Dear parents, students, and friends of the UISZ community,
We want to thank all of those who participated in today’s UPAZ meeting, Sports Day, and UPAZ Bbq. The comments and suggestions provided by our parents, the fun and excitement displayed by our students and the delicious bbq were signs of a lively community.
Also, please note that our inter school competitions will start this coming week, as our HS teams host ISD on Tuesday. Let’s wish them good luck! Middle School Football will also make their debut soon. Sincere thanks to our newly appointed Athletics Director, Mr Alex Marinescu, for organizing this, and to our coaches.
Important to note: event postponed: please make good note that our Saturday outing to the Chimelong Water Park/Zoo has been postponed to Sunday, September 18.

It is the 3rd week of learning and students and teachers are beginning to unpack and think about STEAM! Design based thinking helps us to put others first when considering a problem, then think critically and creatively to come up with a solution! Throughout the year students will gain experience with various materials and skills for designing and creating.

새학기를 시작한지 3주가 되었습니다. 학생들과 선생님들은 STEAM에 대해 하나씩 생각하기 시작했습니다! 디자인 기반의 사고는 우리가 문제를 생각할 때 다른 사람들을 배려하는 마음을 가지고 비판적, 창의적인 문제 해결을 생각해내는데 도움을 줍니다! 일년 내내 학생들은 디자인과 창작을 위한 다양한 재료와 기술로 경험을 쌓을 것입니다.

Chemistry is all around you: it explain baking and why an apple turns brown when cut open. Chemistry is the secret behind some magic tricks and colorful fireworks. So when year 7 were learning about chemistry in science class, they moved away from using textbooks because this topic is best learned by observation and hands-on experiments. Ms. Yan, who is our lab assistant, demonstrated a variety of chemical reactions to students so that they know how to tell the difference between chemical and physical changes. This science class was designed in collaboration with Ms. Dina (science teacher) and Ms. Yan (lab assistant) to deliver high quality experience to our Year 7 students in both languages, English and Chinese.

化学就在身边：化学解释了烘焙的原理，以及苹果为什么切开后会变棕色。化学，是魔术和五彩烟火背后的秘密。因此，当七年级的同学们在科学课上学习化学时，他们将课本先放在了一边，因为学习这个主题最佳的方式是观察与动手实验。课上，Yan老师（实验室助教）展示了各种各样的化学反应现象，同学们从中学会了如何区分化学变化与物理变化。通过我们与Dina老师（科学教师）和Yan老师（实验室助教）合作，七年级的同学们度过了一段高质量的中英双语化学探索旅程。

화학은 여러분 주위에 있습니다: 그것은 베이킹과 사과를 자르면 갈색으로 변하는 이유를 설명합니다. 화학은 마술과 화려한 불꽃놀이의 비밀을 알려줍니다. 그래서 7학년 학생들이 과학 시간에 화학에 대해 배울 때, 교과서를 사용하지 않습니다. 왜냐하면 화학은 관찰과 실제 실험에 의해 가장 잘 배울 수 있기 때문입니다. 연구실 조교인 옌 선생님은 학생들에게 다양한 화학 반응을 보여주셨고, 학생들이 화학적 변화와 물리적 변화를 구별하는 방법을 알도록 도와주셨습니다. 이 과학 수업은 7학년 학생들에게 영어와 중국어로 수준 높은 경험을 전달하기 위해 Dina 선생님(과학 선생님)과 Yan 선생님(랩 조교 선생님)이 공동으로 기획했습니다.

Year 6 students started their journey in the Middle school by learning the Music Elements and practicing to recognize and use them. In their first Unit, they will develop their creative thinking by composing and performing in small groups some musical ideas using any items from around us that can produce a sound.
Year 7 students will learn to work with music software programs on their devices in this Unit. Currently, they are in the process of understanding what the arrangement in music is and what techniques they could use in their compositions.
Year 8 students are going to form Music Bands and learn to perform together during this Unit. They can choose between keyboard, acoustic or electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit, ukulele, or any instrument they wish to bring and play with their group.
从学习音乐要素开始，六年级的同学们启程展开了他们的中学音乐之旅，并练习识别和使用它们。在第一单元中，同学们将以小组为单位，就地取材，运用身边任何能发出声音的物品来创作，并表演一些音乐灵感，培养他们的创造性思维。
七年级学生将学习在设备上使用音乐软件程序。目前，他们正在了解音乐范畴中编曲的定义，以及在他们的作品中可以使用到的技巧。
在本单元中，八年级学生将组成乐队并学习合奏。他们可以选择电子琴，原声吉他或电吉他，贝斯吉他，架子鼓，尤克里里，或任何他们想用于合奏的其他乐器。
6학년 학생들은 음악 요소를 배우고 그것들을 인식하고 사용하는 연습을 함으로써 중학교 음악 수업을 시작했습니다. 첫 번째 단원에서, 학생들은 소리를 낼 수 있는 주변의 사물을 사용하여 몇 가지 음악적 아이디어를 소그룹으로 구성하고 공연함으로써 창조적인 사고를 발달시킬 것입니다.
7학년 학생들은 이번 단원에서 음악 소프트웨어 프로그램으로 작업하는 법을 배울 것입니다. 현재 학생들은 음악에서의 편곡이 무엇인지, 그리고 작곡에 어떤 기술을 사용할 수 있는지에 대해 공부하고 있습니다.
8학년 학생들은 이 단원에서 밴드를 결성하고 함께 공연하는 것을 배울 것입니다. 학생들은 키보드, 어쿠스틱 기타 또는 일렉트릭 기타, 베이스 기타, 드럼 키트, 우쿨렐레 또는 가지고 오고 싶은 악기 중에서 선택할 수 있습니다.
