come into my own as a committed PYP Primary Homeroom teacher, first in early years at GEMS in Switzerland and then in upper primary at the International School of Lausanne.

I also enjoy cooking and eating, learning about food, and taking a stroll with a good podcast in my ears.

Patrick Callaghan
I am Patrick Callaghan from California in the USA. I have a bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Azusa Pacific University. I have been teaching, coaching, and fitness training student athletes and the general population for over 20 years in the US and Internationally, working locally in my home state of CA and Internationally in New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and China. I will be teaching P.E. and English at the primary level here at UISZ.

Stefania Porumb
Ms. Stefania has a BA in Musicology and a Music Teacher Training from the Romanian University of Arts “George Enescu” where she graduated in 2011. Ever since she has been involved in several Educational projects in different European and Asian international schools. She has been teaching Music full time in Kuwait, Romania, UAE and China, and part-time, together with full time pastoral care responsibilities, in Italy and Czech Republic. Her extensive work with children is also rooted in her previous training as a Kindergarten and Primary School Teacher when she had the opportunity to practice with different age groups in different schools. This experience allowed her over time to develop appropriate Music programs progressively to suite not only different ages but also different interests. They include singing with movement, group or individual instruments, Music and Science, building musical instruments, Summer Music Camps etc.
