This past week, UISG students attended U2NESCO at UISZ. U2NESCO is a model United Nations conference that allows participants to role-play as delegates representing different countries in a mock United Nations. Delegates discuss and formulate solutions to real-world issues, experiencing the diplomatic and decision-making processes of the UN.
The theme of the conference was “The Future We Want.” Our students were involved in the Education, Health, Promoting Science, General Assembly, Human Rights, and G20 committees. We also had two Chairs, Anna Oh and Pei Ying Cheong, who led the Human Rights Committee. Chairs are leaders of committees, and they guide discussions, enforce rules of procedure, and ensure the smooth functioning of the committee.
Over the 3-day conference, our delegates engaged in debates, negotiations, and resolution drafting to address international issues within their assigned committees. The MUN Club at UISG, as led by Year 11 students Anna Oh and Happy Ke, spent a lot of time and effort preparing for the conference it showed! All of our delegates did a fantastic job, and represented UISG well. Several of our students won best delegate, and one of our students got an honourable mention.
Well done delegates, you did a great job!
If your child is interested in MUN, please have them talk to Mr. Bewza. MUN is a great opportunity for students to develop their public speaking, research, and diplomatic skills while addressing important global issues.
