안녕하세요!!!
We are entering the year of Dragon, not only here in China, but also in several regions of the world. May the next two weeks be filled with quality family time, travels and discovery and of course, rest and preparation to the upcoming exams for our Year 10 and seniors.
The Spring Festival celebration of 2024 took place in UISZ on Feb.6th . In China, Spring Festival (the beginning of Lunar New Year) is the biggest and most important festival, which started more than 4000 years ago. UISZ always encourages our kids to participate and experience the local events and cultural activities, which could help the learners to know better about themselves, to have a deeper understanding of the diversity of culture and respect the distinction between different cultures. This year’s celebration included lion dance and face-changing performance; student luck draws; students’, parents’, staffs’ performances and booth activities. The celebration was organized by DP Year 11 Kari, Kinneth, Chihiro, Cowen, Tony, Sandy and Rochelle, supervised by Chinese department. As a CAS project, all the fund we’ve collected in this event will be donated to Navaloop Co. Ltd, to support their environmental project. We’ll provide further information of it after CNY holiday. We’re truly grateful for the encouragement, support and collaboration of our community members during the whole event! Without your help, we cannot make it successfully! In the Festival season, we wish all the community members to have a safe and extremely lucky year of the Dragon!
The school will resume its activities on Monday, Fevruary 19, and our boarders will be welcomed back the evening before, that is Sunday, February 18 from 7 pm.
The Faculty and Staff of UISZ wished each and every member of its community a wonderful break, and a prosperous and harmonious year of the Dragon!

2024年春节庆典于2月6日在UISZ举行。在中国，春节（农历新年之开端）是最为盛大、最为隆重的节日。中国人庆祝春节已四千年有余。在UISZ，我们常鼓励孩子参与、体验当地的文化庆典及活动，这有助于学习者更好地了解自己，加深对文化多样性的理解，并尊重不同文化之间的差异。今年的庆典包括舞狮及变脸表演，学生抽奖活动，学生、家长及员工表演以及游园活动。本次庆典由DP11年级学生Kari、Kinneth、Chihiro、Cowen、Tony、Sandy and Rochelle组织，由中文部指导。作为一个CAS项目，我们在本次活动中筹集的资金将全部捐献给诺路环保，以支持该机构的环保项目。春节假后，我们将继续跟进此事。我们衷心地感谢在整场活动中鼓励、支持和通力合作的各位社区成员！没有您的帮助，我们将无法成功地举办本次庆典！时值新春佳节，我们祝愿所有社区成员家庭新岁安康、龙年大吉！

중국뿐만 아니라 전 세계 여러 지역에서 용의 해를 맞이하고 있습니다. 앞으로 2주 동안 가족과 함께 좋은 시간을 보내고, 여행을 하며, 새로운 것을 발견하는 한편, 10학년과 졸업반 학생들이 다가오는 시험에 대비해 휴식을 취하고 준비할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
2024년 봄 축제 축하 행사가 2월 6일 UISZ에서 개최됩니다. 중국에서는 춘절(음력설의 시작)이 가장 성대하고 엄숙한 명절이다. 중국인들은 4천년 넘게 춘절을 기념해 왔습니다. UISZ에서는 종종 어린이들이 지역 문화 축제 및 활동에 참여하고 경험하도록 권장합니다. 이를 통해 학습자는 자신을 더 잘 이해하고 문화 다양성에 대한 이해를 심화하며 다른 문화 간의 차이를 존중할 수 있습니다. 올해 축하 행사에는 사자춤과 얼굴 변화 공연, 학생 추첨, 학생, 학부모, 교직원의 공연, 정원 활동 등이 포함되었습니다. 이 축하 행사는 DP11 학생 Kari, Kinneth, Chihiro, Cowen, Tony, Sandy 및 Rochelle이 조직했으며 중국 부서의 인도를 받았습니다. MYP 国际文凭中学课程 중등교육과정
MYP Mathematics students are currently learning fundamental of geometry and trigonometry functions. With this topic, they were able to understand the concept of SOH CAH TOA, calculations involving angle of elevation and depression with applications to real life problems.
They were also able to get the fun part of it with online game quiz. In addition, this topic is a prerequisite in IB DP Maths which makes it important for students. The feedbacks from their assessments showed that the students grasp deep understanding of it.
Finally, here comes the Chinese New Year holiday. The students were excited by their concert performances.

MYP 수학 학생들은 현재 기하학 및 삼각함수의 기초를 배우고 있습니다. 이 주제를 통해 학생들은 사인, 코사인, 탄젠트의 개념을 이해하고 실생활 문제에 응용할 수 있었습니다.
또한 온라인 게임 퀴즈를 통해 재미를 더할 수 있었습니다. 또한 이 주제는 IB DP 수학의 선행 요건이기 때문에 학생들에게 중요한 주제입니다. 평가 피드백을 통해 학생들이 이 주제를 깊이 이해하고 있음을 알 수 있었습니다.
마지막으로 구정 연휴가 다가왔습니다. 학생들은 콘서트 공연으로 흥겨운 시간을 보냈습니다.

Characteristics of DP Visual Arts Quality work
Some of the characteristics of high-quality visual art include incorporating the concept of Wabi-Sabi, which embraces the beauty of imperfection and the mindfulness involved in the creative process. Quality artwork should also have conceptual depth, drawing in and holding the viewer’s attention for an extended period of time. Authenticity and originality are crucial in creating good art, often achieved through thorough brainstorming, mind-mapping, and multiple drafts. Even students without prior art experience can produce technically competent pieces by continuously reviewing, refining, and reflecting on their creative process to ensure it meets the standards of high-quality artwork.

HKDSE 香港中学文凭课程 홍콩 중등교육과정 프로그램
In the one month after the Christmas holiday and before the Spring Festival holiday, we completed a quick translation practice of the classical Chinese text Xunzi’s “Encouraging Learning”, as well as after-class exercises and mock tests. At the same time, the students also completed two reflections for the classical Chinese text. Reflections are essential. I believe it will be very helpful for students’ later study of classical Chinese and self-summary after class. After that, we completed the study of Liang Qichao’s “Dedication and Joy in Industry”. I believe that the after-school homework and classroom quizzes deepened the students’ memory of reading knowledge and various writing techniques and argumentation techniques. In the last week we studied part of the classical Chinese text “The Story of Yueyang Tower” written by Fan Zhongyan. I also assigned holiday homework and will continue to study the classical Chinese text “The Story of Yueyang Tower” after returning from the holiday. In the last class of this week, we watched the movie “Bottom Girl”. I hope that the students can have the same spirit of turning the tide and never giving up like the protagonist, whether in study or in other aspects.

圣诞假期后至春节假期前的一个月时间里，我们完成了文言文荀子《劝学》的语译速练，课后练习题和模拟试题，同时同学们还完成了文言文考后分析表两则。考后反思必不可少，相信这对于同学们后期文言文的学习和课后的自我总结非常有帮助。之后我们完成了阅读梁启超《敬业与乐业》的学习，相信课后作业和课堂小测加深了同学们对于阅读知识和各种写作手法、论证手法的记忆。在最后一周我们学习了一部分文言文范仲淹的《岳阳楼记》。并布置了假期作业，在放假回来后会继续完成文言文《岳阳楼记》的学习。在本周的最后一节课我们观看了电影《垫底辣妹》，希望同学们也能像主人公一样有着力挽狂澜和永不放弃的精神，不论是在学习上还是在其他方面。

Boarding News
We would like to remind you that the boarding house reopens from 7pm on the 18th of February. Please arrange your travel plans accordingly to ensure students arrive before 9:30 pm to set them up for a successful new term. We are excited to welcome everyone back and look forward to a great term ahead.
Celebrations from the Week
Last week, the staff and students gathered for our last House Meeting for the year of the Rabbit. The boarding team organized a special Chinese New Year celebration for our students. To welcome the year of the Dragon and wish them all the best for the upcoming year, each student received their own hóngbāo, with a personalized card, Cobra Cafe voucher and chocolate coins inside. We also took the opportunity to thank our incredible boarding mentor team for all their care and support of the students. It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter and happiness.

On a personal note, my wife and I have been in China for six months now, and I could not be happier to be part of such a fantastic community.
