Dear students, parents and friends of the UISZ community,
This week marked the beginning of our brand-new Extracurricular Activities Programme (ECA), and we are extremely happy to note its overwhelming success. We are still working diligently at optimizing our bus services so that our students can reach home as soon as possible and, of course, while adhering to all safety matters.
The next week will see our years 3-10 students taking their MAP assessment in a new format, just before a well-deserved break.

Year 8
We are finishing up our first unit this week, which has been all about the laws of exponents, scientific notation and converting repeating decimals into fractions. The students made small posters about the laws of exponents that are sitting in the hallway. We also had a fun lesson researching very large and small numbers such as the width of the sun or an atom on the internet. We are going to start learning about triangles and trigonometry in the next unit.
Year 9
We are finishing up our first unit all about univariate statistics and diagrams. We have a list of statistics that the students need to be able to calculate, using data that comes in several different forms. Then they need to create and analyze diagrams about the data. The last few things we have been working on are how to use statistics and diagrams to compare two sets of data.
We had already spent some time working on systems of equations because the students identified it as a topic they needed help with. After we finish the current unit, we will be focusing on algebra for quite some time.
Year 10
This class has been juggling a bit. On the one hand students are learning probability, and how to get basic probabilities and combine two events in different ways. The students are also learning to identify special properties of events that make their calculations easier. The whole class learns this together, and we are wrapping up this unit soon.
On the other hand, I have been re-teaching how to do the more difficult algebra topics from grade 9; namely linear, quadratic, and systems of equations. This is being done as a mixture of whole-class and individual time, based on what ‘level’ each student is performing at. This is a point of frustration for most students – and that’s the reason we are doing it. Everyone has been showing progress in being able to solve more difficult problems.

9 학년

동시에 저는 9학년부터 어려워진 대수, 즉 선형, 이차 및 기타 방정식을 재교육하고 있습니다. 이것은 각 학생이 어떤 ‘수준’인지에 따라 전체 수업 시간과 개별 시간의 혼합으로 수행되고 있습니다. 대수는 대부분의 학생들에게 좌절의 지점이고 그렇기 때문에 우리는 수준에 따른 복습을 하고 있습니다. 학생들 모두는 좀 더 어려운 문제를 풀 수 있을만한 수준으로 진전을 보였습니다.

In this week, we mainly present the results of our learning in recent weeks – Shu Ting’s poetry. The test paper, which almost completely simulates the IB Chinese A paper2, brings students a new and different experience. From Shu Ting’s “To the Oak Tree”, “Brig” to Shu Ting’s “Goddess Peak” and even “Hui’an Women”. The students have a comprehensive and multi-angle understanding of Shu Ting.
How did Shu Ting, an ordinary female worker with only the second grade of junior high school education, write the well-known “To the Oak Tree”? Bring people a new view of love, strong independent spirit and self-improvement spirit of struggle. “Self-love” is particularly evident in Shu Ting’s poetry. At the same time, Shu Ting has a strong sense of social responsibility. She pays attention to “society” as well as “individual”. Writing the sadness of the times is Shu Ting’s sense of mission as a hazy poet.
The students spoke freely, and new viewpoints and new views emerged one by one. In mastering Shu Ting’s poetry, the students also felt the unique charm of poetry.
I hope that the students, as the leaders of the new generation, can follow the torrent of the times and write a new chapter of their own!
国际文凭大学预科课程
本周的课堂上，我们主要展示了近期几周我们的学习成果——舒婷的诗。
几乎完全模拟IB Chinese A真题paper2的试卷带给了同学们与众不同的新体验。从舒婷的《致橡树》、《双桅船》到舒婷的《神女峰》甚至是《惠安女子》。
同学们对于舒婷有了一个全方位、多角度的理解。
舒婷，一个只有初中二年级文化水平的普通女工，何以写出家喻户晓的《致橡树》？
带给人们新的爱情观、强烈的独立精神和自强不息的奋斗精神。
“自爱”在舒婷的诗歌中表现得尤为明显。同时，舒婷有着强烈的社会责任感，她关注“社会”的同时也关注于“个人”。
对时代忧伤的抒写，是舒婷作为一个朦胧诗人的使命感所在。
同学们纷纷畅所欲言，新的观点、新的看法层出不穷。
同学们在掌握舒婷的诗歌中，也感受到了诗歌独特的魅力。
希望同学们作为新一代的翘楚，能够跟随时代的洪流，书写属于自己新的篇章！
디플로마 과정
이번 주에 우리는 최근 몇 주간의 학습 결과인 Shu Ting의 시를 발표했습니다. IB 중국어 A paper2를 거의 완벽하게 재현한 이 시험지는 학생들에게 새롭고 색다른 경험을 선사했습니다. Shu Ting의 “참나무에게”, “쌍돛단배”부터 “신녀봉” 그리고 심지어 “후이안 여성”까지요. 학생들은 Shu Ting에 대해 포괄적이고 다각도로 이해했습니다.
중학교 2학년까지의 학력만을 가진 평범한 여성 노동자인 Shu Ting은 어떻게 이유명한 작품 “참나무로”를 썼을까요? 이 작품은 사람들에게 새로운 사랑에 대한 견해, 강한 독립 정신, 그리고 투쟁의 자기 계발 정신을 선사합니다. 그중에서도 “자기애”는 Shu Ting의 시에서 특히 두드러집니다. 그녀의 작품은 사회적 책임감 또한 담고 있습니다. 그녀는 “개인”뿐만 아니라 “사회”에도 관심을 기울입니다. 시대에 대한 슬픈 서사는 시인으로서 가지는 Shu Ting의 사명감을 보여줍니다.
학생들은 작품에 대해 자유롭게 발표했고, 새로운 관점과 견해가 끊임없이 이어졌습니다. 학생들은 또한 Shu Ting’의 시를 완전히 이해하면서 시가 가진 독특한 매력을 느낄 수 있었습니다.

In this week’s math class, we were devoted to the unit “Functions and Their Graphs”.
这周的数学课上，我们致力于学习“函数及其图像”这一单元。
이번 주 수학 시간에 우리는요.’함수와 그 이미지’를 배우는데 주력하고 있습니다.1단원이요.
What is “Functions”? What is the basic meaning of the word function? It is something with a function. In order to help students understand the concepts, Ms. Fei likened the function to a machine or a black box. Given an input value x, a unique output value f(x) is produced.
什么是函数？
函数的英文是Function，这个单词的最基础的意思是功能，也就是说函数其实是具有某种功能的一个东西。
함수란 무엇입니까? ‘함수’라는 단어의 기본적인 의미가 무엇일까요? 이 단어의 사전적 의미는 기능입니다. 즉, 함수는 실제로 어떤 기능을 가진 것을 말합니다.학생들이 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 Fei 선생님은 함수를 기계 또는 블랙박스에 비유했습니다. 입력 값 x를 넣으면, 고유한 출력 값 f(x)를 생성됩니다.
Next, we learned the concept of “domain and codomain, independent variables and dependent variables” in function.
为了帮助同学们更好地理解，王老师将函数比喻成了一台机器或者一个黑箱，给予了一个输入值x便产生唯一输出值f(x)。
다음으로 우리는 함수에서 “도메인 및 상위 도메인의 정의, 독립 변수 및 종속 변수의 개념”에 대해 배웠습니다.
Finally, it’s time to put what you learn into practice! Ms. Fei gave students some class exercises, and the students shared their learning results. Zhe Ning introduced a new mathematical method called “substitution method”, which can solve many problems related to functions.
接下来我们一起了解了函数中“定义域和上域、自变量和应变量”的直观概念。
最后就是学以致用的时候了！王老师给大家布置了课堂练习，同学们完成了之后互相交流与分享学习成果。
其中，哲宁同学向大家介绍了一种新的数学方法，叫做“换元法”，这种方法可以解决有关函数的许多问题。
마지막으로 배운 것을 실행에 옮길 차례입니다! Fei 선생님은 학생들 모두에게 수업 연습을 시켰고, 학생들은 그들의 학습 결과를 공유했습니다. Zhe Ning 학생은 함수와 관련된 많은 문제를 해결할 수 있는 “환원법”이라는 새로운 수학적 방법을 소개했습니다.
