October 23, 2026: MYP Parent Sessions, Championships & Halloween Fun Ahead
Dear UISG Community,
Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our UN Day Celebration today, it was a wonderful way to celebrate the diversity of our community, which truly adds so much value to our international school culture! Looking ahead, we have an action-packed final week of October, with many opportunities for our parents to join in the learning process.
On Monday morning, we have two opportunities for parents to learn more about our MYP program. The first, Assessment in the MYP, begins at 8:30 in the Admin Hall, followed by EAL in the MYP at 9:45. Both are great opportunities to learn more about the Middle Years Programme and how we prepare our students for continued success. Throughout the week, cheer on our UISG Wolves at the volleyball, swim, and soccer championships, and enjoy our theater students showcasing their talents in the atrium.
Friday is dress-up day, and don’t forget the boarding BBQ Halloween party on Thursday evening! It’s a busy and fun-filled week, with plenty of ways for our students to celebrate their learning and engage in the community.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Daniel Mullen

UISG Shines at ISMAG Piano Competition

This Wednesday, a talented group of five UISG students—three from Primary and two from Secondary—represented our school at the ISMAG Piano Competition, held at the Canadian International School. We are thrilled to announce that our Secondary pianists delivered outstanding performances, earning 2nd and 3rd place in the Secondary group! Their dedication, musicianship, and poise on stage were a true reflection of UISG’s commitment to excellence in the arts. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the parents who accompanied and supported their children throughout this journey—your encouragement made all the difference. Congratulations to all five students for their hard work and for making us proud on this prestigious platform. We can’t wait to see where their musical journeys take them next!

Parents and Students
Shape the New Uniform
Planning for New Uniforms

This week, parents and students from PYP and MYP took part in focus groups led by fashion designer, AIO teacher and mum Rema, to share their thoughts on our new student uniforms — and their feedback was invaluable. From fabric feel to fit and functionality, everyone was engaged, honest, and full of ideas.

Clear themes emerged: comfort and quality come first. Parents highlighted durability and asked us to explore fast-drying fabrics for daily washing, while students asked for cooler and lighter fabrics. All feedback gathered will directly inform the next design stage as we work towards a uniform that works for everyone — and one that will proudly carry us into our upcoming 30th anniversary year.

A standout moment came late in the day in the PYP session, when Omar in G3 asked for UISG pyjamas, socks, and a bowtie — because he wants a uniform that helps him “be ready for learning.” We couldn’t agree more.
Thank you to all the parents and students who participated. Your voices are shaping the future of our uniform — watch this space!
OBIDO Book Fair
Book Sale

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the OBIDO Book Fair in the library this week! It was lovely to see students browsing the books, sharing favourites with friends and choosing something new to take home.

A special thank you to the parents who came along during Tuesday’s conferences. We appreciated you making time to visit, explore the books with your children and support their reading interests.
Thanks also to the OBIDO team for bringing the books to our school. We hope everyone who found a new read enjoys it—and we’d love to hear about any favourites next time you’re in the library!

Korean Language Workshop & Sogang University Visit
This Thursday, we hosted two special events for our Korean parents.
Ahead of the university admissions session, our Secondary Korean Language Teacher, Mr. DaeWoo Lee, delivered a passionate presentation covering an overview of the IB framework, guidance on MYP and DP Korean Language courses, and the importance of maintaining the mother tongue. His session reinforced our school’s strong commitment to mother-tongue development and the academic success of our Korean students.

Following this, we welcomed admissions officers from Sogang University — the top university in Seoul for graduate employment and a partner of SK Hynix in the semiconductor field — to our campus to hold an admissions information session for our parents and students. This marked their second visit to our school. We are proud to be the only international school in Guangzhou to host an on-campus admissions session with Korean universities. This unique opportunity gave our families direct access to top-tier university admissions information — right here on our campus.

We hope these sessions provided valuable and meaningful information for our Korean families. Thank you to all the parents who joined us!
Notre Dame Visit Brings
U.S. Admissions Insights to UISG Juniors

Last week, MYP teacher Mr. Faiola traveled to South Bend, Indiana, to attend the annual board meeting at the University of Notre Dame, where he serves on the Alumni Board of Directors as Regional Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During his trip, Mr. Faiola met directly with the International Admissions team. He looks forward to sharing valuable insights and admissions advice with our UISG juniors as they begin exploring university options in the United States.
