A Time for Celebration and Reflection
As we approach our much-anticipated Family Day on March 1 at UISG, we find ourselves in a moment of celebration and reflection. This special day provides an opportunity for families from both schools to unite and celebrate our vibrant community. Through various physical activities and cooperative games, families will engage with one another, fostering connections and reinforcing the sense of belonging that is at the heart of our community. We hope all families are able to join us for this event!
In addition to the festivities, our students are currently engaged in important academic assessments, including Mock exams, which are crucial in checking their understanding and readiness for upcoming challenges. This reflective period allows them to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, while also preparing for future success. The collaborative spirit of our community is further enhanced as different divisions immerse themselves in their culminating projects, showcasing the diverse talents and hard work of our students.
This week marked a significant milestone for our Year 10 students, who shared their IB Personal Projects. These projects are a vital component of the International Baccalaureate program, allowing students to explore their interests and passions while developing their ATLs, such as research, critical thinking, and communication. The sharing of these projects highlight their personal passions, creativity, and dedication of our students, and allows them to celebrate their achievements with their peers and community.

Learning through Forest School
We are thrilled to share the wonderful experiences our primary school students have had recently as part of our Forest School program! Students have been actively engaging with nature, exploring their surroundings, and making meaningful connections to their learning.
K3Y1’s Forest school unit tied to How the World works was a successful start of UISZ Forest School program. Their unit was eight weeks long and they started in the old campus, then our Deep Roots base once it was open. During this unit, the students collected various natural materials, observed the living things around them, and reflected on how these experiences based on their unit about how living things adapt to the environment to meet their needs. This hands-on approach has not only fostered a deeper understanding of the unit but has also inspired creativity and teamwork among students as they collaborate.
Exploring the Wonders of Plants!
Our adventurous students set out on a thrilling journey to discover the amazing parts of plants! Armed with cameras, they ventured into our forest school, excited to identify and snap photos of leaves, roots, seeds, stems, fruits, and flowers. As they explored, they learned about how to grow these incredible plants. The excitement continued as they picked the perfect sunny spot to prepare the soil for planting seeds.This adventure ties into our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) on Food Production, where we explore how food impacts people and the environment. One of our key lines of inquiry is all about how food is cultivated, processed, and distributed. Our students are not just learning; they are becoming young environmentalists and food enthusiasts! Let the planting begin!

MYP
The Year 10 students at UISZC are currently immersed in intensive preparations for their upcoming math e-assessments, which are scheduled to take place next week. Alongside this, they are also gearing up for their exhibition work, which will be showcased in the same week. These dual priorities are keeping them busy as they balance rigorous academic preparation with creative and collaborative projects. The e-assessments will test their understanding of key mathematical concepts, while the exhibition provides an opportunity to apply their learning in innovative and practical ways.
Meanwhile, the Year 7 students have been introduced to project design concepts in math, with a focus on real-world applications. They are currently engaged in designing a sustainable metro/subway line, integrating geometry and measurement principles to address practical challenges. This project not only enhances their understanding of mathematical concepts but also encourages them to think critically about sustainability and urban planning. In addition, Year 8 and 9 students are honing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills through an engaging “escape room” activity. By solving a series of math puzzles—ranging from algebraic equations to geometry challenges—they work collaboratively to uncover clues and ultimately “escape.” This activity fosters teamwork, communication, and a competitive spirit, making learning both fun and impactful.

Students of DP Korean Language and literature have transitioned to the Ancient Greek period after delving into Trevor Noah’s memoir “Born a Crime” and Ye Rong’s webtoon “A Black Man Sits Next to Me on the Subway,” both of which address themes of interracial conflict, discrimination, and stereotypes.
The conflict between loyalty to family and loyalty to the country? Justice versus divine law? Gender inequalities? Hubris and its consequences? ‘Antigone’ has it all, and more. We began this unit by laying a foundation in Greek theater, exploring its dramatic conventions and the historical, political, and religious significance of theater in ancient Greek life. This groundwork allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of Greek theater before we engaged with the text. The students read this ancient Greek tragedy with enthusiasm and discovered how profoundly it resonates with our modern world.
HKDSE
This week, our DSE Year 12 students participated in the Mock Exam, which is a key milestone in their preparation for the HKDSE exams. I am pleased to report that all students took the exam very seriously, showing a great deal of dedication and commitment. This Mock Exam is an important opportunity for them to familiarize themselves with the exam format, refine their exam strategies, and identify areas for improvement. The seriousness with which they approached this exam is a positive sign of their readiness and determination.
In addition to the Mock Exam, the students received their HKDSE Admission Forms this week. This marks another important step toward their official exam in April. The Admission Form contains critical details for their participation in the HKDSE exams held in Hong Kong, and students will need to ensure they have completed all the necessary preparations in the coming weeks. I encourage you to remind your child to check the details carefully and ensure they are fully prepared for this important milestone.
For our DSE Year 11 students, the focus this week has been on preparing for their upcoming Mid-Term Exam. The students are currently engaged in focused revision sessions, working diligently to consolidate their knowledge and skills in preparation for the exam. This period of revision is crucial as it will help them strengthen their understanding of the key concepts and identify areas that may require additional attention. Teachers are providing regular support and guidance to ensure the students are confident and well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
As we move forward into the second term, we will continue to support both Year 1 and Year 2 students as they work towards their academic goals. Your continued involvement and encouragement are invaluable during this critical time. Please remind your child of the importance of maintaining a consistent study routine, staying organized, and reaching out for help when needed.

非常高兴与大家分享小学部的同学们最近在森林学校项目中获得的美好体验！他们积极地与大自然接触，探索周围的环境，并将这些经历与学习有意义地联系起来。
幼儿园大班和一年级的森林学校单元与 “世界是如何运转的”联系在一起，这是UISZ森林学校项目的一个成功开端。这个单元为期八周，他们先从旧校区开始，然后是新校区的森林学校营地Deep Roots（营地开放后）。在这一单元中，同学们收集各种自然材料，观察周围的生物，并根据这些经验反思了生物是如何适应环境以满足自身需求的。这种动手实践的方法不仅加深了同学们对单元的理解，还在同学们合作时激发了他们的创造力和团队合作精神。

忠于家庭与忠于国家之间的冲突？正义与天赐法权的冲突？性别不平等？傲慢及其后果？《Antigone》这本书不仅一应俱全，甚至不止于此。这个单元，我们以打好学习希腊戏剧的基础来开始，探索了希腊戏剧的惯例和戏剧在古希腊生活中的历史、政治及宗教意义。这些基础知识让同学们在阅读文本之前对希腊戏剧就有了更深入的了解。同学们带着满腔热情拜读了这部古希腊悲剧，还发现了这部悲剧竟与我们这现代世界深深共鸣。
香港中学文凭课程
这周，DSE二年级的同学们参加了模拟考试，这是他们为准备香港中学文凭考试（HKDSE）的一个重要阶段。很高兴地告诉大家，所有同学都非常认真地面对考试，表现出了高度的投入和决心。这次模拟考试对他们来说是一次宝贵的机会，可以熟悉考试格式、优化考试策略并找出需要改进的地方。学生们认真对待这次考试，充分呈现了他们的准备情况和决心。
除了模拟考试，同学们这周还收到了HKDSE 准考证，这是他们为4月正式考试做好准备的又一重要步骤。入场通知书上包含了参加在香港举行的HKDSE考试的重要信息，他们需要在接下来的几周内确保已完成所有必要的准备工作。我鼓励您提醒您的孩子仔细检查入场通知书的细节，并确保他们为这一重要时刻做好充分准备。

세상이 어떻게 작동하는가와 연계된 K3Y1의 포레스트 스쿨 단원은 UISZ 포레스트 스쿨 프로그램의 성공적인 시작이었습니다. 이 단원은 8주 동안 진행되었으며 이전 캠퍼스에서 시작하여 딥 루츠 베이스가 오픈한 후 그곳에서 진행되었습니다. 이 단원 동안 학생들은 다양한 자연물을 수집하고 주변의 생물을 관찰하며 생물이 필요에 따라 환경에 적응하는 방법에 대한 단원을 바탕으로 이러한 경험이 어떻게 작용하는지에 대해 생각해 보았습니다. 이러한 실습 방식은 단원을 더 깊이 이해하게 했을 뿐만 아니라 학생들이 협업하면서 창의력과 팀워크를 키우는 데도 도움이 되었습니다.

이번 주에 DSE 12학년 학생들은 HKDSE 시험 준비의 중요한 단계인 모의 시험에 참여했습니다. 모든 학생들이 매우 진지하게 시험을 치렀고, 많은 헌신과 노력을 보여주어 기쁘게 생각합니다. 이번 모의 시험은 시험 형식에 익숙해지고, 시험 전략을 다듬고, 개선할 부분을 파악할 수 있는 중요한 기회였습니다. 학생들이 진지하게 시험에 임했다는 것은 준비 상태와 결단력을 보여주는 긍정적인 신호입니다.
모의고사와 더불어 학생들은 이번 주에 홍콩학력고사 응시원서를 받았습니다. 이는 4월에 있을 공식 시험을 향한 또 하나의 중요한 단계입니다. 응시원서에는 홍콩에서 개최되는 HKDSE 시험에 참가하기 위한 중요한 세부 사항이 포함되어 있으며, 학생들은 앞으로 몇 주 안에 필요한 모든 준비를 완료해야 합니다. 자녀가 세부 사항을 꼼꼼히 확인하고 이 중요한 시기를 완벽하게 준비할 수 있도록 독려해 주시기 바랍니다.
DSE 11학년 학생들은 이번 주에 다가오는 중간고사를 준비하는 데 중점을 두고 있습니다. 학생들은 현재 집중 복습 세션에 참여하며 시험 준비를 위한 지식과 기술을 통합하기 위해 열심히 노력하고 있습니다. 이 복습 기간은 핵심 개념에 대한 이해를 강화하고 추가적인 주의가 필요할 수 있는 부분을 파악하는 데 도움이 되므로 매우 중요합니다. 교사들은 학생들이 자신감을 갖고 앞으로의 도전에 잘 대비할 수 있도록 정기적인 지원과 지도를 제공하고 있습니다.
