UISG MYP
MYP eAssessment
Utahloy International School of Guangzhou (UISG) has achieved outstanding results in the May 2026 Middle Years Programme (MYP) eAssessment, demonstrating the strength of its educational programme and the dedication of its students and staff. With 29 candidates participating, the school saw 24 students successfully earn the prestigious MYP certificate, representing a passing rate of 86%. This achievement is particularly significant as it aligns with the steady and consistent increase in passing rates that UISG has experienced since the school first began offering the eAssessment in 2017, reflecting the ongoing refinement of its teaching practices and student support systems. The cohort’s performance was exceptional, with an average point score of 42 out of a possible 56, significantly surpassing the global average of 36.4 points. The highest individual achievement was an impressive 48 points, while the average grade awarded across all subjects was a strong 5.18 out of a maximum of 7, reflecting consistent high-level attainment across the student body.

These results place UISG firmly among the top-performing IB World Schools, showcasing the effectiveness of its inquiry-based approach to learning. The MYP eAssessment is a rigorous and holistic evaluation that goes beyond traditional testing. Crucially, the final grade is not determined by a single examination but is a composite score derived from three integrated components: on-screen examinations, ePortfolios of coursework, and the 개인 프로젝트. This structure ensures that students are assessed on their ability to perform under exam conditions while also recognising their sustained effort, creativity, and independent inquiry over time.
The on-screen examinations challenge students to think critically and independently, applying their knowledge to solve complex, real-world problems in unfamiliar settings using global contexts. However, it is the ePortfolios and the Personal Project that truly capture the personal and creative interests of each student. The ePortfolios allow learners to showcase their best coursework in subjects like art, design, and physical and health education, reflecting their individual talents and passions through practical, process-oriented work. Meanwhile, the Personal Project is a culminating, student-driven endeavour that enables each candidate to explore a topic of deep personal significance. This year, over 1,200 IB World Schools in 124 countries submitted students’ personal projects, highlighting the global importance of this creative and self-directed component. For UISG, the strong performance across all three assessment pillars confirms that its students excel not only academically but also in their ability to pursue independent, meaningful work.

Adding to this impressive profile, UISG’s 2026 cohort also achieved a remarkable milestone in multilingualism: 82% of the 24 successful candidates earned bilingual certificates. To qualify for this distinction, students must complete assessments in both their mother tongue and at an English proficiency level or higher, demonstrating advanced linguistic capability across two languages. This achievement not only underscores the school’s commitment to fostering intercultural understanding and communication but also highlights the diverse linguistic backgrounds within the UISG community.

This success is particularly noteworthy given the global context of the MYP. For the May 2026 session, 359 schools in 82 countries participated in the optional eAssessment. Dr. Matthew Glanville, Director of Assessment at the IB, praised the worldwide efforts, stating, “It’s truly rewarding to witness the achievements of MYP students worldwide as they take on our assessments with passion and dedication. These students deserve immense credit, as do the educators across the IB community whose guidance has supported them on their journey to becoming thoughtful, compassionate, and principled citizens of the world.” The UISG community echoes this sentiment, celebrating the resilience and intellectual curiosity of its students, who balanced exam preparation with sustained creative inquiry while also excelling in bilingual proficiency.

The MYP is designed to build on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) while preparing students for the academic rigour of the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP). The critical thinking, self-management, and collaborative skills honed through the composite assessment model facilitate a smooth transition for students continuing within the IB continuum. UISG’s remarkable eAssessment results—marked by a sustained upward trajectory in pass rates, exceptional average scores, and a record number of bilingual certificates—are a clear indicator that its students are not only well-prepared for future academic challenges but are also developing into the thoughtful, principled, and globally-minded citizens that the IB aims to cultivate. This outstanding performance, achieved across exams, coursework, and personal projects, is a proud moment for the entire UISG community and a validation of the school’s unwavering dedication to educational excellence.
