January 30, 2026: Advancing Academics, Celebrating Arts & Athletics, and Strengthening Regional Leadership
Following the wonderful success of Book Week, we launch straight into another dynamic week for the start of February. I want to thank everyone who joined us for the Book Character Dress Up Parade and the ACAMIS Basketball Tournament at UISG.
Next week is packed with key events. Our Grade 10s will make important DP choices, and athletic, artistic, and academic events fill the schedule: MS Volleyball hosts ISA, a CNY Art Exhibit opens in the Admin Hall, Theatre Week begins with Grade 7’s “Comedy of Errors”, and the PYP CNY Performance on Thursday at 13:30 in the MFH.
Beyond the campus walls, our students will compete in the ACAMIS Art Battle, Robotics Nationals in Shanghai和一个 swimming invite in Guangzhou.
On a broader note, I was proud to represent UEF and our two schools at the Education Bureau of Guangzhou’s Spring Roundtable Symposium yesterday. With over 28 schools and bureau officials present, it was a prime opportunity to share UISG’s academic successes, strengthen our longstanding positive relationship with the Education Bureau of Guangzhou, and advocate for collaboration on our programs. It reaffirms our position as a leading regional institution.
Let’s carry last week’s positive energy, and I thank you for your continued partnership in making UISG an exceptional place of learning.

K1’s Community Explorer Day: Learning Roles, Building Confidence

Our K1 students embarked on a wonderful journey of discovery during their latest field trip! This hands-on experience brought our current Unit of Inquiry, “How We Organize Ourselves,” to vibrant life, allowing the children to explore the central idea that people have different roles in the community in a tangible and exciting way.

It was a joy to witness our young learners showcase their growing independence. Managing their own belongings and navigating the trip with such enthusiasm, they chatted keenly about the various helpers and workplaces they observed, connecting their classroom learning to the world outside.
The highlight was our visit to the incredible neoBio Play Space, a purpose-built environment for immersive role-play. Here, the children dove into simulated professional worlds with wonderful focus. They became caring veterinarians in a clinic complete with an operating room and X-rays, experienced the excitement of being jockeys, and took on roles as engineers, firefighters, grocers, and ice cream artisans. A particularly engaging part of the simulation was the chance to “earn” through one job and thoughtfully “spend” on another activity, making personal choices about their exploration.

More than just fun, the day strengthened their understanding of community structures and nurtured their confidence as capable, curious learners. They returned beaming with stories and a deeper, experiential grasp of how societies function.

We are immensely proud of our K1 explorers and so grateful for experiences that turn abstract concepts into unforgettable, hands-on learning. Well done, everyone!

Book Week : A Chapter of Joy & Imagination
BOOK WEEK

This week, our school transformed into a vibrant celebration of stories, imagination, and community during our annual Book Week. It was a fantastic journey that saw the campus buzzing with literary enthusiasm.

The week kicked off with the creative challenge of the Door Decorating Competition, with classrooms transforming their entrances into giant book covers and tributes to beloved authors. This creativity was matched by the quiet dedication of our Mystery Readers, who brought surprise and delight to classrooms with their chosen tales throughout the week.

The spirit of shared reading was at the heart of the week. The MFH became a sanctuary of silence during our DEAR session, where the entire primary school enjoyed the simple pleasure of getting lost in a good book together.

Interactive fun was around every corner. Students tested their knowledge with Book Bingo cards and embarked on a Library Scavenger Hunt. Lunchtimes were alive with activity: from the artistic flair displayed in the Redesign a Book Cover competition to the dramatic guesses during Charades and Pictionary. The week also focused on giving stories new life through our Book Swap, ensuring beloved books found new readers.

The celebration ended on Friday with the Book Character Parade. The basketball court became a runway of literary heroes, villains, and icons, showcasing incredible effort and creativity. Following the parade, the Door Gallery Walk allowed everyone to appreciate the stunning artistic efforts that had blossomed throughout the week.

It was a truly wonderful celebration of why we read — to learn, to imagine, and to connect. Thank you to every student, teacher, and staff member who participated with such energy and spirit. The stories we shared and the memories we created will undoubtedly inspire us until next year’s chapter unfolds.
