The historic walls of the Art Institute of the Orient (AIO), Shamian Island, Guangzhou have come alive with vibrant creativity as it plays host to the extended exhibition by the exceptional Year 12 DP Visual Arts students from Utahloy International School Guangzhou (UISG). This is the second showcase after a successful first showcase on the UISG campus in the Baiyun district.
The exhibition, open for public viewing, unveils a captivating display of artistic prowess and imagination of 6 (six) students who are graduating from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). The exhibiting visual artists/students are Emily Chen, Lila Pelletier, Melody Peng, Naomi Rojano Ruiz, Zhen Torreda Li, and Queena Wang. With the umbrella title of ‘4 am Nirvana’, you will be able to observe a wide range of artistic exploration, which hopefully could transcend the viewers’ aesthetic experience. The student’s diverse body of work, including paintings, video art, illustrations, and mixed media installations, reflects a deep exploration of personal and societal themes. This exhibition might consist of beautiful physical objects, but their actual power is more conceptual. They will stay in our minds as concepts, ideas, and memory.
Visitors are treated to a visual journey that seamlessly intertwines traditional techniques with contemporary expressions, revealing the student’s unique artistic voice. From the aesthetic experience of this art visit, we hope viewers can bring home some personal and fresh new perspectives to ponder. This remarkable showcase not only celebrates the talent of an emerging artist but also highlights the importance of nurturing the arts within the local community.
The exhibition is now open for the public to visit from March 30 – April 14, 2024, from 10 am to 5 pm. You are welcome to extend this invitation to friends, relatives, and colleagues. A visit booking is needed through the AIO WeChat account.
