We’re launching into another vibrant week, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new families who have joined our community this past week—we are thrilled to have you!
A huge thank you also goes to our incredible UPAZ parent and student representatives for their valuable contributions at our first School Consultative Forum (SCF) this past Thursday. Finally, a special shout out to our wonderful teachers; while last Wednesday was Teacher Appreciation Day in China, we celebrate their dedication and profound commitment to our students every single day.
Final preparations are in full swing for the upcoming secondary camps, and the excitement is building for this fantastic experiential learning adventure! In the meantime, please join us for our PYP Coffee Morning (Tuesday) and Coffee with the Counselors (Wednesday), learning more from our College Counselor, Ms. Yein Oh, and SEL Counselor, Ms. Julie Mullen as we support our students at UISZ!

G.2-G.5 Field Trip: We are thrilled to share that our Grades 2 to 5 students had an incredible time on their recent field trip to the Hyundai HTWO Science Classroom in Guangzhou! The visit was both educational and inspiring, as students explored the fascinating history and science behind hydrogen power technology—from its beginnings in 1998 to its role in shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future. One of the highlights of the day was when students got hands-on experience building their very own miniature hydrogen-powered cars! Through teamwork and creativity, they assembled models that ran using clean hydrogen energy, bringing concepts of innovation, engineering, and environmental stewardship to life. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity in action. This meaningful experience beautifully connected to our Units of Inquiry Who We Are and How We Express Ourselves, and marked a memorable start to our year of learning adventures.

Internship Program: We are proud to announce the launch of our exciting new internship partnership with Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, marking a significant step in strengthening school-university collaboration. This 12-week internship program welcomes pre-service educators from the university into our Primary School team, offering them hands-on experience in a dynamic, inquiry-based learning environment. This week, we were delighted to welcome Mr. Tim, who has joined our primary team as part of this initiative. During his time with us, Mr. Tim will observe classroom practices, support teachers, and engage in professional development opportunities that deepen his understanding of international education and student-centered pedagogy. This internship not only supports the growth of future educators but also reflects the growing recognition of our school’s innovative teaching approach. Through this partnership, we aim to contribute to the development of high-quality educators while enriching our own teaching community with fresh perspectives and collaborative energy.

ECAs: We are thrilled to announce that our Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) season officially begins this Monday! We are so excited to see students dive into the wide range of enriching and fun activities we’ve prepared, from sports and arts to cultural exploration. On Friday, parents received an email with the SchoolsBuddy enrollment link, and we’re grateful for your prompt responses. Over the weekend, families will receive a detailed schedule outlining your child’s ECA days, times, and locations. We can’t wait to see the energy and enthusiasm as our ECA program kicks off!

MAP Scores
MAP评估结果
This week, our teachers received and reviewed the recent MAP assessment results, and have begun analyzing the data to better understand each student’s academic progress. We are now in the process of combining this information with the latest WIDA scores to gain a comprehensive view of our English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners’ needs. Using this combined data, we are identifying the appropriate MTSS EAL Tier of Support for each student. MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is a framework that helps us provide targeted, research-based support tailored to individual language and learning needs. Within our EAL program, students are placed in one of several tiers, ranging from general classroom support (Tier 1) to more focused (Tier 2) or intensive (Tier 3) interventions, depending on their proficiency and learning goals. This ensures every student receives the right level of support to thrive academically and linguistically. If you’d like to learn more, I will be sharing further details about the MTSS EAL framework during our upcoming Coffee Morning on September 26th, where I’ll explain how we use these assessments to guide instruction and support your child’s success.

Mid-Autum Festival: We would like PYP families to join us for a magical evening at the UISZ Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration on Monday, September 15, from 3:30–5:00 PM at the MFH New Campus! Enjoy lantern walks, mooncake tasting, storytelling, traditional games, and the warm glow of community under the autumn moon.
Please note: Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the full event. If you’d like to take the ECA bus home afterward, let us know, routes remain unchanged. Or, if your child prefers to attend their regular ECA, that’s perfectly fine too!
Whether joining the festival or going to ECA, please confirm your family’s attendance with Ms. Yan. Unconfirmed students will follow regular 3:20 PM dismissal.

I hope this message finds you well. As we wrap up another productive week, I’d like to share some highlights and upcoming events with you.
Highlights of the Past Week
- Our ACAMIS volleyball teams are off to a strong start! Both the boys’ and girls’ squads won their opening matches against TLC International School on Tuesday. Congratulations to all our players on their excellent performance and team spirit.
- We were grateful to have officers from the Zengcheng Police Department visited our campus to deliver an important safety talk on Wednesday. The session provided valuable information and reinforced awareness among our students.
- Our ACAMIS soccer journey has begun! Our girls’ team kicked off with a fantastic win, and our boys’ team put up a valiant effort in a closely fought match. A great start for our teams!
- We have noticed an increase in unauthorized absences during evening self-study sessions. Please help us reinforce the importance of attendance and punctuality. Our homeroom teachers and head of boarding will be speaking with students to clarify expectations and ensure everyone follows the schedule.
The Week Ahead
We will be strengthening supervision around electronic device usage and self-study periods to help students stay focused and make the most of their learning time. Your support at home is greatly appreciated.
A detailed presentation regarding the DSE curriculum will be given to all DSE students and parents at the end of September. This will help provide clarity and guidance to both students and parents as we move forward.

- 增城区公安分局的警官们于近日莅临我校，为同学们开展了一场重要的安全讲座。本次活动为学生提供了实用的安全知识，进一步增强了大家的安全意识。
- 我校ACAMIS足球联赛之旅也已开启！女子代表队首战告捷，赢得精彩；男子代表队在一场激烈的比赛中表现出色、奋勇拼搏。两支队伍共同迎来了良好的开端！
- 近期晚自习无故缺席的情况有所增加，请家长协同我们一道引导孩子认识到按时出勤与遵守时间的重要性。班主任老师和住宿部主管将进一步与学生沟通，明确纪律要求，确保所有同学遵守自习安排。

Dear MYP and DP Parents,
MAP
This week has had a heavy focus on data collection with our MYP students all sitting MAP tests. Over the course of three days, they have been tested on Language Usage, Reading, and Mathematics. The information that is gathered in these tests aids our staff in creating targeted learning opportunities for our students. Over the coming weeks, we will be working as a staff to analyse and apply what we learn from this information
Sport
This week’s sport performances showcased our students’ athletic strengths.
The High School Volleyball teams played against TLC International School on Tuesday. Both our girls’ and boys’ teams won their games, which is an amazing result.
On Thursday, our Middle School Football teams travelled to the International School of Dongguan. The girls’ team was described by our Athletics Director, Mr Jaco, as playing ‘superbly’ and they won their football match. Unfortunately, the boys’ team lost against ISD in what Mr Jaco termed ‘a hard-fought battle’ in which they ‘never gave up’.
We’ve had a great week of sport with these amazing results and players’ performances for the first games of our sport season. Well done to our players and coaches.
The Week Ahead
Next week is our last full week of classroom learning before Week Without Walls. Students in Years 6-11 will be attending Week Without Walls excursions from the 22-26th September. Whilst these trips occur, our Y12 students will be hard at work using an adapted timetable aimed at giving them additional time for their assessments. The key focus of this week is a chance to reflect on their progress, to work on the next wave of internal assessments, and to have targeted time for additional Extended Essay work.

下周重点
下周将是“无墙周”（Week Without Walls）前的最后一个完整教学周。9月22 – 26日，6-11年级的同学们将参与“无墙周”户外研学项目，在真实场景中拓展学习边界。
与此同时，12年级的同学们将启用特别课表：在这一周重点包括学习进度反思、新一轮内部评估准备，以及专为拓展论文（Extended Essay）设置的额外学习时间。
