Early Years

Early Years Philosophy

At UISG we believe that early childhood development is the foundation of all learning. In support of this, we create learning environments that generate wonder, creativity, curiosity and engagement for all children.

We embrace inquiry through play as the child’s primary expression of their social-emotional, linguistic, cognitive and physical development. Additionally, we respect the UNIQUE LEARNING STYLES, CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS, INTERESTS and IDENTITIES of our youngest learners and aim to create a WARM AND INCLUSIVE FAMILY ATMOSPHERE where all members feel inspired to work together in a genuine partnership in education.

Areas of Learning

Social Emotional

At UISG we strive to develop caring and balanced children who learn to name their feelings, build meaningful friendships, and develop their resilience.

Language

Through the PYP framework we develop strong communication skills in both English and mother tongue languages.

Cognitive

Using inquiry, children build knowledge in mathematics, problem solving, and thinking skills.

Physical

Through physical education, our swimming program, and outdoor play children at UISG show their courage and grow into balanced individuals.

A Day in the Early Years

Using the Primary Years Program guidance, children have long blocks of exploration and play time to dig deep into inquiry. To support balance and whole-child learning, early years classes participate in a wide variety of specialist and homeroom learning.

Learning Environment

Our Early Years learning spaces are designed to promote play, inquiry and exploration to help our young learners reach their full potential. Our early years teachers use the learning environment to provide students intentional opportunities to discover and learn about their world through play and exploration in a safe and nurturing community where they feel safe, happy, and valued. Our young learners are encouraged every day to take risks and be creative as they participate in the co-construction of learning with their teachers and peers.
