We hope that everyone is prepared for a cosy weekend inside. We are still looking forward to seeing all of you this coming Friday for our annual community event. Meanwhile, we have our ECA’s starting this Monday, as well as our Study Labs with teachers.
Parents handbook
On Thursday, August 31st, all parents and students have received a copy of the 2023-2024 Parent-Student Handbook via email and ManageBac. We kindly request all parents to:
1: Read/review the handbook
2: Acknowledge its reception via the link provided in the email of the QR code.
Extracurricular activities
Please note that our extracurricular activities programme starts this Monday, September 4th. Don’t forget to enroll your child for an extra hour of fun! We have divided our ECA year in 5 seasons this academic year to provide more breathing room for the little ones and more choices for the entire community.
Device Usage
You may be aware that several countries have adopted stricter control of students’ screen time, our host country being one of them. To help us achieve a reasonable amount of screen time in our student body. We have consequently come to the conclusion to restrict the use of devices that are not included in our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. For example, mobile devices are not to be seen during school hours at school for all our students.
To help us achieve our goals, you are invited to complete a survey (QR code and link below) that will help us better monitor your child’s screen time.

如您所知，一些国家对学生的屏幕时间采取了更严格的控制，我们的东道国就是其中之一。为了促进学生们使用屏幕的时间达到合理标准，因此，我们决定限制使用不包括在我们的自带设备政策(BYOD)中的设备。例如：我们所有的学生都不能在上课时间使用移动设备。
为了帮助我们实现这一目标，我们邀请您完成一项调查(二维码及下方链接)，这将帮助我们更好地监督您孩子的屏幕使用时间。

방과후 과외활동
방과 후 활동 프로그램이 이번 주 월요일인 9월 4일에 시작됩니다. 자녀가 한 시간 더 즐거운 시간을 보낼 수 있도록 등록하는 것을 잊지 마세요! 이번 학년도에는 어린이들에게 더 많은 여유를 제공하고 전체 커뮤니티에 더 많은 선택권을 제공하기 위해 5개의 시즌으로 나누어 ECA 프로그램을 운영합니다.
전자 기기 사용
여러 국가에서 학생들의 스크린 타임을 더 엄격하게 통제하고 있으며, 중국도 그중 하나라는 사실을 알고 계실 것입니다. 이에 따라 저희는 학생들의 스크린 사용 시간을 합리적으로 관리하기 위해 다음과 같이 결정했습니다. 이에 따라 저희는 개인 기기 가져오기(BYOD) 정책에 포함되지 않은 기기의 사용을 제한하기로 결론을 내렸습니다. 예를 들어, 모든 학생은 학교에서 수업 시간 동안 모바일 기기를 사용할 수 없습니다.

Take it Easy
K3-Y1 class has been inquiring about making choices in their first Unit of Inquiry—Who we are. In the beginning of the school year, it is normal for students to get tired adjusting to the new schedule, struggle to adapt to the change of the new environment, or even get upset with anything. As a class, the students made choices on how to regulate themselves or refresh their brains while at school learning. It was nice to see how they would help each other up even in these early days of the school year.

K3-Y1 학급은 첫 번째 탐구 단원인 ‘우리는 누구인가’에서 선택에 대해 탐구하고 있습니다. 학기 초에는 학생들이 새로운 일정에 적응하느라 피곤하거나 새로운 환경의 변화에 적응하지 못하거나 때로는 화를 내기도 하는 것이 정상입니다. 학생들은 학급에서 스스로를 조절하거나 학교 학습을 하면서 두뇌를 재충전할 수 있는 방법을 선택했습니다. 학기 초임에도 불구하고 서로를 도와주는 모습이 보기 좋았습니다.
The class wanted to share to others their discoveries about some regulation strategies they have learned these past two weeks. In this week’s primary assembly, they were excited to put on their cute animal costumes and encouraged everyone to dance with them for a refreshing warm up. Through a video, they showed them how to be mindful of others who might just need a tap on the shoulder and say, “Take it easy.”
During the assembly, teachers and students shared ways on how they would calm down under the pressure of each day. We all got to learn various ways to relax or calm down that day. Finally, the best part of the assembly was creating a cute project—the “Calm Down Bottle.” Each student got to carefully choose their preferred fillings to complete their projects. In the end, students got to keep and cherish the pretty “Calm Down Bottles” they created—as if these were their treasures.

Last week, students in the MYP Korean Language and Literature class reviewed the IB Learner Profile and discussed their current strengths as learners and areas for growth. As a result, they created a learner profile tree, where their names were written on yellow leaves that will be moved to green leaves through their personal development.
Y6 and Y7 students began their first unit on the theme of “Heroes.” Before examining heroes portrayed in literary works, they reflected on the qualities they believed to define a hero.
Y9 students started a writing unit titled “At the Frontiers of Writing.” In this unit, they will read and analyze various essays, and then proceed to write their own pieces and provide peer feedback.
Y10 students delved into a unit on the genre of drama titled “The Show Must Go On.” They will explore drama and screenplays, engage in acting experiences, and even try their hand at writing their own works.
上周，我们MYP韩语言文学班的同学们回顾了IB学习者简介，大家就自己目前作为学习者的优势和成长空间进行了讨论。为此，大家还制作了一棵学习者档案树，他们把自己的名字写在黄色的叶子上，在未来，随着他们一点点成长，这些名字将被转移到绿上。
而我们六、七年级的同学们则以“英雄”为主题开始了他们的第一单元。在探讨文学作品所描绘的“英雄”之前，我们每个人先思考了自己认为是什么品质定义了“英雄”。
九年级的同学们开始了名为“在写作的前沿”的写作课。在这个单元中，他们将阅读和分析各种各样的文章，然后继续创作自己的文章，并相互点评。

지난주 MYP 언어와 문학 학생들은 IB 학습자상에 대해서 다시 한번 복습하며 자신이 충분히 가지고 있는 모습과 발전해야 할 모습에 대해 나누었습니다. 그 결과로 학습자 상 나무를 만들었는데 노란 나뭇잎에 적힌 이름은 발전을 통해 초록 나뭇잎으로 옮겨 갈 것입니다.
6/7학년 학생들은 ‘영웅’을 주제로 하는 첫번째 단원을 시작하였습니다. 학생들은 문학 작품 속에 드러난 영웅을 살펴보기에 앞서 내가 생각하는 영웅의 면모에 대해 고민해보았습니다.
8/9학년 학생들은 ‘글쓰기의 최전선’이라는 글쓰기 단원을 시작하였습니다. 이 단원에서 우리는 다양한 수필을 읽고 분석한 후 다양한 작품을 써보고 합평을 할 계획입니다.
10학년 학생들은 ‘쇼는 계속 되어야 한다’라는 극 장르에 대한 단원에 들어갔습니다. 학생들은 희곡과 시나리오를 탐구하며 직접 연기를 해보고 작품을 써보기도 할 것입니다.

디플로마 과정
DP Year 11 students have embarked on their Economics journey this semester and have completed the first unit that tackles the introduction to Economics an important foundation that sets the pace for the rest of the course. In Language and Literature, we have embarked on understanding non-literary texts and started on speeches as well as embarking on our discussion journey of our first literary text: Persepolis. They are enjoying the courses and learning at the same time, and I love to see it.
DP Year 12s are on the last leg of the second last unit in Economics referred to as Macroeconomics. They are getting ready to hand in their second internal assessment as we gear up to the last unit: The Global Economy. They are focused and pay attention to their learning and are involved in making sure they complete their tasks on time. In Language and Literature, we have started our discussions on the last text: Purple Hibiscus as well as practicing for the Individual Oral. They are enjoying the courses and I love to see them grow in this journey.
在今学期，DP 11年级的同学们已经开始了他们的经济学之旅，目前已完成了第一单元的“经济学导论”，这是本课程后续部分的重要基础。至于语言和文学课，我们已经开始解析非文学作品，并且开始进行演讲，还有我们的第一场文学著作的讨论之旅——《 Persepolis 》。我很喜欢这样看着他们在享受课程的同时，一边进行着学习。
另外一边，12年级的同学们则正在学习经济学的最后一门课，也就是“宏观经济学”。目前，他们正在准备提交他们的第二次内部评估，同时也在准备最后一个单元——“全球经济”。
同学们做的非常棒，他们学习时全神贯注，并且能确保项目完成的时间。而在语言文学课上，我们已经开始讨论上一篇课文——《紫木槿》，同时也开始了个人口语练习。他们看起来很享受这些课程，而我也享受看着他们在这段旅程中成长。
DP 11학년 학생들은 경제학 여정을 시작했으며, 경제학 입문을 다루는 첫 번째 단원을 완료하여 나머지 과정의 속도를 결정하는 중요한 기초를 다졌습니다. 언어와 문학에서는 비문학 텍스트를 이해하고 발표를 시작했으며 첫 번째 문학 텍스트: 페르세폴리스에 대한 토론 여정을 시작했습니다. 학생들은 수업과 학습을 동시에 즐기고 있으며 그러한 모습을 보는 것이 정말 좋습니다.
DP 12학년 학생들은 거시경제학이라고 하는 경제학의 두 번째 마지막 단원의 마지막 단계에 있습니다. 학생들은 마지막 단원: 세계 경제를 준비하면서 두 번째 내부 평가를 제출할 준비를 하고 있습니다. 학생들은 학습에 집중하고 주의를 기울이며 제시간에 과제를 완료하기 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 언어와 문학에서는 마지막 텍스트: 퍼플 히비스커스에 대한 토론과 개인 구술 연습을 시작했습니다. 학생들은 이 과정을 즐기고 있고 저는 이 여정에서 학생들이 성장하는 것을 보고 싶습니다.

홍콩 중등교육과정
In this week’s math class, we were devoted to the unit “quadratic equation with one variable”. After simplification, an integral equation with only one unknown (one variable), and the highest degree of the unknown is quadratic, is called a quadratic equation with one variable. We studied diagrammatic methods and formulas for finding roots. Finally, it’s time to put what we learned into practice! Ms. Fei gave students some class exercises, and the students shared their learning results with each other. You all did a great job!
这周的数学课上，我们致力于学习“一元二次方程”这一单元。通过化简后，只含有一个未知数（一元），并且未知数的最高次数是二次的整式方程，叫做 一元二次方程。
我们学习了图解法和求根公式。最后就是学以致用的时候了！老师给大家布置了课堂练习，同学们完成了之后互相交流并分享学习成果。同学们都很棒！
프로그램
이번 주 수학 수업에서는 ‘변수가 하나인 이차방정식’ 단원을 다루었습니다. 미지수가 하나(변수 하나)뿐이고 미지수의 차수가 가장 높은 적분 방정식을 단순화하면 변수가 하나인 이차 방정식입니다. 우리는 근을 찾기 위한 도식적인 방법과 공식을 공부했습니다. 마지막으로 배운 것을 실습할 시간입니다! 페이 선생님은 학생들에게 몇 가지 연습 문제를 주셨고, 학생들은 서로의 학습 결과를 공유했습니다. 모두들 정말 열심히 했어요!
