上周二, 带着这些疑问,我们很荣幸邀请到增城誉德莱的设计课程老师Jamel老师接受我们的采访。

为什么说设计是科学和艺术融合的课程? 
Why Design is an integration of Arts and Science? 

Jamel因为设计是基于科学的。就像你在科学领域所做的一切无论是化学,物理还是类似的科学或者生物。设计课程都会将他们的知识涉及到。同时当你创作时,因为产品是供人们与之互动的。所以基本上是生物力学或人们如何用肌肉或其他动作使用设备,这也是非常重要科学。 

Because design is based on science. Like everything you do in science whether it’s chemistry, physics or like biology, they are all involved in design. Because when you create a product, it is for people to interact with. So basically the Bio Mechanics or how the people the muscles or other movements work with a device are really important. 

至于艺术而言,是事物美好事物令人愉悦的部分。触感愉悦,视觉上的愉悦。我们经常说的设计是科学和艺术融合的地方,因为实际上成功的设计实际上是在生物力学,就像人们与产品互动的方式以及让我,让别人感受到,嘿我想使用这个产品 我想买这个产品。 

And in terms of art, it is a part where things are beautiful things, they are pleasing to touch, pleasing to see. The idea we say design is where science and art break even is because actually successful design are where actually the bio-mechanic, like the way people interact with the product and the way they look, which makes someone fell like, hey I want to use this product, I want to buy this product.

我们的学生平时在设计课过程中都会做些什么? 
What our students usually do during design class?  

Jamel设计课程其实是中学项目的八门选修课的其中一门。 老师教学其实是主要帮助学生培养良好技能尤其是工程学的技能知识以及团队协助的技能以及语言技能。以上所有特质都经过制作设计项目的过程中发展。目前,我负责MYP 6到10年级学生的设计学科的教学。 

Design is actually one of the subjects that are part of the MYP, a cycle one of the eights And what we do basically is to help students develop certain characteristics and skills,engineering skills, knowledge, collaboration skills, language skills, all that through project base. So at this point, I have students from grade Six to Ten in MYP.

各个年级都会有哪些不同的设计课程?
So what are the differences between each year group in design class? 

Jamel:他们各个年级都在进行不同阶段的学习。 
They are working on different projects.  

6年级制作各种手工艺,和各种嘉年华游乐场摩天轮模型。 
Year 6 are doing craft and creating prototypes or models of rides ferris wheels in Carnivals theme.

7年级的学生混合团队协作设计,制作全新的棋盘游戏。
Year 7 works into teams designing board game.  

8年级的学生正在进行誉德莱今年设计课学习的
全新新内容——木艺 
他们自主创新设计风格完全不一样的人体工学木凳。

Year 8 students are working a brand new project in UISZ design class—Wood Craft 
they all design their own stool of bio-mechanics, and none of them are the same. 

9年级的学生学蒸汽机,以及背后的工作原理。
然后他们将可以进一步学习爆燃机的工作原理。

Year 9 students are learning steam engine and the mechanism behind it,
and they will understand how like an explosion engine works. 

10年级正在设计抓取器。一起交流讨论共同决定一个能够帮助到残疾人士的工艺制作主题。 
Year 10 students are designing grabber, they talk together, and they decide to work on a project that would help people with disability. 

11年级和12年级将会进行建模的学习。学生除了学习python,Java,编程。他们还需要学习Fusion360的三维建模软件。然后也会运用到3D打印机。目前他们正在通过设计制作手机支架来学习如何建模和打印。 

Year 11 and Year 12 students will learn coding , like python and Java. And they will also need to learn 3D modeling software called Fusion 360, and will be taught how to use 3D printer. So for now they are working on the phone holder design.

什么样的特质能够帮助学生学好设计课程?
What characteristics are needed to learn well? 

Jamel:他们只需要成为冒险者, 他们只需要跳出框框思考或不要畏惧思考, 与他人不同的想法。 
没有正确的想法,没有对与错。你可以创造一些设计无法起作用,但学生仍然得到八的高分。 
因为我们不是对学生结果进行评分,我们看重的是思维和工程的过程而不是作品本身,所以没有错误的想法。 

我认为最重要的是让学生充满冒险求知的精神主要还是想培养他们对使用技能感兴趣。重要的不是产品这是他们思考的方式和他们经历过程的方式。每个阶段都不同,学生年级越高年龄越大,他们就会学到更加复杂的东西。 

They just need to be risk takers. They just need to think outside the box or not be afraid of,to think differently than others.  
There’s no right ideas there’s no right and wrong. You can create something that doesn’t work and still get an eight.  
Because the idea is not we grade the process. We are says the process of thinking and engineering are not really the product itself. So there are no wrong ideas.  

I think the most important thing is to let students be full of the spirit of adventure and seeking knowledge. The main thing is to cultivate their interest in using skills. It’s not the product that matters, it’s the way they think and the way they go through the process. As students get older, they learn more complex things.
