Huanghua, Guangdong
[Nov 1, 2025]
A cohort of dedicated Grade 9 students from Utahloy International School (UIS) had embarked on their training journey in the stunning landscapes of Huanghua, Guangzhou, as they undertake the Adventurous Journey section of the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Scheduled for October 31st to November 1st, 2025, this expedition is far more than a camping trip; it is a cornerstone of a globally recognized program designed to unlock the potential of young people. The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award challenges students to step out of their comfort zones and develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

1. An Adventure in Growth and Well-being
The Adventurous Journey is a powerful catalyst for personal development. Amidst the natural beauty of Huanghua, students will learn to navigate unfamiliar terrain, work as a team to set up camp, cook their own meals, and manage every aspect of their expedition.

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a holistic journey that nurtures the whole student,” said Mr. Alek, expedition leader. “This camp is intentionally designed to build resilience, foster independence, and promote mental and physical well-being in a supportive, outdoor environment. Students return not just with memories, but with a newfound belief in their own capabilities.”

The benefits of the Award are profound and long-lasting, contributing significantly to a student’s holistic development and future readiness.
2. Building a Standout University Application
In an increasingly competitive academic landscape, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award provides a significant edge. Universities worldwide actively seek out students who have completed the Award, as it provides tangible proof of a candidate’s commitment, leadership, and perseverance.

3. A Call to Adventure: Join the Journey!
The UIS community is incredibly proud of our current participants and warmly encourages all students in Grades 9-12 to consider embarking on their own Duke of Edinburgh’s Award journey.

The Award is a flexible, non-competitive framework where young people design their own pathway to growth through four sections: Volunteering, Physical Recreation, Skills, and the Adventurous Journey. It’s a chance for every student to discover their passions, challenge themselves, and build a legacy of achievement.
