INTRO
We are thrilled to announce that the graduation of our Class of 2025 is just around the corner, taking place next week! This milestone event marks the beginning of a new chapter for our students as they embark on their “New Beginnings.”
As we approach the end of the academic year, April and May serve as critical months for us to gather and analyze data on student growth and learning. In April, we successfully completed the MAP assessments for grades K3 through Year 10. Currently, we are in the process of concluding our WIDA testing, aimed at assessing the growth of our English language learners.
Our staff diligently analyzes this data to guide our program development and better address the individual learning needs of each student. By triangulating information from these assessments with internal evaluations and observations, we enhance our understanding of how to effectively support every learner.
May is also recognized as Mental Health Month, emphasizing the importance of self-care for both students and staff. It is crucial to prioritize mental well-being during this busy time of year. Encouraging practices such as mindfulness, regular physical activity, and open conversations about feelings can foster a supportive environment. By taking care of our mental health, we create a foundation that allows everyone in our community to thrive.

PYP
Early Years students are learning the “Three Character Classic” and the associated anecdotes within it, such as “Meng Mu San Qian”, “Zhou Chu Gai Guo”, and “Dou Yan Shan”. Through these stories, children are taught the importance of cultivating good character and developing positive learning habits.
Our Year3 students are currently engaged in a “My Relatives” topic in Chinese. Given that students’ relatives are now distributed across a wide range of geographical areas, geographic knowledge is being integrated into this theme.
During the teaching process, using world maps, students learn about the locations and characteristics of the seven continents and four oceans, which helps them establish a concept of global geographical space. Subsequently, they are guided to locate, based on their actual situations, the countries where their relatives reside on the maps.
This process enabled students to connect geographic knowledge with real – life experiences. The relatives who once seemed distant became more approachable due to their presence on the maps, thus narrowing the psychological distance. The activity achieved the integration of multiple disciplines, cultivating students’ comprehensive literacy and global awareness.
MYP
In French Language Acquisition, In our current unit in Y6, “Ma personalité” (My personality) we have learnt how to describe ourselves and our including also physical appearance and clothes. Y6 have been using an AI image generator to practice their newly acquired communication skills and imagine their ideal outfit and create an online fashion book.
Year 7 are very open minded in our current unit “Ma ville” (My city). They are learning about typical French cities such as Paris, Strasbourg, Marseille and Lyon. They are discussing the advantages and inconvenien of living in a city. They can also guide you through the city of Paris and ask for directions for your future trip in France!
Year 8/9 are communicators also. They are spreading awareness about sensible topics such as protecting the environment. They have prepared some posters in French about their daily actions to preserve nature.
In Year 10, we are principled. We are discovering how to talk about our mental and physical health in our unit “ma santé (My health). They are able to communicate about their own well-being in French and give recommendations to their friends and family on how to keep a healthy lifestyle in French!
DP
This week has been a busy and productive time for the Math Department. DP 1 students have commenced writing their drafts for their mathematics exploration projects following the approval of their proposals by their math teachers. This marks an important step in their exploration process as they delve into their chosen mathematical topics.
In addition to their exploration drafts, DP 1 students are also preparing for their upcoming summative assessment, which is scheduled to take place in a few weeks. The focus on both their explorations and assessments indicates a strong commitment to mastering the material.
Y11 English B is currently looking into a ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit where they are exploring how Britain’s colonial past impacts international relations in the present. As part of this work, they are exploring the disputed artefacts at the British Museum and the different views around what should happen next in relation to their ownership. They are also working on practicing their speaking internal process by making presentations. For Higher Level students this means creating a speech based on an extract from one of our novels. Standard Level students are using images to create a speech linked to themes from our learning.
Meanwhile, DP 2 students are engaged in their final IB Diploma Programme exams. They are actively collaborating with their math teachers, seeking guidance and clarification on challenging areas as they navigate this crucial phase. The teamwork between students and teachers is fostering a supportive environment, ensuring that all students feel prepared and confident as they complete their exams.
Overall, the department is witnessing significant engagement from both year groups, with an emphasis on collaboration and academic support as students progress through their respective stages of the program.
HKDSE
In this week’s DSE math class, we learned the mathematical concept of permutation. Permutation considers order, while combination does not consider order. Permutation and combination are a module in mathematics that attaches equal importance to logic and practicality. It requires the combination of concept discrimination, formula memorization and many practices to flexibly deal with complex problems.
This week we used the following learning methods:
Understand the essence: Understand the meaning of permutations and combinations through practical problems (such as passwords, lotteries, and grouping).
Practice more comprehensive questions: Combine knowledge of probability, equations, etc. to enhance the ability of comprehensive application.
Summarize the question type templates solutions to common question types such as “at least one”, “at most one”, and “adjacent problems”.
Make good use of tools: Learn to use a calculator to calculate factorials and combinations to save time.

随着学年接近尾声，四月和五月对我们来说是收集和分析学生成长与学习数据的关键月份。四月，我们顺利完成了 K3 至十年级的 MAP 测评。

五月，也被认定为“心理健康月”，是一个强调重视同学们和教职员工们都关爱自己的月份。在一年中这个繁忙的时期，优先考虑心理健康至关重要。
我们鼓励如正念、规律的体育活动以及坦诚交流感受等做法，从而营造一个支持性的环境。通过照顾好我们的心理健康，我们才能为社区中每个人的茁壮成长奠定基础。

国际文凭小学课程
幼儿园的小朋友在学习《三字经》以及《三字经》里面的典故。比如《孟母三迁》《周处改过》和《窦燕山》等故事。
通过故事让孩子们懂得培养良好品德和良好的学习习惯的重要性。
三年级非母语班的中文课目前正开展“我的亲戚”主题学习。当下学生亲戚分布地域广泛，因此将地理知识与主题结合。
教学中，通过世界地图，学生了解七大洲、四大洋位置与特征，助其构建世界地理空间概念。随后，引导学生结合实际，在地图上定位亲戚所在国家。
这一过程让学生将地理知识与生活相连，原本遥远的亲戚因地图标注更具亲切感，拉近了心理距离。
活动实现了多学科知识融合，培养了学生综合素养与全球意识。
国际文凭中学课程
在法语学习中，六年级通过学习这个单元——“我的个性”，他们学习了如何描述自己，包括描述外貌和穿着。
六年班一直在使用人工智能图像生成器来练习他们新学到的交流技巧，他们想象着理想的服装，并制作一本在线时尚画册。
在我们当前的单元“Ma ville （我的城市）”中，七年级的同学们“思想开阔”。他们正在学习诸如巴黎、斯特拉斯堡、马赛和里昂等典型的法国城市，并讨论了住在城市里的优点和缺点。他们还能为您介绍巴黎这座城市，并为您未来在法国的旅行指路呢！
八年级和九年级的同学们也是“沟通者“。他们正在宣传一些有意义的话题，比如保护环境。他们还用法语制作了一些海报，展示他们日常生活中的一些保护自然的行动。
在十年级，我们是“有原则的”。在“我的健康”这一单元中，我们正在学习如何用法语谈论自己的身心健康。他们能够用法语交流健康状况，还可以用法语给朋友和家人提出保持健康生活方式的建议！
国际文凭大学预科课程
这个星期对于数学班而言是忙碌且富有成效的一周。DP一年级的同学们在数学老师通过了他们的提案后，就开始着手撰写数学探究项目的初稿。
这标志着他们在探究过程中迈出了重要的一步，因为他们即将开始深入研究自己选定的数学课题。
除了探索项目初稿，同学们也在为几周后即将进行的总结性评估做准备。同学们对探索和评估的重视，表示出他们对掌握所学内容的坚定决心。
与此同时，DP二年级的同学们正在参加国际文凭课程的期末考试。他们非常踊跃地与数学老师互动，为遇到的难题向老师寻求指导和解释，顺利地度过了这个关键阶段。
同学们和老师们之间的团队合作营造了一个支持性的环境，确保所有同学在完成考试的时候都感到胸有成竹且充满信心。
总的而言，两个年级的同学们都表现出了非常高的参与度，随着他们各自课程阶段的推进，合作精神和学术支持也愈发重要。
香港中学文凭课程
这周的DSE数学课，我们在学习数学概念——排列，排列是考虑顺序的，而组合则不考虑顺序。排列组合是数学中逻辑性与实用性并重的模块，需通过概念辨析、公式记忆与大量实践结合，才能灵活应对复杂问题。
我们运用了以下的学习方法：
理解本质：通过实际问题（如密码、抽奖、分组）理解排列组合的意义。

학기말이 다가오는 4월과 5월은 학생들의 성장과 학습에 관한 데이터를 수집하고 분석하는 중요한 달입니다. 4월에는 3학년부터 10학년까지의 MAP 평가를 성공적으로 완료했습니다. 현재는 영어 학습자의 성장을 평가하기 위한 WIDA 시험을 마무리하는 과정에 있습니다.
저희 교직원들은 이 데이터를 부지런히 분석하여 프로그램 개발을 안내하고 각 학생의 개별 학습 요구를 더 잘 해결할 것입니다.
이러한 평가의 정보를 내부 평가 및 관찰과 함께 분석함으로써 모든 학습자를 효과적으로 지원할 수 있는 방법에 대한 이해를 높일 수 있습니다.
또한 5월은 정신 건강의 달로 학생과 교직원 모두에게 자기 관리의 중요성을 강조하고 싶습니다. 바쁜 시기인 만큼 정신 건강을 챙기는 것이 중요합니다. 마음 챙김, 규칙적인 신체 활동, 감정에 대한 열린 대화와 같은 실천을 장려하면 서로를 지지하는 환경을 조성할 수 있습니다. 정신 건강을 돌봄으로써 우리는 커뮤니티의 모든 구성원이 성장할 수 있는 토대를 마련할 수 있습니다.

초등교육과정
유치원 학생들은 ‘맹무산천’, ‘주추개과’, ‘도연산’ 등 ‘삼인성 고전’과 그 안에 담긴 일화를 배우고 있습니다. 이러한 이야기를 통해 아이들은 올바른 인성을 함양하고 긍정적인 학습 습관을 기르는 것이 중요하다는 것을 배웁니다.
Year3 학생들은 현재 중국어로 ‘나의 친척’이라는 주제를 공부하고 있습니다. 학생들의 친척이 다양한 지역에 분포되어 있기 때문에 지리적 지식이 이 주제에 통합되고 있습니다.
교육 과정에서 학생들은 세계 지도를 사용하여 7대륙과 4대양의 위치와 특징에 대해 배우며 세계 지리적 공간에 대한 개념을 확립할 수 있습니다. 그런 다음 실제 상황을 바탕으로 친척이 거주하는 국가를 지도에서 찾아보도록 안내합니다.
이 과정을 통해 학생들은 지리적 지식을 실제 경험과 연결할 수 있었습니다. 멀게만 느껴졌던 친척들이 지도 위에 나타나면서 심리적 거리가 좁혀져 더욱 친근하게 다가올 수 있었습니다.
