This week at UISZ, we continued to explore the themes of community and celebration, highlighting the achievements of our students across various grades. Our MYP Year 10 students completed their mock exams, an important tool for reflecting on their learning journey and preparing for the upcoming MYP E exams. The students dedicated themselves to this process, demonstrating seriousness and commitment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, our Year 4 and 5 students hosted an Author Celebration of Learning, where they showcased their creativity and skills as authors. The event was well-supported by parents and students from across the school, creating a vibrant atmosphere of celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A significant aspect of UISZ’s legacy is the active participation of our community, which adds voice and action in support of our school. A prime example of this involvement is our SCF meeting, where UPAZ representatives, student leaders, and faculty come together to share successes and discuss our collective journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have several exciting events coming up during the week of March 24-28 to celebrate student achievement and support learning: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 25: <\/strong>Festival of the Arts performance and community day, featuring visual arts displays and music performances, along with parent sessions and focus groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 26:<\/strong> High school students will explore insights about careers at the UISZ\/UISG Career Fair, supported by several parents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 28:<\/strong> Parents are invited to participate in student-led and 3-way conferences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art Culture and Connection_PYP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Grade 5, students applied their research skills to develop creative ideas based on their chosen themes and cultures. Exploring the use of signs and symbols was essential for them to express their ideas. They practiced line drawing and organized their compositions to present the essence of different cultures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They researched traditional pottery styles, replicated motifs or techniques, and discussed the cultural significance of their designs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative students had the option to choose between 2D or 3D mediums as a visual language to present their ideas. They focused on accuracy and techniques to effectively express and plan their concepts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watercolors Art Exploration <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Grade 2 and 3, students explored the fun of using watercolors! The theme for their creative expression was “Beautiful Nature Around.” They learned the basics of this water-based art medium. Here are some important techniques they practiced: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start Light: <\/strong>They began with light and thin colors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brush Use: <\/strong>For small areas, they used small brushes, and for big areas, they used big brushes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layering: <\/strong>Later, they added more opaque (thicker) colors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finishing Touches: Finally, they included special details to complete their artwork. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding art elements and vocabulary was also very important. This helped students think critically and creatively about their projects. MYP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, in Chinese Language and Literature class, year 10 students reviewed the types of exam questions and response strategies for the E-assessment, and they also revisited knowledge related to writing techniques, such as rhetorical devices. On Monday of this week, students successfully completed the mock exam for the Chinese Language and Literature subject of the E-assessment. According to feedback from some students, their text analysis skills have improved. It is hoped that students will continue to work hard and prepare seriously for the E-assessment to lay a solid foundation for advancing to the DP program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 9 Chinese Language and Literature students are currently exploring the “Biography” unit. At the beginning of the unit, each student borrowed a biography to read, gaining some awareness of the stylistic features of this genre. Subsequently, they acted as experts in genre studies, collaboratively writing the “Biography” entry for the “Encyclopedia of Genres.” Using the biographies they read as examples, they defined the biography genre and discussed the language features, types, text elements, and creative purposes of this genre. After collaboratively constructing theoretical knowledge of biography, they applied this knowledge to identify biography texts from a collection of texts with different genres. This week, they discussed the similarities and differences between character sketches, novels, and biographies, and they conducted a self-assessment of their group’s collaboration. Throughout this process, students’ ATL skills in thinking, researching, communicating, and reflecting were developed. In the next step, students will explore the requirements and techniques for writing biographies to prepare for creating a short biography article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having completed the important mock exams from last week to this Monday, DP 2 students have received meaningful feedback from teachers and invigilators. They are also reflecting on the areas that need improvement for the final DP exam and future studies. A reflective approach allows for the development of a growth mindset, which is important for a healthy learning process during the IB program.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From now until March, it will be a crucial phase for DP2 students to complete and submit all Internal Assessment (IA) and External Assessment (EA) documents to the IB. Each DP subject has an IA, which accounts for 20-40 percent of the total grade. Students are asked to complete the work independently with guidance from the subject teachers. After completing the IA, students will focus on revising subject content in preparation for the final DP exams, which begin on April 28 this year. Let’s wish them all the best! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HKDSE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, the second week after the Chinese New Year Holiday, the campus quickly regained its former vitality, and students plunged into their studies with great enthusiasm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Year 12 students who are going to take the college entrance examinations in April, this week was filled with tension and concentration. Teachers meticulously sorted out the key knowledge points according to the examination syllabus and conducted a series of special tutoring courses for them. The students spontaneously formed study groups, supervised and encouraged each other, and seized every minute to review for the exams. They also took advantage of their spare time to consult teachers, leaving no difficult problem unaddressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Year 11 students also quickly got back into the rhythm of learning. They actively participated in class discussions and conscientiously completed their homework after class. The subject quizzes carried out this week tested everyone’s grasp of the knowledge. Although some students had deficiencies, they were all able to actively reflect and make improvements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, there was a strong learning atmosphere in the DSE Curriculum Center this week. We look forward to the students preparing for the college entrance examinations achieving their desired results, and hope that other students can steadily progress in their subsequent studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
