The UISG String Quintet (UISG SQ) was invited to represent the school at ‘The Second Annual Intercultural Day: Guangzhou Embraces Diversity in the Year of the Dragon’, a public event held at Wenlifang Square on Ersha Island.
The group had a 10-minute performance slot on the indoor stage in the basement concert hall, playing two pieces: ‘Libertango’ by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, and the famous Chinese folk song from Jiāngnán 江南 ‘Mò Lì Huā’ 茉莉花 ‘Jasmine Flower’.
INTERCULTURAL DAY “
The UISG SQ is made up one Year 7 and four Year 9 members of the UISG Orchestra and Secondary Chamber Orchestra. We realized at the concert that we certainly “embraced diversity” on this Intercultural Day event as, along with Mr M, we represented China Hong Kong, USA, the Philippines, South Korea, India and New Zealand, while playing Argentine and Chinese music!
Congratulations to the UISG SQ who were able to step in at short notice and do UISG proud. They also exhibited IB creative thinking skills when faced with the challenge of no music stands being provided, spotting some art easels and making them fit for purpose.
