Our visit to the Neurobiology Department at Shenzhen Bay Lab proved to be a fascinating journey into the realm of gene therapy and advanced research techniques. Students were introduced to the revolutionary field of gene therapy, exploring how genetic material can be harnessed to treat neurological disorders and diseases. Through hands-on sessions, students had the opportunity to work with mice brain samples, gaining practical insights into neurobiological research methodologies. Our exploration of the department also included a tour of cutting-edge facilities, such as:
- Confocal Microscopy: Visualizing biological structures at high resolution.
- Fluorescence Microscopy: Studying cellular processes with fluorescent labeling.
- Phase Contrast Microscopy: Observing live cells without staining.
- FTIR and UV-Vis Spectroscopy: Analyzing molecular composition and interactions.
- AFM and DLS: Investigating surface properties and particle sizes.
- HPLC and GC: Separating and analyzing complex mixtures.
The exposure to a wide array of advanced equipment and techniques at Shenzhen Bay Lab not only deepened students’ understanding of neurobiology but also sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific exploration. By engaging with sophisticated tools like confocal microscopy and spectroscopy, students gained valuable insights into the intricate workings of the brain and molecular processes.
We are grateful to Shenzhen Bay Laboratory for hosting our students and enhancing their experience in the field of science.
