Last Thursday 6 June, the final DP Music Recital of the 2023-2024 academic year took place in the Admin Hall. Falling during the Year 10 DP Transition Week, it was the perfect opportunity for the Class of 2026 to attend a concert and be represented on stage by their Year 10 classmates who have shown interest in joining the DP Music programme next year.
As our three pianists from the DP Music Class of 2024 have graduated, our single Year 11 violinist remained for this final recital; however, with support from two Year 10 performers, a full recital programme was presented.
Two solo violin pieces, both traditional but from either side of the Atlantic Ocean: ‘Ragtime Annie’ (USA) and ‘The Laird of Drumblair’s Strathspey’ (Scotland), were interspersed between two contrasting pieces for different instruments.
After the first solo violin piece, the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla was represented by his ‘Libertango’, arranged for viola and bass guitar.
Contrasting with the second solo violin piece, the second and third movements of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 “Pathetique” were performed.
Our student musicians were supported by a dedicated audience, including the incoming DP students from the Class of 2026, the Class of 2025 classmates from the Group 6 Arts (Theatre and Visual Arts), teachers and leadership from across UISG.
