Round 3 of Reading Buddies
In the Round 3 of Reading Buddies, our Y1 and Y4 students came together for special sessions filled with creativity and shared discovery.
As our Y1 learners began their inquiry into the magical world of poetry, their Y4 buddies stepped into the role of mentors, guiding them with enthusiasm and kindness.
A Creative Spark
To ignite their imaginations, the buddies kicked off with a fun provocation: a collaborative drawing activity, where laughter and ideas flowed freely. Together, they designed playful and surprising characters and even gave them names—a perfect starting point for Y1 students to explore poetry.


With support from their Y4 mentors, the Y1 students crafted their very first acrostic poems. The older buddies modelled how to play with words, while the younger ones listened attentively to every tip and contributed their own creative ideas.







Back in their literacy classes, the Y1 students developed their skills, eventually writing their own original acrostic poems. To celebrate their growth, they invited their Y4 buddies for a special poetry recital. Though they were a bit nervous at first, a gentle reminder from Ms Flamingo shifted the energy: “Remember how your Y4 friends shared their Reader’s Theatre with you? Now it’s your turn to shine!”
And shine they did! With proud smiles, the Y1 students recited their poems, their voices growing stronger with each word.



As a token of gratitude, they invited their Y4 mentors to play games they’d created—a joyful finale to a partnership built on trust and creativity.


Why It Mattered
This collaboration wasn’t just about poetry—it was about:
- An authentic opportunity for student agency.
- Joyful Learning: Y1 and Y4 students realised that writing is fun!
- Developing social and emotional skills through meaningful interaction.
- Community: Bonds grew stronger across grades. At UISG, we learn together.
- The experience also beautifully demonstrated the IB Learner Profile:
- Knowledgeable: Y4 students shared their understanding of poetic structures.
- Caring: Older buddies patiently encouraged their younger partners.
- Risk-takers: Y1 students bravely shared their creative voices.
Together, they proved that learning is sweeter when shared. We couldn’t be prouder of our poets and their inspiring mentors!

在”阅读伙伴”第三轮活动中,一年级与四年级学生携手展开充满创意与共同探索的特别课程。
当一年级萌新开始探秘诗歌的魔法世界时,他们的四年级伙伴化身暖心导师,以热情与耐心引领前行。
创意火花迸发
为点燃想象力,伙伴们以趣味协作绘画开启旅程:欢声笑语中,孩子们共同创造出天马行空的角色,甚至为它们赋予姓名——这成为一年级小诗人探索诗歌王国最完美的起点。


在四年级导师的指导下,一年级的小诗人们创作了人生第一首藏头诗。学长们示范如何玩转文字魔法,小学弟学妹们则专注聆听每一个建议,并贡献自己的创意灵感。







回到语文课堂后,一年级同学们继续精进诗艺,最终完成了属于自己的原创藏头诗。为了庆祝这份成长,他们特别邀请四年级导师参加诗歌朗诵会。虽然起初有些紧张,但火烈鸟老师温暖的提醒改变了气氛:”记得四年级哥哥姐姐是怎么为你们表演读者剧场的吗?现在轮到你们绽放光彩啦!”
孩子们确实光芒四射!带着自豪的笑容,一年级小诗人们朗诵着自己的作品,每吐露一个字,声音就更加坚定响亮。



为表达谢意,小诗人们邀请导师们一起玩他们自创的游戏——这场建立在信任与创意基础上的伙伴关系,在欢声笑语中画上完美句点。


深远意义
这次合作远不止于诗歌创作,它更是关于:
- 学生自主成长的珍贵契机
- 快乐学习:让两个年级的孩子们发现写作的乐趣
- 通过有意义的互动培养社交与情感技能
- 社区联结:跨年级的情谊更加深厚。在UISG,我们共同成长
