Sébastien Pelletier
Over the past 20 years, Mr Pelletier travelled the world to pursue his passion for travels, cultures, and Education, of course. His interest to see the world as both a unique AND diverse place led him to work in Canada, Egypt, Syria, India, and the USA with various curricula (Canadian, French, British, US, and the IB), through which he can see their subtleties, commonalities, and can act as mirrors of our global society. Sébastien spent the first 13 years of his career as a French as a Second Language teacher at all levels. After a Master in Educational Leadership at Lehigh University, he has been leading school divisions and campuses.

As UISZ’s new Head of School, he is particularly keen to launch different community building projects and is interested in the data-driven decision process. Mr Pelletier and his family, Valentine (also a UISZ teacher), Lila, and Achille, are proud to call UISZ home for the years to come.

Chunping Lai
Lai Chunping is from Guangdong. She majored in teaching Chinese as a foreign language at university and later obtained a master’s degree.

After graduation, she joined the big family of UISZ, started her teaching career, and gradually grew into an IB educator and DP examiner who believes in lifelong learning. She has successively held the following roles in UISZ: IGCSE Chinese teacher, MYP/DP Chinese teacher, Head of Water House, Coordinator of the Chinese Department, and now DP Coordinator.

I have enjoyed reading everyone’s bios, and I can confidently say I am excited to join the community at UISZ and take on a new challenge in my career as well as experience a new part of the world. I am from Dallas, Texas and have worked both stateside and internationally for over ten years.

We have one child, a three year old named Sophie who was born overseas in Oman. We are excited for her to have the opportunity to learn another language (She has picked up Portuguese in Brazil faster than us).

Lauren Mackay
I’m from Aotearoa/New Zealand and have also lived in France and America. My move to Zengcheng will be my first time working in an international school. I’m looking forward to utilising the IB curriculum and teaching secondary English at UISZ.

For the last seven years I have been working at a New Zealand state secondary school in Dunedin – one of UNESCO’s Cities of Literature. I teach English and run the Drama department at my current school. My extracurriculars include coordinating a sustainability group, leading outdoor education camps, and providing a myriad of performing arts activities. I value creating opportunities for students to work collaboratively and gain confidence both on and off a stage.

Lindsey Walsh
I’m Lindsey Walsh, the incoming School Counselor and Deputy Head of Boarding. I am an experienced counselor and Boarding practitioner with nearly seven years of experience in boarding. I specialize in creating a home life atmosphere in all boarding houses I work in, and I strongly believe in the principles of positive education and solutions-focused practice.

I work in Berlin, Germany, providing socio-emotional support and academic mentoring to MYP and IB students aged 14 – 19. I am also a Cross Country and Basketball Coach. Before that, I worked at Letovo School in Moscow, providing pastoral and well-being training to the boarding staff and serving on the well-being committee. Before that, I was a House Parent in South Africa. I also have experience as a psychiatric support volunteer at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital.

Yuan Ling
Hello! My name is Yuan Ling. I was born and raised in China. I graduated with a master degree of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages in Northeastern University. Before I devoted myself to education world，I was working for Japan Broadcasting Corporation. My first IB job was a School Supported Self-Taught Japanese A Literature supervisor and Extended Essay supervisor. A China-certified educator, I have experience of teaching IB MYP&DP Chinese in international schools.

Jamel Bouzina
Hello, my name is Mr. Bouzina and I am excited to join the UISZC team. I hold a BS Ed in Technology Education and will earn my MS Ed in the same field in December 2022. I started my career in international education after a decade of working in the private sector in Tunisia. My first job in education was working as a grade 1 bilingual (Arabic/English) teaching assistant in Northern Iraq. I spent three years in Cameroon teaching MYP Design to learners with diverse backgrounds. I believe that having a positive rapport with students is essential to creating a safe learning environment. I speak Arabic, French, English, and Berber languages from North Africa. I am looking forward to learning Chinese.

I have lived in China for the past eight years, pursuing my Masters and recently got my doctorate in Educational Economics and Management at the Nanjing Agricultural University in Nanjing, China. I also have a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Nairobi in Kenya and in the process of being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) in Kenya. I am a published author with my works in peer-reviewed Education Journals.

Rasheed Ogundare
I am Rasheed Ogundare, born and raised in Nigeria. I have lived in China for almost three years while I recently completed my Ph.D. in Physics at Soochow University. I had both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics from the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta and the University of Lagos, respectively in Nigeria. While a student, I served as the Director of Studies as well as the Librarian of my Department. After graduating from the University, I served as a graduate assistant during the mandatory service year in my country at the Department of Mathematics, Imo State University, Nigeria.

I graduated from Hongik University with a Bachelor of Arts in Korean Language Education. Later I earned my master’s in Korean language education as a foreign language from Korea University. I taught Korean as a foreign language to college students at various universities. I also have experience as a Korean teacher at an international school in Korea and taught mother tongue Korean and Korean as an additional language to K-12 students for over a decade.

Yolanda Yan
Nǐ Hǎo. I’m Yolanda Yan. You can call me Yo Yo just as my friends and students usually do. I’m the Chinese Culture Coordinator at UISZ. I also teach different curriculums and subjects here, including IBDP and MYP Chinese Language and Literature, MYP Chinese Acquisition, and HKDSE Chinese Language. I’m the EE and PP supervisors at UISZ as well.

I’ve been obsessed by Chinese language and culture, cultural exchanges and intercultural relationships for many years. I have a Bachelor degree in Chinese Language and Literature, and a Master degree in Comparative Literature and World Literature. I’m a life-long learner and dedicated teacher with many years’ international teaching experiences. For instance, teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture at the Confucius Institute of Prince of Songkhla University（Thailand), as well as teaching IGCSE Chinese at an international school in Thailand. I enjoy reading, writing, traveling and making crafts in my spare time. I find many joys to connect these hobbies together. For example, I wrote thesis which inquires the cultural relationship based on my field trips overseas, and taught people to make crafts when traveling. I’ve been teaching Chinese knots to different people during volunteering abroad since 2015. I ever traveled to Nepal and Thailand to be a volunteer. I love to explore the local culture and make friends with local people when I travel to another places. These experiences inspire me to be an International educator finally.

Ivy Liu
My name is Ivy Liu, I got my master’s degree in chemical engineering and teaching certificate in Guangzhou University. I have 14 years of experience in teaching MYP Science and DP Chemistry in UISZ. With rich experience in e-Assessment, personal project, internal and extended essay of IB program, I have ability to make profound contributions both in and out of the classroom. As a service as action coordinator, I have taken on the responsibilities of the role with supporting students to build authentic connections between what they learn in the classroom and what they encounter in the community. I am a dedicated and hard-working individual, with a passion for learning and facilitating the learning of others. And This is my first year as a teacher teaching DP Chemistry and HKDSE Chemistry. As a teacher, I can offer students much as well, in terms of academic knowledge, life experience and passion.

Mihaela Priceputu
I’m Mihaela and for the last 15 years, I’ve been determined to support children who need to improve their English skills. I got my bachelor’s degree in 2003 and since then I’ve been working with students of all ages and abilities to boost their communication and understanding abilities, but also to support them in adjusting to a new international English-speaking environment.

Together with my family, I started my teaching journey in China in 2016. As language is part of everyday life, being able to express thoughts, fresh ideas, plans, different perspectives and share a glimpse of your individuality at the same time, is as essential as sharing a smile when you first meet someone.

Justin Ascott
Hello, I am Justin – a specialist film educator and professional filmmaker with over 14 years full-time teaching experience. I hold an MSc in Digital Television Management and Production from University of Brighton (UK), a BA (honours) in Film Production from Saint Martins School of Art (UK) and a PG Certificate in teaching Arts from the London Institute. I currently teach IB DP Film and MYP Media Arts- and more recently DP Theory of Knowledge (TOK). I previously lectured at several UK and international specialist arts universities in the USA, Mexico and UK – for a period of 10 years. Prior to entering the teaching profession, I worked for a period of sixteen years, internationally as a professional advertising and corporate film director.

Dina Tagaeva
Dina is a biology & chemistry teacher. She has been teaching science both in national and international settings for almost 10 years. She graduated from Ege University in Turkey where she received her bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering. She then completed a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with concentration in science from North American University. She has experience in teaching IGCSE/A-Level Biology as well as NGSS and AP Biology courses. Her major objective is to motivate and create mindful learners, who always see possibilities of learning from both class and community environment. In her free time, she enjoys playing table tennis and drawing with her daughter.

I was born in Fresno, California. When I was 14 years old, my family moved to Saudi Arabia. It was at the international school in Riyadh where I discovered the fun and excitement of traveling and making friends of different nationalities and cultures. After attending boarding school in Switzerland, I headed back to the United States until I finished BA in International Relations/Middle Eastern Studies from University of California, San Diego. I spent time after university teaching TEFL until I decided to join Peace Corps where I worked in international education development in South Africa.

As a volunteer, I learned to embrace the magic of living in Africa and the joys of working with children. In 2009, I decided to accept a job offer to teach English in Tunisia where I rekindled my interest in studying French and the food of the Middle East and North Africa. While living and working in Tunisia, I earned my teaching certificate and master’s degree in international education from The College of New Jersey. My 10 years as an international school educator has taken my family to Northern Iraq, the USA, Cameroon, and now China. As an educator, I feel my greatest strength is to facilitate the process of student self-discovery and global connections through the Units of Inquiry.

Joris Liger
I am Joris Liger, and I come from a southern French town called Avignon. This is my first year living and teaching in China and I am very excited to start this new adventure.

I graduated from the University of Avignon with a master’s degree in French Education. During my studies, I had the chance to spend a year abroad in England at the University of Kent. It was a great experience and the starting point of a long journey all around the world. I have taught French in a primary school in the United States and last year I was working in a university in Hong Kong.

Alex Marinescu
After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, I have been an educator for 15 years in various locations and contexts including Europe, the Middle East and now here in China where I have lived for the past seven years.

In addition to teaching, I also have extensive experience in curriculum development. For the past five years, I have been leading PE Departments in creating curricula with the associated documents and resources.

I have also been a professional football (soccer) referee for more than 18 years with more than 1000 games refereed national and international.

Anil Goswami
Anil Kumar Goswami is from India and he holds a specialized degree in painting. He is a qualified primary and secondary visual arts facilitator, with a broad range of experience in art education. Using aesthetics, technology integrations, critical analysis, and production experiences, he offers students opportunities to reach their full artistic potential through creative expression, cognitive strategies, and solutions. Currently, this is his third year at UISZ and he teaches the visual arts curriculum to PYP, MYP, and DP students. He works with students of varying ages and skill levels. In school, he enjoys creativity with original ideas and innovative solutions.

Paul Brandt
I am Pauli, the Special Education Needs coordinator. This is my first year at UISZ, and my first time living overseas. This is my sixth year of teaching special education, and I have worked with adults who have disabilities for several years on top of that. I have two undergraduate degrees, one in History and Political Science, the other in Forestry, and a master’s in special education with concentration in autism-spectrum disorder. I am currently working on a second master’s in literature and composition.

I have lived in multiple US states, though Colorado and Minnesota are home. I love skiing, kayaking & canoeing, running, mountain climbing, coffee, and I am an avid reader. I’m also trying to teach myself Mandarin.
