Last week, our Grade 5 students showcased the remarkable culmination of their PYP journey through their Exhibition presentations to the UISG Community. Guided by the central idea that taking action can lead to significant change, students embarked on a personal inquiry cycle, researching diverse and meaningful topics—from animal testing and Korean history to global warming and food additives. Their dedication was evident in every presentation.
What impressed us most was their confident command of each subject, speaking eloquently about their findings and proposed actions with genuine passion.
The presentations opened with a beautifully composed and performed song that elegantly summarized their PYP learning journey, setting a powerful tone for what followed.

Throughout their inquiry, students demonstrated sophisticated use of ATL Skills. They critically evaluated both primary sources—such as interviews with space professors and doctors to firsthand accounts from community members—and secondary sources, including articles, documentaries, and books. Students honed their communication skills by conducting structured interviews, both face-to-face and via video call, with experts in their fields, asking probing questions that deepened their understanding and challenged their initial assumptions. Self-management was evident as students overcame challenges to organize their research timelines, track their sources, and reflect regularly on their learning progress through process journals. Notably, several students utilised their mother tongue languages to access research inaccessible in English, enriching their investigations with nuanced cultural perspectives. This multilingual approach not only deepens their inquiry but also enables them to share their learning authentically with diverse audiences during presentations.

Beyond research and presentation skills, these students demonstrated the true spirit of the IB learner profile by taking meaningful action on their chosen issues.Art became a powerful vehicle for representing their key understandings and provoking thought. Students created 3D sculptures, infographics, paintings, and symbolic artwork that transformed complex concepts into compelling representations. These creative works served not merely as decoration but as tools for reflection—helping students clarify their own thinking while inviting community members to experience their inquiries viscerally and wonder alongside them.
