September 18, 2026: Thank You, a Visiting Poet, and the Week Ahead
UISGコミュニティの皆様、
Thank you to all the parents who joined us this week for our parent sessions, including the special session with our visiting author and literacy specialist from the United States, Mr. Matt Glover. Matt has been working with our students and teachers all week, and he shared a wonderful session with parents about engaging young writers and how you can support your child at home.
We have an exciting week ahead, highlighted by a visiting poet working with students in secondary all week, as we kick off Monday’s High School Poetry Residency. That evening, our boarding students will enjoy their monthly birthday BBQ followed by the Mid-Autumn Festival Boarding celebration.
- On Tuesday, September 22, parents are warmly invited to the “All About the MYP eAssessment” session from 8:30–9:30 AM in the Admin Hall.
- Wednesday, September 23, includes the first-ever ACAMISポエトリー・スラム at UISG, along with a Hult Business School workshop for Grade 10 students during Period 4.
As a reminder, Thursday, September 24, is the last day of school before the Mid-Autumn Festival, and school will be closed on Friday, September 25. We wish you all a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival with your families and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, October 12.

Community Spirit Shines at UISG
Spirit Week at UISG

Both Primary and Secondary Wolves brought their energy, creativity, and joy to all corners of the campus during our Spirit Week this week. Students embraced each themed day with enthusiasm, taking part by wearing the themed-day costumes and participating in the numerous events at breaktimes. From cozy pyjamas to colourful polka dots, favourite sports jerseys, and coordinated twin outfits, the wolf pack’s pride in their school community was very evident and on full display. Our daily breaktimes were also buzzing with activity and excitement as students and teachers faced off in friendly football and basketball matches, participated in musical chairs, and even took part in karaoke sessions with classmates.

Thank you to all families who supported Spirit Week by helping your children participate and to the teachers who helped organize the events. These moments of connection and celebration remind us why our UISG community is so special.

Every step tells a story – Art students make every step count!

UISG students explored how individual ideas and designs contribute to our school community by drawing and painting on physical shoes inspired by different themes. Students considered their personal interests and connected their designs to journeys of colour and migration. Through working on this unique three-dimensional surface, they discovered how materials affect their designs, refining and reflecting throughout the process.

Our school community added their own artwork to the shoes at the welcome picnic event, led by the student council, who shared their knowledge and techniques. The playful display showcased every student’s creativity: all the painted shoes came together in a sculptural installation—a creative trail spelling UISG, creating a journey through our school that celebrates every student’s creative contribution.

Matt Glover Visit and Parent PD
Matt Glover

Thank you to those parents who attended Wednesday’s Parent Power Up session with special guest Matt Glover. Matt Glover visited our school this week to work with students, staff, and parents on strategies to support the development of writing skills in children. Wednesday’s session was focused on building parents’ understanding of a couple of key universal learning principles such as honouring your child’s approximation – their current level of development and understanding – and the power of making small focused nudges (instead of big overwhelming pushes) in their development as a writer.

Matt shared that while focusing on conventions like punctuation and spelling is important and often the aspect of writing parents tend to focus on, he emphasized the importance of focusing on elements of composition (writer’s craft, style, voice etc) to develop children’s writing skills. He provided practical strategies such as “reading like a writer” – having conversations with children about the writing and composition strategies they notice in the books they read. Matt illustrated brilliantly how much children transfer and apply such strategies from texts they’re exposed to at home and school, and just how much they take on when the adults in their lives think aloud and expose them to conversations about writing craft, process, and genre. We hope families will continue these rich conversations at home and celebrate the young writers growing in your midst!

DP Students Explore Hong Kong Universities

On Monday, September 14th, our DP students visited the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a special campus trip. At both campuses, students attended admissions talks covering the latest application information, followed by guided campus tours. Students were struck by HKU’s classical, historic atmosphere alongside PolyU’s newly designed, spacious facilities. A highlight of the day was a special session with HKU’s renowned business faculty, where students learned how to pitch a business idea. The group also enjoyed a taste of local Hong Kong life with lunch at Festival Walk mall.

It was a special occasion, as Ms Dorothy, Mr Dan, and Mr Groves personally accompanied the students, gaining an insider look into the universities while getting to know them better along the way. A huge thank you to the HKU and PolyU admissions teams, our chaperones, and everyone involved in organizing this memorable trip!
