Learning
IB Continuum
The values and educational philosophies of the IB Programmes are to ensure that students are encouraged to make their own ideas and to understand the application of these ideas within their own lives. The programmes at UISZ are student-centred, emphasising the importance of connectedness and concurrency of learning.
IB PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. At the heart of the programme’s philosophy is a commitment to structured, purposeful inquiry as the leading vehicle for learning.
IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
In the MYP at UISZ we focus on academic development and student engagement. Through the transition into the MYP from PYP we aim to introduce the students to the rigorous criteria of the MYP in the IB programs whilst nurturing their interest in the academic subjects leading t o a well-rounded student prepared to join the DP in high school.
IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
The IB Diploma programme (DP) is a two-year post-16 programme of study that is considered excellent preparation for university and vocational pursuits worldwide. It is an academically challenging programme and internationally recognised for its ability to help prepare students to succeed at undergraduate level.
Mother Tongue Languages
The IBO recommends that from at least the age of 7, all students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) have the opportunity to learn more than one language.
English as an Additional Language
At UISZ we believe that languages are developed in context; words do not make much sense if they are not attached to the reality they represent. There is a difference between the social language we use with friends and family and the academic language proficiency we need to succeed at school.
