We want to thank all our students-artists and their teachers for their involvement during last Thursday’s Festival of Arts, under the theme Tapestry of Creativity. It was refreshing to see students performing on stage with real instruments, together this year- a premiere, under the vibrant leadership of Ms Stefania. Special thanks also to Mr Justin, Mr Anil, and Mr Jamel for helping their students to display their artistic and talents to their loved one.
We are now two weeks away from the Winter Break with lots to come! Assessment week in secondary, following by diverse celebrations marking the end of this semester.

이제 겨울 방학이 2주 앞으로 다가왔습니다! 중등부 시험 기간이 끝나면 이번 학기의 마지막을 기념하는 다양한 축하 행사가 이어집니다.
Year 6 to 12 trip to Jungle adventure
On Thursday, December 21, students from Year 6 to 12 are cordially invited to travel to the Jungle Adventure Park in Huangpu where they will make their way from trees to trees wearing a harness and a helmet in a perfectly safe environment.

As an international school, we acknowledge and celebrate the cultures, traditions, and celebrations of everyone in our community. December includes many important winter festivals to celebrate around the world, including Sinter Klaas and Christmas.

Our Year 5 teacher, Mr. Koen, is originally from Belgium. In Belgium, children put out their shoes at night for Sinter Klaas to put treats inside. We celebrated this festival in the afternoon on December 6th. Each of the students put their shoes in the hallway for Sinter Klaas to leave a surprise.

Many of our teachers and families also celebrate another winter festival…Christmas. Christmas is a popular winter festival celebrated in many countries and marked by different traditions all over the world. Here at UISZ, Santa Claus will visit campus on December 22nd and go to classes to greet Primary students.

MYP 国际文凭中学课程 중등교육과정
Arts Festival – Film Presentation by Mr Justin (Film teacher)
A 20 minute compilation of best film productions by students in years 6-12 was screened as part of the Arts Festival ‘Tapestry of Creativity’ on Thursday 14th December from 2:00 pm onwards. Tasks featured in the presentation ranged from learning the basics of camera shot sizes in Y6, video editing in Y7, sound editing in Y8, Media Arts e-Portfolio in Y10 and DP Film – Film Portfolio tasks. In addition there is an interview documentary produced in the Media Arts ECA class. Students all ages continue to be excited by the possibilities of film media!

예술 축제 – 저스틴 선생님( 필름 선생님)의 영화 프레젠테이션
12월 14일 목요일 오후 2시부터 예술 축제 ‘창의성의 태피스트리’의 하나로 6-12학년 학생들이 제작한 최고의 영화 작품을 20분간 편집하여 상영했습니다. 6학년의 카메라 샷 사이즈의 기초 학습, 7학년의 비디오 편집, 8학년의 사운드 편집, 10학년의 미디어 아트 e-포트폴리오, DP 필름 – 영화 포트폴리오 과제 등 다양한 과제들이 발표되었습니다. 또한 미디어 아트 ECA 수업에서는 인터뷰 다큐멘터리를 제작했습니다. 모든 연령대의 학생들이 영화 미디어의 가능성에 계속해서 흥미를 느끼고 있습니다!
DP 国际文凭大学预科课程 디플로마 과정
In their DP Biology class, Year 11 students have been studying the significance of osmolarity in cells and tissues, and how it relates to real-world situations where patients receive help in hospitals through in vitro solutions. Although it may seem like an unimportant fact, understanding this concept is crucial to our health, and not knowing it could even be fatal in some cases. To better comprehend the complex concept of transport across membranes, the students conducted an experiment where they submerged plant tissues in different glucose concentrations. Through the analysis of the results, students obtained insights into how osmolarity affects the nature of cells. Additionally, they practiced their IA skills by evaluating the validity of their hypotheses and methods and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the experiment.

Last week we completed the explanation of the third classical Chinese text “Teacher’s Theory” and arranged mock exams. During this period, we also conducted corresponding argumentative essay writing examinations for argumentative essay writing. On Friday, the students completed a group activity – making a poster about “Introducing a Favorite Chinese Book”. The students were eager to try and participated enthusiastically. The works of each group were completed wonderfully!
前景回顾：
上一周我们完成了第三篇文言文《师说》的讲解，并安排了模拟试题考试。期间我们针对议论文写作也做了相应的议论文专题写作考试。在周五的时候，同学们分小组完成了小组活动——制作一份poster关于“介绍一本最喜欢的中文书籍”。同学们跃跃欲试，踊跃参与，每个小组的作品完成得相当精彩！
지난 이야기 : 지난 주에는 세 번째 중국어 고전 텍스트 “교사론”의 해설을 완료하고 모의고사를 준비했습니다. 이 기간 동안 우리는 또한 논증 에세이 쓰기를 위한 논증 에세이 쓰기 시험을 실시했습니다. 금요일에는 학생들이 ‘좋아하는 중국어 책 소개’를 주제로 포스터를 만드는 조별 활동을 마쳤습니다. 학생들은 열심히 노력하며 열정적으로 참여했습니다. 각 조의 작품이 멋지게 완성되었습니다!
This week:
We need to complete the revision of last week’s exam content, including the classical Chinese and composition sections. The after-school exercises for the weekend homework “Teacher’s Talk” also need to be explained and revised. In order to help students consolidate their knowledge of classical Chinese and prepare for next week’s final exam, I arranged a “DIY test paper” session on Thursday and Friday. Each student has to write a test paper based on the
three classical Chinese texts we have studied. There are a total of thirteen questions, and each question type must be covered. On Friday, the teacher randomly arranged for different students to complete test papers that were not their own, and gave grades to students who completed their own test papers. I hope it can help students deepen their memory of the classical Chinese texts specified in the class.
Finally, DSE Chinese learning has a long way to go, and I hope the students can work hard and strive for the top!

我们需要完成上周考试内容的订正，包括文言文和作文部分。针对周末作业《师说》的课后练习题部分也需要讲解和订正。为了帮助同学们巩固文言文知识，以应对下周的期末考试，在周四和周五我安排了“DIY试卷”环节。每个同学都要针对我们学习过的三篇文言文出一份试卷，一共十三道题，每一种题型都要涉及。在周五的时候老师任意安排不同的学生完成不是自己的试卷，并给完成自己试卷的同学打分。希望能帮助同学们加深对课内指定文言文的记忆。

1. Our upcoming Christmas event on the 21st of December promises to be a delightful experience for everyone. We welcome Flex boarder applications for a delicious barbeque, Christmas movie, cookie decorating, and card making. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate together and get into the festive spirit.

2. We are excited to announce a new initiative aimed at improving the management and safety of devices in the boarding house. Starting next month, we will be implementing a device labelling system using a label maker.

Each of your child’s devices will be assigned a unique sticker label. This labelling system will allow us to effectively track and manage the devices, ensuring they are handed in at the appropriate times. Additionally, in the event of a missing device, the label will make it easier for us to identify and locate it.

1. Foshan Culture Week Event: Our seven-day boarders had a fantastic outing this weekend at the Foshan Culture Week Event. They enjoyed a wide range of cultural activities. It was a great opportunity for them to learn and appreciate different cultures

2. Academics: We have recently moved our students to improved study lab venues in the boarding house. This will provide them with a better environment to focus on their upcoming summative assessments and end-of-term work. We focused on stress management strategies in our house meeting this week, including getting enough sleep, eating healthily and getting exercise. We encourage students to make good use of these facilities and seek support from staff when needed.

Our boarding team continues to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students. We are grateful for the dedicated staff who ensure that our student’s needs are met and that they have access to various activities. Students have been using their free time wisely by utilizing the indoor and outdoor gym for exercise in the evenings.
