As we approach the shortest day of the year and the final full week of 2025, we look forward to celebrating together with a blend of community celebration and artistic expression. It is a wonderful opportunity to come together, reflect on a remarkable year, and share in the light before our well-earned winter break.

We launch the week with our radiant International Festival of Light (IFOL) this Sunday, 14th December (11 AM – 4 PM) hosted at UISG. This event embodies our community’s warmth and cultural diversity. All UISZ and UISG families are warmly invited to join this special day of shared light, and students have received free tickets to enter the event and lucky draw.
这周的重头戏是本周日（12月14日）于UISG校园举行的璀璨的”国际灯光节”（IFOL）（上午11时至下午4时）。这一活动凝聚了我们社区的温暖情谊与文化多样性，诚邀所有UISZ及UISG家庭共赴这场以光明为纽带的特别聚会。每位同学都已获赠活动入场券及幸运抽奖机会。
Seasonal cheer will fill our common spaces as Boarding students celebrate their Christmas Party along with the Festival of Arts celebration taking place throughout the week. A big shout out to our Arts Department for all their efforts in making this event a success.

Robotics Competition – A Proud First!
机器人竞赛——首战告捷！
On Thursday, our first-ever Robotics ECA team represented UISZ in the Robotics Competition in Guangzhou! This was a huge milestone, our young innovators designed, built, and coded their robots with focus and teamwork. We’re incredibly proud of their courage, collaboration, and curiosity.

Early Years (K–K2) explored how we express our feelings through art, using colors, textures, and movement to share emotions.

Grades 2–3 immersed themselves in poetry, drawing inspiration from the natural and human elements of our local community to craft beautiful verses.

Grade 4 has been hard at work on their entrepreneurship project, designing and building stunning handmade lanterns that will be for sale at the Festival of Arts!

Grade 5 deepened their math understanding through real-world applications, exploring coordinates, grids, and spatial reasoning. Skills they’ll use in mapping, design, and beyond.

This is the power of transdisciplinary learning: when music, visual art, literacy, math, and social studies weave together around meaningful concepts, learning becomes deeper, more joyful, and more memorable.

- 模拟商赛备战培训 Business Simulation training
This week, our campus buzzed with entrepreneurial energy! We launched an exciting Mock Business Competition Bootcamp for our D10 and D11 students. Transforming into “future CEOs,” our students dove into the simulated marketplace: from heated debates over market analysis to meticulous financial modeling, from brainstorming strategy sessions to confident pitch presentations. Every moment was filled with challenge and intellectual spark.
本周，校园里的商业火花被点燃！我们为D10、D11的同学们精心准备了一场模拟商赛实战训练营。同学们化身“未来CEO”，在模拟市场中纵横捭阖：从激烈讨论的市场分析，到精打细算的财务建模；从头脑风暴的战略制定，到自信闪耀的路演展示。每一个环节都充满挑战与智慧的碰撞。
- 化学巨型离子结构的实验操作与演示 Experimental operation and demonstration of chemical giant ion structure
For this chemistry lab, we D11 students explored the world of “giant ionic structures” through hands-on experiments.We built models of crystals like table salt, getting a clear look at how ions arrange themselves in orderly, giant structures. Throughout the session, we worked together in teams—operating, observing, and discussing. The concepts from our textbooks came to life right before our eyes. It was a fun and engaging way to really understand these chemical structures, making for a truly great learning experience!这次的化学实验课，我们D11年级的同学们一起动手探索了“巨型离子结构”的奥秘。我们用材料搭建了像食盐那样的晶体模型，直观地看到了离子整齐排列的壮观结构。整个过程中，大家分工合作，一边动手操作，一边讨论原理，课堂上学到的知识一下子变得具体、生动起来。这次实验不仅好玩，更让我们对这些化学物质有了实实在在的认识，是一次非常棒的体验！
- 圣诞白象礼物交换派对Christmas White Elephant Gift Exchange Party
We successfully held a Christmas White Elephant Gift Exchange Party for our DSE teachers on December 10. Teachers brought creatively wrapped gifts, creating an atmosphere full of surprises and laughter. Thank you to all participants for making this special celebration warm and joyful, and for sharing wonderful festive moments together!

1、模拟商赛 Business Simulation 2025
This weekend, a group of our DSE students will travel to Chiway Repton School Xiamen to participate in the ASDAN Business Simulation (2025) from December 13 to 14. Working in teams of 6-8 as a “company,” students will engage in multiple rounds of business simulation, including presentations, operations, auctions, and case analysis, experiencing real-world decision-making and market competition.
This off-campus competition provides not only professional exposure to business dynamics but also a valuable opportunity to develop teamwork, strategic thinking, and communication skills. We wish our students a rewarding experience—may they collaborate effectively, think critically, and demonstrate both academic competence and leadership throughout the challenge!
本周末，我校部分DSE学生将启程前往 厦门华锐莱普顿学校，参加于 12月13日至14日 举行的 ASDAN 模拟商业挑战（2025）。同学们将以6-8人团队的形式，在全真模拟的商业环境中进行路演、运营、拍卖与案例分析等多轮竞技，体验真实的商业决策与市场竞争。
此次外出参赛不仅是一次专业的商科实践，更是锻炼团队协作、策略思维与临场表达的综合平台。预祝同学们在比赛中沉着应对、默契配合，展现扎实的学术素养与优秀的领导力，在“商学琅琊榜”上留下精彩表现！
2、厦门研学之旅 Xiamen Study Tour
Next week, our learning journey will extend to the beautiful coastal city of Xiamen. On Monday and Tuesday, we will carry out a two-day research study in this city brimming with cultural charm and natural scenery. Students will have the chance to explore the historical architecture of Gulangyu Island, experiencing the fusion of Chinese and Western cultural heritage; stroll through the campus of Xiamen University, appreciating the harmony between academia and nature; and gaze at the strait views along the Island Ring Road, reflecting on the balance between marine ecology and urban development. We hope that through this study trip, everyone will learn through exploration, reflect through observation, transform classroom knowledge into real-world experiences, and gain a fulfilling and unforgettable memory of growth.

Next Wednesday, the House Captains Election will take place. Candidates will present their visions for enhancing house spirit and unity, demonstrating their leadership and commitment to service. This event not only provides students with an opportunity to develop their public speaking and organizational skills but also brings fresh energy to each house, fostering a more collaborative and positive campus community.

School Sustainability Project 校园可持续发展计划
On Thursday, Dr Mullen, Ms Lauren, and Mr Barth were invited to a presentation by the Y10 EAL class with Ms Trudel. The students pitched a composting solution that they would like to put into place to help minimise food waste. They presented a slick overview of their planning and research and readily answered questions posed. This initiative also links to Donte’s Personal Project, so it will be great to see how this project develops as Donte and the sustainability group moves through the phases of their plan.

University of the Arts London visit 伦敦艺术大学到访活动
On Tuesday, Visual Arts and Design students from Y9-12 attended a presentation from the University of the Arts London. It was an opportunity to hear from faculty members of the university and learn more about studying at an Arts university.
周二，9 – 12年级的视觉艺术学生与设计学生参加了伦敦艺术大学专场说明会。同学们有幸聆听了大学老师们的专业分享，深入了解了艺术类院校的学习体验与特色。
Summative Assessment Week 总结性评估周
There have been many end-of-unit assessments happening this week as we wrap up the semester. I hope that students take on board the feedback they receive once work has been marked. Carefully reading this feedback provides targeted information on areas of strength and areas to focus on next.
随着学期临近尾声，本周各学科单元评估陆续开展。希望同学们在收到批阅反馈后能认真研读评语，这些宝贵建议将帮助大家清晰自己的强项与后续需要关注的领域。
Some MYP students have been part of Mr Jaco’s PACE initiative that ran this week. PACE stands for Progress and Completion Extension and has been piloted by Mr Jaco to help students catch up on assessment tasks they have not yet completed in their class and homework time.
部分MYP的同学们参与了Jaco老师本周启动的 “PACE支持计划”，即学业进度完善拓展计划。该计划旨在利用课内外时间，协助同学们顺利完成尚未完成的评估功课。
