PYP EXPLORE

The entire UISZ Primary School, from Kindergarten to Grade 5, embarked on an unforgettable expedition to the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of fossilized dinosaur eggs. This whole-school field trip was far more than a day out; it was a powerful embodiment of the IB Primary Years Programme in action.

Guided by the Inquiry cycle, each grade level explored the museum through the lens of their current Unit of Inquiry.

What made this trip truly special was the cross-grade collaboration. Older students supported younger peers during activities, shared observations, and modeled curiosity, reinforcing our school’s values of community and mentorship. Teachers across year levels coordinated learning goals beforehand, ensuring the experience was both age-appropriate and conceptually rich.

The Heyuan Dinosaur Museum isn’t just about dinosaurs, it is a portal to deep time, scientific thinking, and cultural heritage. In the PYP, we believe real-world experiences ignite lifelong inquiry. Today, every child was a scientist, a historian, and a global learner.
From sketching fossils to debating how dinosaurs lived, students left the museum not with souvenirs, but with new questions, strengthened connections, and a deeper appreciation for our planet’s remarkable story.
