HIKE
BAIYUN MOUNTAIN
On May 7, Year 8 students set out on an exciting journey to the top of Baiyun Mountain, marking a key moment in their PHE unit entitled “Health and Fitness: Leisure and Lifesaving.”

With the unit’s Global Context of “Identities and Relationships” and the key concept of “Development,” along with related concepts of “Adaptation” and “Environment,” this hike taught students how nature affects both our physical and mental well-being.

Students discovered the beauty of their surroundings while learning to navigate and adapt to challenging conditions, such as rain and steep paths.
The adventure began at the north gate, where the students eagerly gathered, ready for the roughly 50-minute hike to the summit.
The trail included both flat and steep sections, testing the students’ endurance and teamwork as they navigated the changing landscape.
With a common goal in mind, each step brought them closer to the breathtaking views waiting for them at the top.

As they climbed, the students thought about the unit’s Statement Of Inquiry: “Environment plays an important role in our development and how we adopt to different situation.” Even though the weather was cool and rainy, the students kept their spirits high and stayed motivated.

Reaching the peak brought a strong sense of accomplishment. The students took a moment to enjoy the stunning views, realizing that their journey was not just about getting to the top but also about the experiences and lessons they learned along the way. After a short break, they began their descent, exiting at Yongtai gate with hearts full of pride and friendship.

Aside from the MYP PE teachers, the China New Horizon (CNH) team, based in Hong Kong, joined the hike to support and guide the students, ensuring a safe and educational experience.

Their presence not only offered help but also showed the importance of community and teamwork in outdoor activities. This combination of working together and expert guidance helped the students build confidence and resilience, which are important parts of their health and fitness unit.

This hike was more than just an outdoor activity; it was a meaningful experience that highlighted the importance of health, fitness, and the environment in their lives while strengthening their connections with each other and the world around them.

As they reflect on this adventure, the students carry forward the lessons learned and the friendships formed, ready to embrace future challenges with courage and teamwork.
