HK Uni Visit
College Counselling Series 2026

On Monday, September 14th, our DP students set out at bright and early on a special cross-border campus trip to the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The day delivered a valuable, hands-on glimpse into university life and admissions at two of Hong Kong’s most prestigious institutions.
At both campuses, students attended admissions talks covering the latest application information, followed by guided campus tours. HKU’s classical, historic architecture stood in sharp contrast to PolyU’s modern, spacious, newly designed buildings — sparking meaningful conversations among students about the kind of university environment that might suit them best. PolyU’s closed-campus setup gave it a quieter, more contained, community-oriented feel, while HKU’s openness felt embedded within the wider city.

A highlight was a special session with HKU’s business faculty, led by Dr. Olivia Leung, Associate Dean of the HKU Business School. In her “Business Pitch in Practice” workshop, students broke into groups of six, each member taking on a role across Marketing, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Strategy, and Tech & AI. With just 90 seconds to pitch, students channeled their inner “Shark Tank” contestant, thinking on their feet to convince investors. The session also gave students a forward-looking view of how AI is woven into many of HKU’s programs.

After a full morning of campus visits, students enjoyed lunch at Festival Walk mall — a welcome chance to relax, explore, and experience a slice of local Hong Kong life with friends.
It was a special occasion, as Ms. Dorothy, our UEF Board Chair, Mr. Dan, our Head of School, and Mr. Groves, our Head of Secondary, personally accompanied the students throughout the day, gaining their own insider look at both universities while getting to know the students better.

HKU & Poly U Visit 2026
01. Student Reflections
Grade 11 student Ting Chi (Kris) shared: “The business mini lecture was fun and let me taste a sense of a business major. Despite the long travel time and navigating borders with 40+ students and chaperones, it was a successful trip.“
Taegyu (G11), on his second-ever campus visit, reflected: “It was valuable to see how campuses in HK looked like and how they differ from other campuses. Also I got to see actual university students and their school life, which was cool… I enjoyed the time.“
Jethro (G12) noted: “Going to Hong Kong was an awesome experience, getting to place my academic expectation onto real-world goals. I especially enjoyed visiting PolyU’s beautiful campus which is typically closed to the public.”
Xarina (G12) added: “It helped me better understand what I’m looking for in a university.“
02. Looking Ahead
Hong Kong is one of our students’ most popular university destinations, and the UISG College Counselling department supports this running this trip biannually, giving our DP students the chance to experience this special opportunity for themselves.
