This week has been unusually quiet on campus, as secondary students are away on their annual Week Without Walls (WWW). While we have missed their energy, we know they are building resilience and friendships outdoors.

We look forward to welcoming them back on Friday, eager to hear their stories and celebrate their adventures. Please give your campers a warm welcome when they return and encourage them to share the highlights of their experience with you.

Our school halls are buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning! Here’s a peek into what our learners are exploring this week:

K-K2: Our littlest learners are practicing teamwork and creative problem-solving! During Art class, they self-organized to share one large canvas for a collaborative painting, learning how to negotiate space, colors, and ideas. They’re also discovering that art doesn’t require traditional brushes; everything from sponges to recycled materials can make a masterpiece.
幼儿园(K-K2): 最年幼的学习者们正在练习团队合作与创造性解决问题!在美术课上,他们自主组织,共用一张大画布进行合作绘画,学习如何协商空间、颜色与创意。他们还发现,艺术创作并不局限于传统画笔——从海绵到回收材料,任何物品都可以创造出杰作。


K3 & Grade 1: Through Writers Workshop and our UOI, students are focusing on classroom agency. They’re learning how to clearly share and explain the various jobs in our room and the responsibilities that come with each role. Ownership is the first step toward leadership!

Grade 2- 3: Our students are weaving history, literacy, and math together! A recent tea-tasting session connected to their UOI as students learned how tea leaves once served as currency in ancient trade routes. In the classroom, they’ve been tackling UOI-themed sentence jumbles, diving into guided reading with our core text How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World and turning math fluency into friendly competition with a division & multiplication “tug of war!”

Grade 4: Our students went to Shimao Park to fly kites as part of their Unit of Inquiry. This experience connects directly to our central idea: “Evidence of past civilizations can be used to make connections between present-day societies.” Students will explore how this ancient invention bridges cultures, time, and communities.

Grade 5: Our G5 learners are exploring the concept of “heroes” by comparing and connecting IB Learner Profile attributes to real-life and historical figures. They’re reflecting on how traits like courage, empathy, and principled action shape the people who make a difference in our world. During Guided-Reading time, they learn about heroes around the world.

Student-Led Conferences (SLCs): We’re currently preparing for our upcoming Student-Led Conferences! Unlike traditional parent-teacher meetings, SLCs put students in the driver’s seat.

What are they? Your child will guide you through their learning journey, showcasing portfolios, reflecting on their growth, and sharing goals.

How do they work? Your child will lead a 15 minute meeting, sharing their favorite work, explaining what they’ve learned, and discussing their next steps.

On April 2nd, our D10 and D11 students participated in a student-initiated and teacher-guided spring outing, themed “Sunshine Skiing, Joyful Campus Tour.” This joyful day was filled with outdoor activities, team challenges, and plenty of laughter. From exciting skiing experiences to fun campus-style games, students built stronger friendships, developed teamwork skills, and created lasting memories together. The event truly reflected the leadership, creativity, and positive energy that shine within our UISZ community.

Next week marks a monumental milestone for our D12 students as the DSE Examinations officially commence. This is the moment our graduates have been working toward, and we couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and perseverance.
下周,我们D12的毕业生将迎来学业生涯中的重要时刻——DSE大考正式开考。这是同学们多年努力与坚持的见证,我们为每一位同学的成长与付出感到无比骄傲。
Our D12 teachers will be traveling with the students to Hong Kong, providing full escort, on-site support, and encouragement throughout the examination period. From last-minute guidance to calming words before each paper, our teachers will be there every step of the way—just as they have been throughout this entire journey.

On Monday we were treated to the opening of the DP2 Visual Arts exhibition, ‘Common Complexities’.

You received information this week about our upcoming Learning Conferences and how to book appointments with our teaching staff. We look forward to talking about the learning progress each student has made and setting goals together for the remainder of the year. These conferences are Parent-Teacher-Student conferences as we want all 3 to be part of the conversation.
