Paul Brant is the Special Education Needs Coordinator and the English as a Second Language (ESOL) Coordinator at UISZ. With a rich background in education and a passion for helping students succeed, Polly brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our international school community.

Diverse Experience, Global Perspective

Polly’s journey as an educator has taken him across the globe, working with students from a myriad of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Before joining UISZ, he worked with students hailing from Somalia, Latin America, China, and Asian American communities. This global perspective has equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that students from diverse backgrounds encounter when acquiring English as an additional language.

Assessing Language Proficiency

One of Polly’s essential roles at UISZ is assessing the English language proficiency of our students. Within the classroom, he employs a combination of formative and summative assessments to gauge their language skills. In addition to these classroom assessments, Polly has introduced standardized testing, such as the WIDA test, to provide specific insights into students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. This data-driven approach allows us to tailor interventions for each student, ensuring they receive the targeted support they need to thrive in the English-speaking academic environment.

Collaboration is at the heart of Polly’s work. He meets regularly with teachers and staff to address concerns about students’ language development. These collaborative efforts extend across all educational levels, from the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to the Diploma Programme (DP). This teamwork ensures that every student’s unique needs are met and that they have access to the necessary resources for success.
