INTRO
Dear Parents and Students,
We hope everyone is having a fantastic start to the final academic term of the year! Students across both divisions are actively inquiring, drawing conclusions, and reflecting on their learning through many meaningful experiences.
As we transition into Spring, a season often marked by change, it’s important to reflect on personal well-being and stress relief. Recognizing the signs of stress and monitoring behaviors can greatly assist students in navigating this exciting yet sometimes stressful period. We encourage all students to ensure they are getting adequate rest, eating healthy foods, and making wise choices regarding screen time. These practices will enhance their learning experiences and help them manage challenges.
This week, we held parent coffees for both Primary and Secondary families, where we discussed class arrangements, areas for school development and improvement, ECA offerings, and collected valuable feedback on our programs.
We are excited to invite our entire parent community to our All Parent Meeting on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. We look forward to hearing from Ms. Dorothy Wong during this meeting, which promises to be both informative and engaging.

PYP
Book week brought a lot of excitement to Primary last week, with theme days including “pajama day” and “dress-up as your favorite character!”
Every morning during recess, Primary students were welcome to join an illustrator’s club in the primary library and learn how to draw in the style of the famous children’s author and illustrator, Mo Williams. Lots of students visited the book fair and selected new books as well!
On Thursday, for our “meet the author” event, students in each class had an online meeting with Dawn Doig, a published children’s fiction author from Canada. Dawn read two of her books to primary students and students interviewed her, asking thoughtful questions.
PYP
In other exciting news, the K-Y3 primary classes are continuing their forest school integrated PYP units. K-K2 visited Deep Roots last Wednesday for a mindfulness and fine motor learning experience as part of their yearlong unit following the theme, Who We Are. Early years students learned how to “yarn wrap,” a skill that requires patience, maintaining attention, coordination, and strengthens the muscles of the hands and fingers. Early years students were so proud of their creative artworks!
Primary looks forward to celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday morning, April 22nd at Deep Roots. Students will share about projects and student action from their forest school integrated units, Y5 students will share updates on the PYPx to primary classes, and students will participate in learning opportunities, design challenges, and creative activities with their House Teams.
April 21st-May 2nd K3-Y5 primary students will take the MAP Growth assessment. The purpose of this standardized test is to learn about your child’s academic progress, monitor their achievement and growth, and plan appropriate next steps. There is nothing that you child needs to prepare for this assessment. However, we recommend that your child continues to have a good night’s sleep, balanced diet, and exercise. Assessment results via the parent report will be shared with primary families when testing is completed. May 5th-23rd Y1-Y5 English language learners in years 1-5 who have scored below a composite score of 5 will take the WIDA assessment. The WIDA assessment measures English language development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The purpose of this assessment is to monitor your child’s progress and achievement in English and continue to provide individualized support via our student support services. WIDA assessment results will also be shared with families when testing is completed. Teachers will contact families if there is a concern regarding assessment results to schedule a follow-up meeting. Alternatively, if you have any questions about MAP or WIDA testing, or would like to schedule a meeting to interpret results, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher via email.
MYP
The Y10 Chinese Language Acquisition class is working on the Global Context e-Assessment unit: Scientific and Technological Innovation. Throughout this unit, students explore the natural world and its laws; the interaction between people and the natural world; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on communities and environment; the impact of environment on human activities; how humans adapt environment to their needs. In the e-Assessment propositioned by the IB, the language acquisition subjects are assessed in two ways: internal assessment and external assessment. The internal assessment is an oral task that requires students to make an individual presentation in response to a stimulus, before engaging in a one-to-one discussion with the teacher on the topic of the stimulus. The external assessment is an on-screen examination containing three tasks: reading, listening and writing. All students in Y10 Chinese Acquisition class have completed their oral task with good quality before the spring break and are now working on preparing for the on-screen exam in May.
DP
DP1 students are finishing their first year of the Diploma Programme. They are consolidating their learning and preparing to begin their Internal Assessment (IA) projects, which play a significant role in their final evaluations.
DP2 students have completed all the required topics for their subjects and are now using class time to prepare for their final IB exams through past paper practice. As they approach graduation, they are also getting ready to transition into adult life and take the next steps toward university and their future careers.
HKDSE
HKDSE Y11 Chemistry students focused their study on the energy and its interconversions. They learnt how to explain energy changes in chemical reactions in terms of the concept of conservation of energy and diagrammatically the nature of exothermic and endothermic reactions in terms of enthalpy change. Students also carried out experimental determination of enthalpy changes using simple calorimetric methods.

国际文凭小学课程
周的读书周给小学部带来了很多惊喜，主题日包括“睡衣日”和“装扮成你最喜欢的角色”！
每天早上的课间休息时间，小学部的学生们都可以加入位于小学图书馆的插画俱乐部，学习著名儿童作家兼插画家莫·威廉斯（Mo Williams）的绘画风格。许多学生还参观了书展，并挑选了新的书籍！
周四，在我们的 “作家见面会 ”活动中，每个班级的学生都与来自加拿大的儿童小说作家Dawn Doig进行了在线交流。Dawn女士给小学生们朗读了她的两本书，学生们对她进行了采访，并提出了一些有启发性的问题。

国际文凭中学课程
十年级中文习得课程正在进行全球背景电子评估单元：科学与技术创新。在这一单元中，学生们探索自然世界及其规律；人与自然世界的互动；人类如何运用对科学原理的理解；科学技术进步对社区和环境的影响；环境对人类活动的影响；人类如何根据自身需求改造环境。
在国际文凭组织提出的电子评估中，语言习得科目通过两种方式进行评估：内部评估和外部评估。内部评估是一项口头任务，要求学生根据某个刺激物进行个人演讲，然后与教师就刺激物的主题进行一对一的讨论。外部评估是一项在线考试，包含三项任务：阅读、听力和写作。所有十年级中文习得班的学生都在春假前高质量地完成了他们的口头任务，目前正在准备五月份的在线考试。
国际文凭大学预科课程
DP一年级的同学们即将完成他们预科课程的第一年。他们正在着力于巩固自己的学习成果，同时为内部评估（IA）做准备， 这项评估将在他们的最终评估中扮演至关重要的角色。
DP二年级的同学们已经完成各科的必修课题，并且正在运用课堂时间通过练习真题为IB大考做准备。毕业临近，他们也准备好过渡到成年生活，迈步走向自己的大学生涯和未来的职业生涯。
香港中学文凭课程
这周，我们香港中学文凭十一年级化学选修班的同学们把学习重点放在了“能量及其相互转化”。他们探讨了运用能量守恒的概念来解释化学反应中的能量变化，并且运用图表及焓变的概念来解释“放热反应”和“吸热反应”的本质。不仅如此，同学们还学习了如何使用简单量热法来测量焓变。

지난주에는 “파자마 데이”와 “좋아하는 캐릭터로 분장하기!” 등의 테마 데이를 통해 초등학교에 책 주간이 시작되어 많은 흥미를 불러일으켰습니다.
매일 아침 쉬는 시간에 초등학교 학생들은 초등학교 도서관에서 일러스트레이터 클럽에 참여하여 유명한 아동 작가이자 일러스트레이터인 모 윌리엄스의 스타일로 그림을 그리는 방법을 배울 수 있었습니다. 많은 학생들이 도서전을 방문하여 새로운 책을 고르기도 했습니다! 지난주 도서 주간에는 “파자마 데이”와 “좋아하는 캐릭터로 분장하기!”와 같은 테마의 날로 초등학교에 활기를 불어넣어 주었습니다.
목요일에는 ‘작가와의 만남’ 행사를 위해 각 학급의 학생들이 캐나다의 아동 소설 작가인 던 도그와 온라인 만남을 가졌습니다. Dawn 씨는 초등학생들에게 자신의 책 두 권을 읽어 주었고, 학생들은 깊이 있는 질문을 던지며 그녀와 대화했습니다.

또 다른 흥미로운 소식으로, K-Y3 초등반은 포레스트 스쿨 통합 PYP 단원을 계속 진행하고 있습니다. K-K2는 지난 수요일 ‘우리는 누구인가’라는 주제에 따른 연중 단원의 일환으로 마음 챙김과 소근육 학습 경험을 위해 Deep Roots를 방문했습니다. 유치원 학생들은 인내심과 주의력, 협응력이 필요하고 손과 손가락의 근육을 강화하는 ‘털실 감기’ 기술을 배웠습니다. 유치원 학생들은 자신들의 창의적인 작품을 자랑스러워했습니다!

홍콩 중등교육과정 프로그램
HKDSE Y11 화학 학생들은 에너지와 그 상호 변환에 대해 집중적으로 공부했습니다. 학생들은 에너지 보존 개념의 관점에서 화학 반응의 에너지 변화를 설명하는 방법과 엔탈피 변화의 관점에서 발열 및 흡열 반응의 특성을 도표로 설명하는 방법을 배웠습니다. 학생들은 또한 간단한 열량 측정 방법을 사용하여 엔탈피 변화를 실험적으로 측정했습니다.
