October at UISG turned into a month-long creative sprint: students picked up pens every school day, sketched from prompts, and sharpened not just lines but habits. Inktober 2025 wasn’t only about producing inked pictures — it was about practice, risk-taking, and the focus that grows when artists show up every day.
What is Inktober?

Inktober is an international, month-long drawing challenge started by artist Jake Parker. It encourages participants to make a daily drawing in response to a prompt word. At UISG, prompts were used not only to spark creativity but also to build vocabulary and deepen students’ understanding of English through a visual-language connection.

Drawing isn’t just fun — it helps students think. Studies show drawing boosts memory and understanding because it engages learners both visually and kinesthetically. One set of studies reported that drawing nearly doubled recall compared with reading or writing alone (Edutopia — “The Science of Drawing and Memory”). In short: sketching helps students learn more deeply.
Inktober
To keep energy high, students earned house points for daily participation, strong technique, and tidy, well-presented sketchbooks. The house system turned individual practice into teamwork, building a caring community and curating collective sketchbook displays.
