September 11, 2026: An Exciting Week Ahead: Hong Kong University, Literacy Magic, & Dot Day
Dear UISG Community,
Thank you to those UPTA parents who joined us Tuesday for the Strategic Planning Action Feedback Session as we gathered your ideas to continue UISG’s journey as a school of excellence. What a full and vibrant week we have had; activities, ECAs, and a busy campus filled with energy!
I am genuinely excited to join our Grade 10 & 11 students next Monday as we travel to Hong Kong to visit Hong Kong University (HKU) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), where we will enjoy personalized tours, meet members of the university community, and learn more about future opportunities for our students.
Next week, we are also thrilled to welcome a very special guest to our Primary: Matt Glover, an internationally known literacy consultant, writer, and author who empowers young readers and nurtures writers while supporting early reading, language, composition, and children’s intellectual development. He will be working with our primary students and staff all week, and we look forward to the valuable learning and inspiration he will bring to our community.
And don’t forget our celebration of Dot Day taking place next Tuesday, September 15th, a wonderful chance to spark creativity and connection across our school.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Daniel Mullen

Wolves Athletics Weekly Round-Up

The Wolves Athletics season is officially underway, and our student-athletes have wasted no time making an impact. From impressive performances on the cross-country course to a strong start on the volleyball court, it has been an exciting opening week of competition.
Strong Start on the Trails
On Tuesday, 8th September, our cross-country teams took on AISG in a friendly race filled with energy and stamina despite the heat. Once again, our runners showed their strength and determination right from the start, keeping a strong pace and supporting each other throughout the course.

Congratulations to our MS Girls, who dominated the top spots with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions! Our MS Boys also put in an excellent performance with 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th.
In the HS category (5k distance), the results were also impressive, with three runners finishing within the first 10: HS Boys placed 4th, 7th, and 10th, HS Girls earned 5th, 8th, and 10th.
What a fantastic achievement and start of the running season —well done to everyone who competed, cheered, and made the day so successful!
Strong Start on the Court
On Thursday, 10 September, UISG hosted the Canadian International School of Guangzhou in the opening round of GISSA Gold Division Volleyball. The boys opened their season with an impressive 3-0 victory, while the girls battled hard against a strong CISGZ team but fell 0-3.
A great start to the season. We look forward to following our Wolves throughout the season.

Primary Assemblies:Learning, Leadership, and Kindness

This week’s UISG Primary Assemblies brought our Early Years and Primary students together to share and celebrate their learning, from Grade 2’s exploration of world cultures to Grade 3’s hands-on body systems study which included dissecting a real cow’s heart with our Secondary students and teachers! Our newly elected House Captains and Primary Student Council shared their goals, and we closed with The Big Red Umbrella by Amy June Bates which is a story about kindness and community that reflects the values we live every day at UISG.

All About the MYP:A Home-School Partnership

On Tuesday parents joined the “All About the MYP” session, which provided an overview of the Middle Years Programme’s core elements. We reflected upon how our MYP children continue to exhibit the Learner Profile attributes, which serve as the foundation of internationally-minded learning. Approaches to Teaching were examined, including inquiry-based learning, key concepts, and global contexts, alongside Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills such as thinking, communication, and self-management.

The session also covered where these elements can be located on ManageBac, the school’s home-school connection platform. Unit descriptions, ATL skill development, homework tasks, and assessments are all accessible through the platform. Regular engagement with ManageBac supports ongoing communication between school and home.
We look forward to welcoming our Grade 10 parents to the next parent session on September 22, where we will dive into the culmination of the MYP and find out “All About the eAssessment.”
University Visit : Pepperdine University

On Tuesday, September 8th, we welcomed Mason Bayman, a university representative from Pepperdine University, who visited UISG during breaktime to speak with interested Secondary students. Pepperdine is a private university located in Malibu, California, known for its stunning oceanfront campus, strong programs in business, communication, and international studies, and its emphasis on values-based, globally-minded education.

Students had the chance to ask questions directly and learn more about admissions, campus life, and what makes Pepperdine distinctive as they consider their college options.
Visits like this are a valuable part of our college counselling program — they give students the opportunity to engage directly with university representatives, ask questions in a low-pressure setting, and build a clearer picture of the schools on their radar. We look forward to hosting more universities throughout the year!
