Exploring Xiamen, Inspiring Futures

Recently, DSE students from Utahloy International School Zengcheng embarked on a two-day study trip to Xiamen. More than just a field trip, it was a journey of growth that combined university visits, cultural immersion, friendship exchanges, and historical exploration.

Day 1
Prestigious University & Cultural Heritage

Visiting Xiamen University

The first stop was Xiamen University, often regarded as one of the most beautiful campuses in China. Strolling by Furong Lake and passing through the historic Qunxian building complex, students immersed themselves in the profound academic atmosphere and cultural heritage of this prestigious institution. Sharing sessions with current university students further ignited their aspirations for higher education and planted seeds of ambition.

Immersing in Minnan Culture

In the afternoon, the students visited “Yujian Minnan · Time Mirage,” an immersive cultural experience showcasing the Minnan (Southern Fujian) heritage. Through light-shadow technology and live scenes, they gained a vivid understanding of local customs, folk arts, and traditions. From ancient red-brick houses to the melodious Nanyin music, students appreciated the unique charm of Minnan culture.

Day 2
Friendship Competition & Historical Exploration

Basketball Friendship Match

On the second day, students visited our sister school, Chiway Repton School Xiamen, for an energetic basketball friendship match. The competition, teamwork, and post-game interactions not only strengthened their physical fitness but also fostered deeper bonds and cultural exchange between the two school communities.

Strolling Gulangyu & Visiting Zheng He Memorial Hal

n the afternoon, the group set foot on Gulangyu, known as the “Garden on the Sea.” Wandering among historical buildings blending Eastern and Western architectures, they experienced Xiamen’s unique coastal charm and artistic vibe. At the Zheng He Memorial Hall, students learned about the legendary voyages of the ancient navigator, reflecting on Xiamen’s historical role as a key hub of the Maritime Silk Road—where past and present gracefully converge.

Conclusion

This study trip allowed students to learn through exploration and grow through experiences. From academic inspiration and cultural appreciation to building friendships and historical reflection, each moment has broadened their horizons and enriched their minds.
