This week has been particularly special, marked by the wonderful success of our student transition visit with our sister school, UISG. Seeing our students engage, collaborate, and build connections was incredibly rewarding, and it truly embodied the spirit of our global UIS Community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone—staff, students, and families—who supported and participated in making this exchange so meaningful and smooth.

This month, we have the great privilege of celebrating Chinese New Year, a joyful and meaningful festival that honors family, renewal, and hope. Across all grade levels, students are engaging in activities that connect this celebration to their Units of Inquiry (UOIs), blending cultural appreciation with deep, conceptual learning.

Learning in Action Across Grade Levels

K–K2: Our youngest learners are buzzing with excitement as they prepared for their field trip to the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum! Through hands-on exploration, they’ve been learning about prehistoric life, fossil formation, and Earth’s ancient history. They’ve created dinosaur models, compared herbivores and carnivores, and even practiced “paleontologist” skills by digging for “fossils” in sensory bins. This inquiry ties beautifully to their developing understanding of how the natural world has changed over time.
幼儿园K–K2：最年幼的学习者们正为即将到来的河源恐龙博物馆实地考察兴奋不已！通过动手探索，他们学习了史前生物、化石形成过程以及地球远古历史。孩子们制作了恐龙模型，对比了食草动物与食肉动物的差异，更在感官箱中挖掘“化石”，实践“古生物学家”技能。这项探究活动完美契合他们对自然世界历时性演变的认知发展。

In their UOI Sharing the Planet, students are exploring how we can care for our environment. They’ve launched an inspiring recycling project, sorting materials, designing labeled bins, and even creating art from reused items. Their classroom now features a “Recycling Station,” and they’re eager to share tips on reducing waste with the whole school!
幼儿园大班&一年级：在“共享地球”主题单元中，学生们正探索如何守护我们的环境。他们发起了一项鼓舞人心的回收计划：分类处理材料、设计标识清晰的回收箱，甚至用废旧物品创作艺术品。教室里现已设立“回收站”，孩子们迫不及待地想向全校师生分享减少垃圾的小妙招！
Grade 2 & 3:
Under the transdisciplinary theme Where We Are in Place and Time, students are investigating how communities build and design structures. They’ve researched ancient and modern architecture, experimented with engineering principles, and are now constructing their own fantastic structures using sustainable materials.
二至三年级：在跨学科主题“我们身处的时空”框架下，学生们正探究社区如何建造与设计建筑。他们研究了古代与现代建筑，实践了工程原理，如今正运用可持续材料建造自己的奇幻建筑。
Grade 4:
Collaboration took center stage this week! Students worked closely with their Music and Chinese teachers to prepare performances for Chinese New Year. They learned traditional songs that will be part of our upcoming celebration. Their learning reflects how culture, art, and identity intertwine.

Grade 5:
As part of their UOI on How the World Works, students are diving into the world of goods and services. They’ve designed their own “dream sandwiches,” calculated costs, created marketing posters, and will soon run a mock café to practice selling their products. Through this, they’re learning about entrepreneurship, budgeting, and customer service, all while having delicious fun!
五年级：作为“世界如何运转”主题单元的一部分，学生们正深入探索商品与服务的世界。他们设计了专属的“梦想三明治”，计算成本，制作营销海报，并即将开设模拟咖啡馆实践产品销售。通过这些活动，他们在享受美味乐趣的同时，学习了创业精神、预算管理和客户服务等知识！
Field Trip Highlight: Heyuan Dinosaur Museum
The highlight of our week was undoubtedly our whole-primary field trip to the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum! From K to Grade 5, every student participated in this unforgettable journey through deep time.
Students explored life-sized dinosaur skeletons, examined real fossilized dinosaur eggs (a specialty of Heyuan!), and engaged in guided inquiry activities that connected directly to their UOIs.
实地考察活动亮点：河源恐龙博物馆
本周最精彩的活动当属全校小学部师生共同前往河源恐龙博物馆的实地考察！从幼儿园到五年级，每位学生都参与了这场穿越深远时空的难忘旅程。
同学们近距离观察了等比例恐龙骨架，仔细研究了真正的恐龙化石蛋（这是河源的特色展品！），并通过引导式探究活动，将所学内容与课程单元主题（UOIs）紧密结合。

The school was immersed in a serious academic atmosphere this week with the simultaneous conduct of major examinations. Our D12 and D11 students diligently undertook their Third Mock Examinations, a crucial practice that simulates the real conditions of their final external assessments. Their focus and determination were evident throughout. Concurrently, our D10 students completed their Final Examinations for the term, marking a significant checkpoint in their academic journey. We commend all students for their hard work, discipline, and commendable conduct during this demanding period.

A Special Visit: Dr. Mullen as Oral Examiner

A highlight during the English speaking examinations was the special presence of our Head of School,Dr. Mullen, who personally served as an examiner for some sessions. His active involvement underscored the high importance we place on authentic language assessment and student support. For students, it was a unique and valuable experience to engage in their oral assessment directly with the Head of School, receiving encouragement and insightful feedback. This gesture truly reflects our leadership’s deep commitment to student learning and holistic development.

UISG Open Day 誉德莱广州学校开放日
This Wednesday, Years 6-11 attended an Open Day at UISG. It was a chance to hear information such as the range of ECAs on offer, tour the campus, and meet their UISG peers.
本周三，六至十一年级的同学们参加了UISG校园开放日。同学们有机会了解丰富的课外活动安排，参观校园设施，并与UISG的伙伴们交流互动。

DP2 Mock exams DP模拟考
The first of the DP2 Mock exams started on Thursday. Well done to our Psychology students for their two days of focus. The remainder of the DP2 subject mock exams will occur after Spring Festival from the 5-13th March.
DP2年级首场模拟考试已于周四拉开序幕。心理学考生们圆满完成了为期两日的专注应试，表现优异。其余DP2科目的模拟考试将于春节后的3月5日至13日陆续进行。

Looking Ahead 预告
Y10 Mock onscreen examinations will be held throughout the next week. This is a chance for students to experience what it is like to sit an onscreen exam, showcase their knowledge and skills at this point of the year, and receive a predicted grade for each examination. Onscreen examinations are an important part of MYP eAssessment. The official examinations will be held in May.
十年级电子模拟考试将于下周全面展开。这是同学们亲身体验线上考试形式、展示现阶段学习成果、并获得各科预估成绩的重要机会。电子考试是MYP电子评估体系的重要组成部分，正式考试将于五月举行。
