During the concert, our learners demonstrated the PYP learner profile attributes of open-minded, risk-taker, caring, and principled individuals in each one of the performances. These celebrations deepened their understanding of how cultural practices connect us globally, a beautiful expression of international mindedness in action.

This week, students engaged thoughtfully with their assessment data completing Reading, Math, and Language Usage MAP assessments in Grade 2 – Grade 5. Of our younger students, K3-Grade 1 completed Math, Reading, and Reading fluency assessments.

Teachers will use MAP results formatively to inform next steps in instruction and design goals with students—ensuring our teaching remains responsive to each child’s learning journey. The MAP results will be shared with families the week after the holidays, so we can have time to inform parents, design goals with students, and meet some families to share the results.

As well, Unit Progress Reports cards offer a snapshot of your child’s development across the PYP’s five essential elements: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action. Today, we will be posting these reports cards via Managebac. You will receive an email with a Managebac notification indicating that your child’s reports have been posted. We encourage you to explore these documents with your child as a springboard for reflective conversation over the break.

This week, Mr. Alek from CNH visited our campus and presented information about our upcoming Week Without Walls.
Week Without Walls is a cornerstone of our PYP philosophy, intentionally designed to extend learning beyond classroom walls and into authentic, real-world contexts. These experiences nurture student agency by inviting learners to engage with local and global communities, grapple with genuine challenges, and take meaningful action, deepening their understanding of PYP concepts such as connection, responsibility, and perspective.

This week, UISZ DSE teachers and students visited Utahloy International School Guangzhou (UISG) for an in-depth exchange and observation. During the visit, UISG Head of School Dr. Mullend elivered a warm welcome address, vividly introducing the school’s educational philosophy and cultural characteristics. Subsequently, guided by the admissions team, the teachers and students immersed themselves in a tour of the campus teaching areas, arts spaces, and sports facilities, personally experiencing UISG’s vibrant learning atmosphere and humanistic environment.This visit not only provided a valuable opportunity for exchange between the two school communities but also servedas a meaningful prelude to the official merger of UISZ and UISG in the upcoming academic year. We look forward to the integration of both school communities into a closer and more diverse learning collective in the new academic year. The merged UISG will offer all students enriched curriculum resources, enhanced professional teaching support, and broader developmental opportunities, jointly writing a new chapter in international education.

During our joyous Chinese New Year Celebration, DSE students delivered a series of wonderful performances that illuminated the festive stage.The event began with D10 students’ uplifting choral performance of “Good Fortune Comes,” their vibrant voices carrying heartfelt wishes for the new year.This was followed by anelegant and moving piano solo by Zheng Junhang from D11, whose skillful playing demonstrated remarkable artistic sensibility.The celebration reached its climax with a powerful whole-class rendition of “Boundless Skies” by D11 students, their united voices embodying the aspirations and convictions of youth.These performances not only showcased our students’ diverse talents but also reflected the positive, collaborative, and forward-looking spirit of the UISZ community.

Last Friday, we had staff performances at the annual staff CNY dinner held at UISG. IB Secondary staff, Mr Kieran, Mr Gilbert, Ms Jane, and Ms Meiqing, were some of the amazing staff who performed for us that evening.

On the academic side of things, the Y10 group have had an incredibly busy and taxing week as they sat up to 7 examinations across their onscreen examination subjects. Well done to all of you for your focus and your dedication to showing your learning this week.

Non-uniform Friday 便服日

Chris Yun (G8) organised and ran a non-uniform day in celebration of this time of year. As part of the non-uniform day, Chris tasked each year-level class with getting a group photo so that he can make a display showcasing our IB Secondary community.
八年级的Chris Yun同学自主策划并组织了 “迎新春便服日” 活动。作为活动亮点之一,Chris还为每个年级布置了一项特别任务——拍摄集体合影,用以制作展示IB中学部大家庭风采的照片墙。
