Subject: Celebrating Our Community & Welcoming New Families
UISG 커뮤니티 여러분,
I hope this message finds you well. As we close another productive week, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your continued dedication and hard work. Your contributions make our community thrive, and it is an honor to serve alongside each of you.
One of the most rewarding parts of my role is welcoming prospective families to our school community. From touring our dynamic learning spaces to engaging in conversations with our passionate teachers, it is always a joy to share the exceptional work happening at UISG. This week, I had the pleasure of hosting families from the Consulate General of the Philippines in Guangzhou—a wonderful reminder of the diverse and growing community, we are building together.
As we look ahead, I encourage everyone to carry this positive momentum forward and continue supporting one another in the weeks to come.
Here’s a snapshot of our vibrant week ahead:
- This Weekend, Jan 17 & 18:ACAMIS VEX Robotics Regionals @ QSI Shenzhen
- Monday, 19 Jan:Performance poet Luka Lesson (MFH 8:30–9:00 AM) (Design Exhibition in the ATRIUM continues until Feb 13)
- Tuesday, 20 Jan: ISMAG Primary SingUp Choral Festival | Open Morning for UISZ parents
- Wednesday, 21 Jan:

Thank you again for all you do to make UISG a remarkable place to learn, grow, and belong. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
감사합니다,

10-Hour Sprint:Building Bots and Bonds for ACAMIS

What an incredible Saturday of preparation! Our dedicated VEX robotics teams spent 10 hours of intensive build time getting ready for ACAMIS regionals, and the energy in the room was absolutely phenomenal. From early morning until evening, students worked with unwavering focus and enthusiasm, fine-tuning their robots, perfecting their autonomous programs, and strategizing for competition scenarios. The determination was palpable as teams collaborated to solve last-minute design challenges, optimize their mechanisms, and run countless practice rounds. Watching these young engineers push through obstacles with such zeal and teamwork was truly inspiring – they didn’t just build robots today, they built confidence, problem-solving skills, and an unbreakable team spirit. Our students had demonstrated the kind of perseverance and passion that will serve them well at ACAMIS regionals. We couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and can’t wait to see them showcase their hard work on the regional stage!

Building Bridges in Early Education:A Joyful Exchange with TKK Penabur

This week, we were honored to welcome a delegation of Principals from TKK Penabur, Jakarta to observe our Early Years program. We shared our passion for play-based and inquiry learning, showcasing the vibrant engagement of our youngest learners. It was a wonderful opportunity to exchange insights, and we are immensely proud of the program we have built. The visit concluded with big smiles and a truly humbling sense of shared purpose in early childhood education.

The Chemical Kitchen:Grade 3’s Hands-On Journey into ‘How The World Works’

Our Grade 3 students recently completed an exciting scientific investigation as part of their Unit of Inquiry: “How The World Works,” conducting two hands-on experiments that showcase our commitment to inquiry-based, cross-curricular learning. Students observed how yeast comes alive when mixed with sugar and warm water, followed by investigating how vinegar transforms heated milk into solid paneer cheese, developing a clear understanding of chemical, irreversible changes in materials. Throughout these investigations, students used strong scientific thinking by making predictions and drawing conclusions based on their observations, while also strengthening their math skills through careful measurement of temperature and size changes, and building their English skills by using scientific vocabulary in detailed, labeled diagrams and written explanations. This hands-on approach not only developed critical thinking skills but also created meaningful connections between classroom learning and real-world experiences, ensuring our students build both academic success and genuine curiosity about the scientific principles they see in everyday life.

Energy in Action in Grade 5!

Our Grade 5 scientists have been powering up their ‘How the World Works’ Unit of Inquiry! Through a hands-on provocation, they designed and built their own simple machines in the classroom. The real excitement came when we took our prototypes outside to test them in the open air—launching, lifting, and rolling with real-world forces! It was incredible to see their designs in action, troubleshooting in real-time, and feeling the energy transformations firsthand. A perfect example of learning that extends beyond four walls!

Design in Action:Celebrating Student Creativity at UISG

MYP 디자인 1학기
This month MYP students are exhibiting the work they have completed in their Semester 1 Design units. G6 students are displaying their bridges which demonstrate their understanding of mechanics and how to use tools and materials to safely create models. G7 students are showing their 3D printed jewelry designs showing off their newly developed ability to create 3D models using a CAD program. G8 students shared their idea development sketches for their Design for Play unit in which they learned to develop ideas for play products which meet the need(s) of a specific target audience. G9 students are presenting their redesigns of spaces within our school campus which includes a hand drawn floor plan, and a physical scale architectural model. G10 students are exhibiting their prototypes for products which promote well-being which visiting classes have been invited to try out for themselves. In addition visual arts students are showcasing their self-portraits and the International Mother Tongue Day photo contest submissions will also be set up for viewing. The 6 week Design exhibition showcases the creativity our students are developing in Secondary at UISG!

From Campus to Stage:UISG Bands Rock the ISMAG Festival

ISMAG Rock Fest was a vibrant rock music festival featuring student bands from international schools across Guangzhou, hosted at The Goat in Panyu. Utahloy International School Guangzhou showcased a dynamic lineup of bands ranging from pop and punk rock to classic rock and grunge, each demonstrating impressive musicianship and stage confidence. The performances were so polished that many passersby assumed the concert featured professional musicians. UISG students also stood out for their exceptional energy and enthusiasm as audience members. The festival celebrated student bravery, creativity, and the joy of live music.
Charting Your Path:Inside UISG’s DP Course Selections

Choosing the right subjects in the Diploma Programme is never an easy feat. It can take weeks or months for students and families to come to an informed decision. To help with that process, we brought in the whole team of teachers this year for the biggest information session ever at UISG! The DP Coordinator, 카일 그레이, and the University Counselor, 예인 오 spoke to students and parents about the requirements for DP, scheduling combinations, and university guidance – all of which play an important role in making sure each student has the bespoke combination of classes that leads to their success. Afterwards, students and parents met their teachers in small groups to learn about all of the options we have available. We are lucky at UISG to have the widest available array of subjects in our DP network – with more choices than any other international school in Guangzhou! For the next three weeks, Mr. Gray and Mrs. Oh will have private meetings with each family to decide which courses are the best fit. We hope the Class of 2028 feels informed and ready for this big leap into the DP!

UISG Honored to Host the 2026
ACAMIS College Counseling Workshop

Utahloy International School Guangzhou has been selected as the host institution for the ACAMIS College Counseling Workshop — a distinguished professional development gathering for counselors, administrators, and educators across the region. This two-day intensive workshop, titled “From Waitlists to What’s Next: Spring Challenges in Global University Admissions & Who Really Gets into US Colleges and Universities,” is designed to equip school teams with the insights, strategies, and confidence needed to guide students through the critical final stages of the admissions cycle.
