With the completion of the Economics paper, the 2026 DSE exams have officially come to an end.
First of all, to every student who has persevered until the very last moment:
Well done!
You should be proud of yourselves.
We wish you all the best in achieving outstanding results.

However, finishing the exams does not mean you can completely relax just yet. The results release date is set for July 15, which means there are still two full months to go before your results are announced.
So, what should you focus on during these two months of summer break, apart from resting? Below are three important things that will affect your pathway to further studies. Please read carefully.
1、Check Your Email Regularly
First and foremost: remember to check your email regularly.
Most university interview invitations and admission notifications will be sent to students via email. There have already been cases where students missed interviews simply because they forgot to check their email.
Suggestions:
- Enable pop-up notifications for new emails on your email app
- Check your email at least once a day (including the spam folder)
- Make sure the email address you have provided is correct
2、Research Hong Kong University Programmes and Revise Mainland University Applications
The summer break offers plenty of time to thoroughly research your university preferences.
For Mainland university application revisions (for students holding a Home Return Permit):
- Deadline: May 14
- It is strongly recommended that you accurately estimate your Mathematics score, as well as your total score in Chinese, English, and Mathematics
- The DSE Mainland university application system only considers the first choice as valid — please choose your first priority carefully
For JUPAS applications (Hong Kong universities):
- Results Release Date: July 15
- Estimate your scores for each subject and prepare best-case, middle-case, and worst-case scenarios
- Compare your estimated scores with the previous years’ admission scores of your desired programmes
- Prepare three sets of plans in advance: “reach,” “match,” and “safe”
3、Take IELTS or Other English Language Tests
If you are planning to use your DSE results to apply to overseas universities, please pay close attention to the IELTS test.
- Most UK or Australian universities ranked in the QS top 100 require an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0
- For students whose DSE English results may not meet the requirements of overseas institutions, taking the IELTS is especially important — because IELTS scores can replace DSE English for admission purposes
Regarding the relationship between IELTS and JUPAS/Mainland university applications:
- There is no direct impact — IELTS results do not affect JUPAS or Mainland university admissions
- However, during university, a good IELTS score can be beneficial when applying for exchange programmes or overseas study opportunities
