On Wednesday, November 15, we will receive the visit of Mrs Adele Hodgson and Dr Michael Wylie, Education Consultants for the Utahloy Education Foundation. They will meet with various groups of students, parents, employees, and leaders of the school to help determine the strategy of our below institution for the following five years. A group of parents, representing all aspects and backgrounds of our school, will be invited to take part of the discussions. The parents’ consultation meeting will be held at school from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

There will be no class in session on Thursday and Friday, November 16 and 17, as our teachers and staff are becoming students for two days!!! Please note once again that buses will depart at 3:45 pm on Wednesday afternoon and that ECA will not take place on that day so that our boarders get trip return home without heavy traffic.

PYP 国际文凭小学课程 초등교육과정
We are excited to share with you the importance of technology in education and how our school is making positive strides in integrating technology into the IB PYP program. In a rapidly evolving world, technology plays a crucial role in preparing our students for the future.
A recent article from Harvard University titled “Connection Over Content: A New Era for Education Technology”1 highlights the transformative power of technology in education. It emphasizes the shift from focusing solely on content delivery to fostering meaningful connections and engagement among students. At UISZC, the PYP Program wholeheartedly embraces this approach.
We are proud to highlight some splendid examples of technological integration happening within our PYP program during this week. In Year 4, students under the guidance of Mr. Nicholas Heymans are using iPads to engage in fun coding activities. Coding is not just about learning a programming language; it develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. By introducing coding at an early age, we empower our students to become active creators and innovators in the digital world.
In Year 5 French class with Mr. Joris Liger, students have been utilizing ChatGPT, an AI-powered tool, to practice their French language skills. Through interactive conversations, students can ask and respond to simple questions in French. Additionally, Mr. Joris is working with the students to create an online board game where they can practice their French vocabulary and sentence construction. This innovative approach to language learning enhances engagement and provides an immersive experience for our students.
Another exciting integration of technology is happening in the integrated project between Year 2 and Year 3 students during Writer’s Workshop. As part of their narrative unit, students have been exploring character analysis. They have crafted their own superheroes who will be the main characters in their upcoming narrative books. To bring these characters to life, students have utilized artificial intelligence (AI) to generate visual representations of their superheroes. This integration of AI sparks creativity and imagination, while also reinforcing the connection between technology and storytelling.
We are thrilled to see our students actively engaged in these technology-rich learning experiences. In the UISZC PYP Program, we are committed to continuing our journey of integrating technology into our curriculum. By doing so, we equip our students with the skills and competencies necessary to thrive in a digital world.

MYP 国际文凭中学课程 중등교육과정
In MYP 1 classroom, students have transitioned from designing carnival attraction models to actively constructing them using various materials and techniques. They have completed the design phase and are now focused on selecting materials, practicing safety precautions, and engaging in hands-on construction. Throughout this process, students collaborate in pairs or groups, problem-solve when challenges arise, and seek guidance from their teacher. Periodic progress updates and testing of functionality and aesthetics ensure that their creations meet their intended purposes. The project culminates with a classroom carnival event, allowing students to showcase their creativity, craftsmanship, and practical application of classroom knowledge.
In MYP 4, students are designing sustainable house models. The curriculum encompasses topics such as sustainable design principles, energy-efficient building systems, and materials. Students will learn how to scale down models of sustainable homes and will be encouraged to think critically about the environmental impact of their designs. The course will culminate in a final project where students will design a sustainable home model that incorporates all the principles they have learned throughout the course.

DP Visual Arts and Figure Drawing
In the artistic process, DP Visual Arts students are exploring the idea of figure drawing and understanding the gestures for artistic benefits. Candidates follow the wooden small mannequins to learn and practice the figure drawings. Multiple methods were applied for effective outcomes like visualizing gestures, using self-clicked pictures, proportions, execution, careful execution in the art file, etc. Learning figure drawing from Keith Haring, Alberto Giacometti, and Henri Matisse for stylistic development was practiced. In the process, students will also apply the psychological and philosophical dynamics for creative expressions.

HKDSE 香港中学文凭课程 홍콩 중등교육과정 프로그램
The HKDSE examination for the year 2024 will kick off in April next year. Currently, year 12 DSE students are preparing for that exam diligently. In the Chinese language course, students have a detailed understanding of the requirements, assessment criteria and response strategies for Paper 2 (Writing), both Section A and Section B. They have organized relevant knowledge by drawing mind maps and reinforced their learning by writing articles. They also carefully studied some model essays that achieved the highest grade of 5**. Moreover, students learned about two poetries of the Yuan dynasty – Bai Pu’s “Intoxicated by the East Wind: Fisherman’s Poem” and Guan Hanqing’s “Four Pieces of Jade: Leisurely”. Students analyzed the characteristics and techniques of the Yuan poetry, and drew inspiration from these works to embrace a spirit of placid and open-minded. In addition to academic achievements, we also highly value students’wellbeing. Therefore, during the Chinese language ECA, students also practice yoga sometimes. We hope that everyone can have a healthy body and a joyful heart while working hard in their studies.
2024年HKDSE大考将于明年四月拉开帷幕。当前，DSE 2的同学们正在紧锣密鼓地准备着。近期，在中国语文课程中，同学们详细了解了试卷二（写作卷）甲部及乙部的作答要求、评估标准及应答策略，并通过绘制思维导图的方式来梳理知识，通过撰写文章来巩固所学。大家还仔细研读了一些获得5**（最高等级）的范文，取长补短。此外，同学们还学习了两首元曲——白朴的《沉醉东风·渔父词》以及关汉卿的《四块玉·闲适》。大家从这两首曲作中管中窥豹，分析了元曲的体裁特色及表现手法，并从作品中汲取淡泊、旷达的精神力量。除了学术成绩之外，我们还十分重视孩子的身心健康。因此，在语文ECA之时，同学们还时常练习瑜伽。希望大家在努力学习的同时，也能拥有一个健康的体魄以及一颗愉悦之心。

Dear Families,
I hope this update finds you well. As we approach the end of another exciting week at our beloved school, I would like to take a moment to share some important announcements and celebrations with you.
Firstly, I kindly remind you that boarding students should not bring any food items to campus. We have a wonderful canteen, the Lychee Restaurant, which provides all our meals. This policy helps us ensure the safety and well-being of all our students.
Secondly, I would like to remind you that the students must only bring the allowed amount of devices to school and hand them in at the designated times. This helps maintain a focused, productive learning environment and ensures our students are getting enough sleep. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Another important reminder is regarding the school uniform. Please ensure that your child has enough school uniform and remind them they are required to wear it correctly, as it promotes a sense of unity and pride within our school community.
Finally, if your child needs to leave the campus outside of ordinary leave times, we kindly ask you to provide us with written parental permission. Please send all email notifications to zcboarding@uiszc.org This ensures that we can maintain a safe and organized environment for all our students.
Now, let’s move on to the exciting celebrations from the past week. We had an absolutely fantastic boarding BBQ last month, which brought our boarding community together. I want to give a special shoutout to Aaron, Raymond, Popo, Anna, for being outstanding boarders of the month.
Furthermore, our Year 12 students, under the guidance of Dr. Gladys and Ms. Lindsey, organized a phenomenal Halloween event. It was a pleasure to see so many flex boarders join us for trick or treating, a bonfire and marshmallow session, a haunted walk, a scary movie, and even a piñata. Our students and staff truly embraced the Halloween spirit!
Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to all the parents who attended the recent parent-teacher conferences. It was a pleasure meeting and discussing your child’s progress with you. Remember, I am always available for meetings or if you have any concerns. Your continued partnership is greatly appreciated.
