Mike Bailey

UISZ Head of School

Mike Bailey is thrilled to introduce himself as the new Head of School of Utahloy International School Zengcheng (UISZ) and to embark on an exciting journey alongside the UISZ community. With over 20 years of experience dedicated to international education, he brings a wealth of knowledge in IB curriculum and school leadership across diverse global settings.


His educational journey has taken him from Korea to the United States, Qatar, India, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, shaping his perspective on fostering inclusive and dynamic learning environments. Having previously served in leadership roles within IB schools in India, the United States, and the DRC, Mike is eager to return to China and lead UISZ into its next chapter.


Joining him in this endeavor are his wife, who will contribute her expertise in the PYP division, and their daughter, who is enrolled in the MYP program. The Bailey family’s commitment to education is deeply rooted, and they are enthusiastic about becoming integral members of the UISZ community.


Mike is passionate about cultivating a community where exploration, learning, and growth flourish. Central to his educational philosophy are innovation and contextual learning, ensuring that students not only excel academically but also develop into thoughtful global citizens. He looks forward to meeting each member of the community, collaborating closely with faculty, staff, students, and parents, as they work together to elevate UISZ to new heights of excellence.

Tara O’Brien

Head of Primary and PYP Coordinator

Tara O’Brien is originally from a small town outside of San Francisco and has worked in international education for the past 16 years. She has taught and served in administrative positions at international schools in Budapest (Hungary), Doha (Qatar), and Lausanne (Switzerland).  

 

She is am passionate about all things education and is constantly on the lookout for programs to expand her knowledge-base. Tara holds a Masters degree, Educational Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction, and Harvard Certificate of School Management and Leadership. After giving birth to her  second child, she  began her  doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Social-Emotional learning and Character Development. .She  finds it rewarding to take intentional steps towards achieving a long-term goal and believes that a school should continually strive to grow and improve.

Nicholas Heymans

UISZ Head of Boarding

Nicholas Heymans, originally from South Africa, has over a decade of experience in boarding schools across South Africa, Russia, and Berlin. He has successfully led boarding programs, managed ICT and Technology departments, and served as master in charge of hockey. His passion lies in creating positive, inclusive environments for students from diverse backgrounds. Nicholas believes strongly in the principles of positive education, fostering resilience, and a growth mindset in students. 

 

Nicholas holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of South Africa and is pursuing a Master of Education in Advanced Teaching (IB). He has taught ICT, Coding & Robotics, English, Math, and History, and is actively involved in sports coaching.
