UAL Portfolio Review

Supporting Third Culture Kids and Cross Cultural Kids in their College Counselling JourneyInternational school is a cultural melting pot, with its students naturally accustomed to interacting with people from various countries. Spending one’s developmental years in a culture that is not their passport country’s identify them as a Third Culture Kid (TCK). Even if a student is growing up in their passport country, the mere fact of growing up in an international school setting makes them a Cross Cultural Kid (CCK), due to the significant part of their formative years being spent in a diverse environment.Being an adult TCK myself (South Korean national, growing up in Thailand, studying in the US, working in Hungary and now China) I reflect on this unique identity a great deal – and have recently written an article for the Times Higher Education, sharing my reflections on how to support TCKs and CCKS best in their college counselling journey.
