This week was a short week, but we are proud to celebrate and reflect on the heart of our curriculum: Transdisciplinary Learning.

At the core of the Primary Years Programme is the belief that learning should not happen in silos. True understanding happens when students can take concepts, skills, and knowledge from one context and apply them to another. This is known as Transfer Learning, the ability to use what you’ve learned in one situation to solve problems or create meaning in a new, different situation. It is the bridge between “knowing” and “understanding.”
小学项目的核心理念在于:学习不应是各自为政的孤岛。只有当学生能够将一个情境中的概念、技能和知识迁移并应用于另一个情境时,真正的理解才会发生。这便是“迁移式学习”——即运用已在某情境中所学,去解决全新、不同情境中的问题,或创造新的意义。它是在“知晓”与“理解”之间架起的一座桥梁。

To ensure this is deeply embedded in our daily practice, our teachers have recently engaged in targeted Professional Development sessions on campus, digital sessions, and sessions in Thailand and in China. These workshops focused on intentional planning strategies that make transfer learning an essential, non-negotiable part of our unit design. Our goal is to empower students to become flexible thinkers who can connect their learning across subjects and into the real world.

We are seeing this philosophy come to life beautifully in our K–K2 classrooms. Currently exploring the transdisciplinary theme of Sharing the Planet, our youngest learners are discovering the power of taking care of plants. But they aren’t just learning science; they are collaborating with our Art class! By integrating artistic expression with biological observation, students are transferring their understanding of growth and care into creative projects. This collaboration helps them see that protecting our environment is not just a scientific duty, but also an aesthetic and emotional connection to the world around us. It’s a perfect example of how transdisciplinary learning makes abstract concepts tangible and meaningful for young minds.

Our K3 and Year 1 students are diving deep into their Unit of Inquiry on Buildings and Structures. They are analyzing different types of homes from around the world, exploring how materials, climate, and culture influence where and how we live. By comparing these structures, students are transferring their observational skills to understand the diverse ways humans adapt to their environments. They also transfer this learning into Music class where Math is becoming an essential part of their learning.
我们K3与一年级的学生们正深入探究“建筑与结构”这一单元。他们正分析世界各地不同类型的居所,探索材料、气候与文化如何影响我们的居住地点与生活方式。通过比较这些建筑,学生们正将观察技能迁移至理解人类适应环境的多元方式。同时,他们也将这一学习迁移到音乐课堂——数学正在那里成为他们学习中不可或缺的一部分。


In Grades 2 and 3, learners are investigating the concepts of money, value, and currencies. Through hands-on activities, they are exploring how exchange works and why value differs across contexts. This unit goes beyond simple arithmetic; it encourages students to think critically about economic systems and responsible decision-making, transferring mathematical understanding into real-life financial literacy.

Grade 4 students are deepening their conceptual understanding of change over time by exploring how natural forces, such as water, transform the Earth’s landscape through hands-on investigation.

Meanwhile, our Grade 5 students are making incredible strides in their PYP Exhibition (PYPX). They are deep into the research phase, asking complex questions and seeking answers with independence and passion.
A highlight of their journey occurred this past Wednesday, when our PYPX students visited GBA Academy to attend their friends’ PYP Exhibition. This visit was more than just a field trip; it was a powerful moment of transfer learning and inspiration. By observing how other students presented their inquiries, our students gained new perspectives on how to structure their own projects, communicate their findings, and take action. They returned to our campus energized, with fresh ideas and a renewed sense of purpose for their own exhibitions.

The winners of our two Book Festival competitions were announced last Friday.

The winner was Year 8’s Alice in Wonderland-inspired door. It was full of lovely details like roses made from playing cards.
