Y7U Visual Arts – Appealing Composition and Depth, Space, and Perspective

Y8 Visual Arts- Human Impact on Nature
This unit explores the human relationship with nature, but also places equal importance on experimenting with different mediums and introducing various art genres and styles. By incorporating a variety of techniques and approaches, students can deepen their understanding of nature and art. While the focus remains on the human connection to the natural world, fundamental art skills are not neglected. Observation drawing, 2D to 3D rendering, and an understanding of proportion in the human body are all given significant emphasis. These skills serve as the foundation for more complex artistic expressions and help students develop their abilities as artists.
By balancing exploration of mediums and styles with a focus on basic art skills, this unit encourages students to engage with nature in a meaningful way while honing their technical abilities. Through this approach, students can create artwork that is visually compelling and conceptually rich.

Y10 Visual Arts- Choose your own ARTventure
As we are near the end of our MYP journey in Year 10, the final unit proved to be an experimental and short one. Despite its brevity, we were able to cover all the necessary criteria within a condensed timeframe. The decision to keep the unit open and flexible was deliberate, as it followed closely on the heels of completing our MYP e-portfolio.
During this unit, students were presented with three different statements of inquiry, options of global context, key concepts, and related concepts. Through collaborative group work, students developed inquiry questions that guided their exploration and learning. They proposed action plans that considered the limited time allocated for this unit. To ensure that students remained on track, checkpoints were established to monitor progress throughout the unit. The culmination of this experiment yielded impressive results as students produced beautiful artwork, conducted small investigations on selected artworks, and explored various media and ideas.

Y8 Sustainable Clothing Design
For their final unit of the school year, Y8 students learned about triple bottom line sustainability and how it applies to clothing design. Students posted their inquiry about economic, social, and environmental impacts of clothing designs on Padlet. They also went through a process of developing and showing their ideas. On exhibition now is their idea development for sustainable clothing designs.
