I hope this message finds you well! What a joyful and busy week we’ve had, full of learning, growth, and meaningful moments. I’m so proud of our students and grateful for your continued partnership. Here’s what’s been happening and what’s ahead:
This Week’s Updates
· MAP Growth Assessment: Our K3 – Grade 5 students completed their fall MAP Growth assessments this week. These adaptive tests help us understand each child’s academic progress in reading, language usage, and math. This first assessment helps us understand each child’s current level within their grade, so we can celebrate where they are and thoughtfully design personalized learning goals to support their growth in reading and math. Thank you for ensuring your children arrived rested and ready. Your support makes all the difference!
· Reading Program: Our literacy instruction is thriving with the Readers Workshop model as part of our Balanced Literacyapproach. Students are diving into engaging texts, building stamina, and practicing key reading strategies like predicting, visualizing, and making connections. Teachers -are guiding small-group and one-on-one conferences to support each child’s journey as a confident, thoughtful reader. It’s wonderful to see so many students not only improving their skills but also falling in love with stories!
-Digital Books: Great news! Our online digital library is now live. Students can access high-interest, leveled books from home or school using Epic! and RazKids. Login details were shared via ManageBac.
-Student’s Library Book Checkout: Starting this week, students have begun visiting the library to choose their perfect books, what a joy it is to see their excitement and independence as they explore our collection!
Each week, students can check out:
· 2 books in English
· 2 books in Chinese
· 2 books in Korean (optional)
To keep the joy of reading going, we kindly ask that students bring their books back when they return to the library so they can check out new ones. This helps everyone have fresh stories to enjoy and builds responsibility and reading habits. Please encourage your child to keep their library books safe and ready for return. Happy reading!
-Open Library for Parents: We’re so happy to open our library doors to you! Parents are warmly welcome to visit the library and check out books for your children. Whether you’re looking for bedtime stories, nonfiction reads, or bilingual books to support home reading, we have something for every young reader. You can borrow up to 10 books per child, and all books will be checked out under your child’s name for easy tracking. This is a wonderful way to build a reading routine at home and explore stories together. The library will be open for you every day during Period 6. We invite you to stop by, explore the collection, and check out books to bring the joy of reading home!
Week Ahead
Dates to remember:
· Progress Report Cards: On September 25th, your child’s first report card of the year will be shared digitally via ManageBac. These reflect not only academic progress but also attitudes to learning, and personal growth. Please take time to celebrate their journey with them.
· Celebrations of Learning: On September 26th, we will have our September Student Awards and Unit 1 Celebration of Learning. This special day is not only a time to celebrate our students’ achievements and award their efforts, but also a joyful opportunity for them to showcase what they’ve learned throughout the unit.
· EAL Coffee Morning: On September 26th, join us for a warm gathering focused on our EAL (English as an Additional Language) program! This month, we’ll share insights into how our EAL program supports students across the grades, highlight recent improvements, and offer practical ways you can support your child’s language development at home.
· ECAs: On Wednesday, families received the ECA Interest Survey. Thank you for your prompt responses so far! This survey helps us understand your child’s interests and allows us to organize the most engaging and well-balanced program for this term. We kindly ask that all families complete the survey by Monday so we can finalize our planning.
Next week, you will receive instructions to create or access your SchoolsBuddy account, which will be our main platform for ECA communication, schedules, and enrollment. Shortly after, we will send the ECA registration link via ManageBac, where you will officially sign up your child for their selected activity. We’re excited to offer a vibrant range of ECAs that support curiosity, creativity, and connection beyond the classroom!

Dear DSE Families,
We hope this message finds you well. It has been another busy and productive week at school. Here’s a recap of what we’ve been up to and a preview of what’s coming next week.
Highlights of the Past Week
1. Week Without Walls Orientation
We successfully kicked off our orientation for the upcoming Week Without Walls! This program is a cornerstone of our approach to holistic education, and we are excited for the experiences it will offer our students. The key benefits we focus on are:
* Experiential Learning: Moving beyond the traditional classroom to provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences.
* Curriculum Linked: All activities are carefully designed to connect with and enhance our academic curriculum.
* Personal Growth: Students develop resilience, teamwork, and independence in a supportive environment.

2. ManageBac Training for Teachers and Students
To ensure a smooth and effective academic year, both teachers and students completed a second round of training for our learning management platform, ManageBac. This is a crucial step in helping everyone navigate the system for tracking assignments, deadlines, and curriculum updates.

3. Helping Students Stay Energized for Learning
We have noticed that a number of students have been unusually drowsy or have fallen asleep during daytime classes. We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing electronic devices usage and healthy sleep routines at home to ensure our students are well-rested and ready to learn each day.
The Week Ahead
1. First Volleyball & Soccer Games of the Season
The ACAMIS athletic season is upon us! We are excited to announce that our teams will be playing their first official volleyball and soccer matches next week. Let’s cheer on our athletes!

2. Full Implementation of ManageBac & Parent Training
Next week, we will fully implement the use of ManageBac for all student assignments and coursework. To help you stay informed about your child’s progress, we will be organizing a dedicated parent training session on how to use ManageBac effectively. This will allow you to see detailed information about assignments, grades, and school announcements. Please look out for a separate email with the date and time for this important session.
3. Strengthening Device Management
In collaboration with Mr. Mostafa, we will be reinforcing our school policies on the appropriate use of electronic devices during school hours. Our goal is to minimize distractions and ensure that technology is used purposefully to enhance learning.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we can ensure a successful and enriching year for your children.
