For our first Y8 design unit, students are learning to design play products which improve quality of life for a chosen target audience. To design successful play products students will be learning the importance of primary research and analysis of existing products.
At the start of the unit, students have the chance to look at and play with a variety of products to better think about, discuss and answer key questions:
DESIGN
Experiencing existing play products allows for a more meaningful discussion and analysis. Students are practicing SWOT analysis which later helps them produce original ideas based on their understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the designs already on the market.
Students are also learning to plan their research and build effective surveys which allow them to collect meaningful data. Here is an example of a Design for Play SURVEY.
