Many moments stood out. At lunchtime, a student said, “I am eating balanced food.” In math, a student said, “These two triangles make a rhombus.” Both showed students speaking and thinking like learners.

How long did it take a transfer student to go from “stranger” to “confident”? What happened?

It depends on the student and the family’s support. We pair the new student with a buddy for a week to learn routines and meet classmates. Teachers also check in by test over the next weeks to see how to help. With this support, many students become confident quickly.
这取决于学生自身以及家庭的支持。我们会为新生安排为期一周的同伴结对活动,帮助他们熟悉校园生活并结识同学。在接下来的几周里,教师也会通过测试进行跟进,以确定如何提供帮助。在这样的支持下,许多学生很快就能建立自信。

All the PD sessions were useful. Some reinforced what we do; others gave ideas to try. I used strategies from several sessions during the year.

When a lesson didn’t work, colleagues and coordinators met to discuss what happened. We shared ideas and built two new, improved versions of the lesson. Collaboration helped us turn a struggle into a better teaching and learning experience.
